A carbon tax revolt is underway
Seven of ten provincial premiers have called on the federal government to scrap its planned carbon tax increase, although Justin Trudeau continues to double down. With Trudeau's government paying no heed to calls from his provincial counterparts and the cash-strapped Canadians they represent, Trudeau is making it clear it's his way or the highway. True North's Andrew Lawton discusses Colin Craig of SecondStreet.org.
Also, True North's Rachel Emmanuel was barred from reporting on Trudeau's visit to Calgary yesterday and threatened with arrest if she even stood inside the building hosting the prime minister's press conference. She joins to explain what went down.
Plus, from the ongoing trial of Tamara Lich and Chris Barber to the Coutts 4, concerns about politicized prosecutions are abound in the justice system. Former Encana CEO Gwyn Morgan delved into the phenomenon in an essay for C2C journal, on "the worrisome wave of politicized prosecutions." He joins Andrew to discuss.

NDP leadership candidates already taking aim at Smith
Today on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel is joined by Rachel Notley’s former executive director of communication and planning, Cheryl Oates, to discuss the Alberta NDP leadership race.
Oates says Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is an “expert communicator” and the NDP need someone who can compete with her.
The two also discuss Naheed Nenshi, the former Calgary mayor who joined the race this week, and is already attacking Smith.
Also on the show, at least one candidate has promised to scrap the carbon tax, which Oates says the policy is “poison” in Alberta right now.

Do Canadians want Trudeau's censorship bill?
A new poll finds that just under half of Canadians think the federal government's plan to regulate internet speech will make online platforms safer. But a majority agree with the government's bolstering of sentences for hate speech. True North's Andrew Lawton says it's clear from the last few years that many Canadians simply don't support free speech, which may make this catastrophic bill a political win for the Liberals.
Also, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has taken aim at corporate Canada, telling business leaders at a trade board meeting that he won't be beholden to big business and lobbyists and that if they want anything from his government, it has to serve Canadians' interests. Macdonald-Laurier Institute domestic policy director Aaron Wudrick weighs in.
Plus, the federal government is defending its carbon tax and other environmental policies by appealing to the existence of a "climate crisis." But does the evidence support such a claim? Fraser Institute senior fellow Kenneth Green says it doesn't. He joins Andrew to explain.

Canada's immigration system is BROKEN
Canada once had the world’s strongest and most secure immigration system. But everything fell apart after 2015, and by 2023 we saw the largest number of illegal migrants entering our country in the history of Canada.
Most people believe Canada admits 500,000 immigrants annually, but this is only the number of permanent residents. This figure does not include foreign workers, international students and illegal migrants. Under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2023, Canada admitted approximately 2.2 MILLION people into the country. That number could grow EVEN HIGHER in 2024.
On this episode of The Candice Malcolm Show, Candice walks you through the shocking numbers behind Canada’s immigration system, highlights the surge of illegal immigrants and explains how and why everything started falling apart around 2015.

CBC paying out millions in bonuses while laying off staff
Canada's state broadcaster, CBC, was whining about its budget while simultaneously paying out upwards of $15 million in bonuses in 2023, new documents reveal. News like this will make the call to defund CBC a much easier sell for Canadians, True North's Andrew Lawton says. He discusses with Canadian Taxpayers Federation federal director Franco Terrazzano.
Also, despite the RCMP making the explosive claim that drugs distributed through government "safe supply" programs are being diverted and sold by organized crime, British Columbia Premier David Eby says he's yet to review any evidence of diversion.
Plus, Margaret Atwood has weighed in on the Liberal government's online harms bill, calling Bill C-63 "Orwellian." The Liberals are using child protection as a shield for censorship. Andrew discusses with former CRTC vice-chair Peter Menzies.

