Lyon, France 1895 Lumière brothers
"Repas de bébé" (Baby’s First Meal) is a 1895 French short silent film by Louis Lumière, featuring Auguste Lumière and Marguerite feeding their infant daughter, Andrée Lumière. It is one of the earliest recordings by the Lumière brothers, catalogued as Vue no. 88, with an unedited, single take lasting less than a minute. The film was part of the Lumière Cinématographe's first commercial presentation on December 28, 1895, at the Grand Café in Paris. Shot in 35 mm with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1, it was the seventh of ten films in the program. Louis Lumière used the newly-invented Cinématographe, a versatile device serving as a camera, film projector, and developer.

Promotional newsreels from Chevrolet were short films or news segments produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors in the mid-20th century. These newsreels were typically created to promote Chevrolet products and showcase the company's innovations and achievements.
During this time, newsreels were a common form of short film content shown in cinemas before the main feature film. Chevrolet used this format to reach a wide audience and highlight their latest models, technologies, and corporate initiatives. The newsreels often featured a mix of product demonstrations, factory tours, and corporate messages to create a positive image of the Chevrolet brand.
These promotional newsreels served as both advertising and informational content, and they were a way for Chevrolet to engage with the public and keep consumers informed about their latest developments in the automotive industry. Over time, as the medium of television became more prominent, newsreels in cinemas declined, and Chevrolet, like other companies, shifted its promotional efforts to television and other forms of advertising.

Egypt 1897 in 4k, colorized. Lumière brothers footage.
In 1897, Alexandre Promio captured this footage of a camel caravan passing before the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt, with the majestic Great Pyramid of Giza as a breathtaking backdrop.
The footage was later presented on April 25th of the same year in Lyon, France, under the title "Égypte: les pyramides et le Sphinx."
Through recent advancements in AI technology, the footage has been carefully restored. Its frame rate has been improved, its resolution enhanced to 4k, and it has been colorized, providing a clearer and more vivid portrayal of this historical scene.
Alexandre Promio (1868-1926) was a French cinematographer and pioneer in the field of early cinema. He is best known for his work with the Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis Lumière, who were among the inventors of the motion picture camera and the pioneers of the cinema industry.
Promio worked closely with the Lumière brothers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was responsible for filming and documenting many of their early films, including some of the first-ever motion pictures that were shown to audiences around the world. Promio played a significant role in the development and popularization of cinema as a form of entertainment and art.
Some of his notable contributions include capturing scenes of everyday life, such as workers leaving the Lumière factory, street scenes, and other documentary-style films. These early films were instrumental in showcasing the possibilities of the new medium and laying the foundation for the future of filmmaking.
While Alexandre Promio may not be as widely recognized as the Lumière brothers themselves, his work as a cinematographer was essential in the early history of cinema. His contributions helped shape the language and artistry of filmmaking in the beginning.
