It’s not the fringe minority who Justin Trudeau is having to run away from anymore, it’s now the angry pro-Palestine protesters. Everywhere he or his Liberal cabinet go, masked pro-Hamas activists waving foreign flags are there to greet them. On Monday, while snowboarding in Thunder Bay, Trudeau was accosted by protesters on the ski hill, demanding that he do more for a foreign cause that has nothing to do with Canada. Earlier in the week, his event with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had to be cancelled because a mob of protesters caused such a scene that the reception was deemed unsafe. The day after at a restaurant in Toronto, a fundraiser for Chrystia Freeland was swarmed by the same mob of angry protesters. You reap what you sow. Conservative candidate Jamil Jivani won the Durham byelection yesterday, meaning he'll be headed to Parliament in the seat previously held by Erin O'Toole. While the Conservative win is not surprising, the margin of victory was decisive and spells bad news for the Liberals heading into the 2025 election, True North's Andrew Lawton says. Also, the Liberals have extended one of their media bailout programs until 2027 – after the next election. Canadians are against the carbon tax, but the government is doubling down on it. Viral videos showing thousands of international students and temporary foreign workers lining up for minimum wage jobs across the country are spreading on social media as the videos expose in real time one of the most often repeated Trudeau government talking points about immigration – that Canada needs to fill a labour shortage. The reality is that Trudeau’s mass immigration experiment has failed. Canadians are getting poorer year-after-year and wages are stagnating. Homes aren’t being built and somehow, despite the influx of millions of workers, Canada still has a construction labour shortage. Real per capita GDP is decreasing, young Canadians are being squeezed by the massive levels of immigration and the only people who seem to be winning out of all of this are large corporations who have an endless supply of temporary workers and international students ready to take on minimum wage jobs. Justin Trudeau's long-promised Online Harms Act, Bill C-63, has been tabled. The bill reintroduces a section of the Canadian Human Rights Act prohibiting online "hate speech," which the bill defines as speech "likely to foment detestation or vilification of an individual or group of individuals on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination." Trudeau and his justice minister claim the bill will comply with the Charter, but their record on civil liberties and free speech should concern all Canadians. Eddie Cornell, a Canadian veteran who had his bank account frozen for participating in the Freedom Convoy successfully sued the federal government resulting in a judge finding the invocation of the Emergencies Act to be unconstitutional. The Trudeau government’s new online hate speech legislation spells the end for free speech in Canada as we know it. You could find yourself being given a life sentence in prison for having the wrong opinions online. You could be ordered to wear a tracking device by the Attorney General and forced to stay in your house if someone fears you might commit a hate offence. This is beyond absurd. This is downright frightening. These new online hate speech laws, if passed, will almost certainly be interpreted through the lens of a radical leftist ideology and be used to silence criticism of the government, intimidate people into submission and protecting the interests of special interest groups.
