Abusive Relationships in Healthcare and Solutions to the System
In this episode I talk about the abusive relationship that is built in hospitals. We just need to say it, that's what it is. It's unhealthy and it's time we take charge of change.
No matter your status, degree, or ability, you can do something to contribute to change in the health. You don't have to give time, money, and skills. Find someone who is fighting to make change in the things you are passionate about and support them in whatever way you can. That looks different for everyone. Be a part of the change. You are not alone!

I Don't Want to be a "Strong Nurse" Anymore
Some nurses will understand when I say, I don't want to be a "strong nurse" anymore, translation, I've overloaded you but you got this.... why are we in a system that thinks this is encouraging? Why are we in a system that we don't support or use ourselves? Where is the breakdown happening? Why is it now, well this is not as bad as the last place versus this is a good place to work?

Trauma, Burnout, and A Cup of Coffee
I want to add a warning, I go into some explicit details of some of my traumatic experiences in healthcare.
Let's talk about the trauma bonding amongst healthcare workers. Let's talk about the trauma we experience every day. Then let's talk about how to deal with that.
I also want to address the behaviors I see amongst healthcare professionals. It's time to be a united front. It's not our patients, it's not just the system, it's us. We can choose to be a part of the problem, or the solution. What are you going to do?

Why the Underdog RN? Burnout and more....
I am in the same struggle as a lot of nurses I know. Whether they burned out with covid, ratios, staffing, a lack of resources, or all the cookie cutter nonsense from leadership, a lot of us are on the same boat. It's time to change that. In this episode I explain why I went with underdog RN and what I do about my burnout.

Transparency in Medical Billing Part Two: Legislative Follow Up
I reached out to representatives and here was the follow up. Goals to accomplish are to get legislation at a state or federal level that requires transparency in healthcare billing and decreasing how much insurance dictates in healthcare. I feel as though the ladder is going to much more complex, complicated, and frankly it has a multi-billion dollar lobbying party behind it. However, this is what's best for us, the people. We need to start somewhere and exposing what is happening in healthcare billing practices is the first step.
Please share your stories below in the comments or you can email me at Contact@underdogrn.com. I want to take this to our legislators and fight for change!

Transparency in Medical Billing Part One: The Back Story
We NEED transparency in our medical billing practices! We have a complex, convoluted mess right now.
Hear my story of how my son's clubfoot boots are billed at about $1600 from the DME company, but when I go to the manufacturer website I can buy direct at $250. How did we get to over a 500% mark up?! The DME companies response, "contracts and coding."
Where else do you go that you don't know the price up front?
Where else to do you purchase services and get a dozen bills over the next 3 months from half a dozen different companies?
It's absolutely ridiculous and it's high time we do something about it.

Midlevel Practitioners & Attitudes in Healthcare
Is there really a difference between a NP (Nurse Practitioner) and a PA (Physician Assistant)? Does having either one have an impact on your care?
The relationships between healthcare practitioners and people seeking medical care is tense. Healthcare is unlike any other field because it's very personal and most of the time you or someone you love is ill. This results in fear, anxiety, or a combination of both. It's time we start rebuilding the relationships inside the system and with those utilizing it. It's time that we all start giving each other some grace.