Canadian farmers are FINALLY RISING UP against the government!
Farmers in Quebec have taken to the streets in protest against rising fuel costs and unrelenting regulations that are punishing farmers. Quebec farmers are set to lose close to 90% of their net income since 2022 as climate policies like carbon taxes and fertilizer emissions reduction targets cripple their margins.
The Trudeau government takes inspiration from failed European Union climate measures that have triggered massive farmer protests across Europe and have been implementing similar policies in Canada. Under the watch of globalists like Trudeau, farmers are the ones to bear the brunt of reducing emissions to reach non-realistic climate goals.
The rallying cry from Europe to Quebec remains the same; No farmers = no food.

Poilievre calls on supporters to protest carbon tax at Liberal MP offices
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called on his supporters to help him put pressure on Liberal and NDP MPs by writing letters to them, phoning their offices, and even organizing protests to oppose the carbon tax and its scheduled April 1 increase. Do you agree with the tactic? True North's Andrew Lawton weighs in with Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims.
Also, CBC didn't have access to the Oscars red carpet but still sent a journalist to cover it – from outside.
Plus, the Liberal government has reversed its announced pause on funding to UNRWA, the United Nations agency whose employees were implicated in Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel. Brian Lee Crowley of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute joins to discuss.

Canadians are sick of Trudeau’s carbon tax
New Leger polling from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation reveals that 69% of Canadians are opposed to the federal carbon tax increase set for April 1, echoing a broader sentiment of dissatisfaction with the current government and its policies. Canadian Taxpayers Federation federal director Franco Terrazzano joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss the mounting concerns and complaints surrounding future carbon tax increases.

Liberals’ new censorship bill is about more than “online harms”
After unveiling a new censorship bill early last week, Liberals were quick to go on the defensive, insisting the proposed Online Harms Act was solely about combatting “online harms,” and not about stifling free speech. Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss the potential consequences of allowing the government to determine what can and cannot be said online.

Liberals’ hate speech bill poses biggest threat to the most vulnerable
In a recent column, University of Saskatchewan law professor Dwight Newman suggested that the Liberals’ proposed Online Harms Act contains amendments which could be used to disproportionately punish marginalized individuals. Newman joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to explain how a bill supposedly designed to protect the most vulnerable could end up harming them the most.

Unhinged pro-Hamas protesters are everywhere
It’s Friday! Sit back, grab a drink and enjoy the latest episode of Off the Record with Candice Malcolm, Andrew Lawton and Rachel Emmanuel!
This week, masked pro-Hamas protesters continued to harass Jewish people, force the cancellation of events and stalk politicians – including Justin Trudeau and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Is the left finally eating its own?
Plus, are serial killers and rapists living better lives than most Canadians? According to Conservative MP Frank Caputo, when he went for a tour of a medium-security prison, killers such as Paul Bernardo and Luka Magnotta had access to a hockey rink and a tennis court.
And are homeless encampments now part of the “fabric” of Canadian cities? According to a city official in London, Ontario, they are here to stay and we need to find ways to support them.
These stories and more on Off the Record!

The authoritarian left is not happy with the CBC
The authoritarian left in Canada are not happy because the CBC in Quebec dared to do something that English CBC would never do.
The CBC told the truth about rapid onset gender dysphoria and the terrible and crippling impact it has on girls and young women who are lured down this path.
Candice Malcolm says a free society should applaud this type of real journalism and reject hysterical voices and activists who simply want to shut down conversation and debate.
It’s Fake News Friday on The Candice Malcolm Show.

Jamil Jivani on byelection win, media bias, and “liberal elites”
Earlier this week, Conservative candidate Jamil Jivani secured a historic byelection win in Durham, garnering over 55% of the vote, marking the Tories’ largest margin of victory in the riding for over 20 years. Conservative Member of Parliament elect Jamil Jivani joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss the landmark achievement, the media response which followed, and his comments on “liberal elites.”

Justin Trudeau HECKLED AGAIN while snowboarding!
It’s not the fringe minority who Justin Trudeau is having to run away from anymore, it’s now the angry pro-Palestine protesters. Everywhere he or his Liberal cabinet go, masked pro-Hamas activists waving foreign flags are there to greet them. On Monday, while snowboarding in Thunder Bay, Trudeau was accosted by protesters on the ski hill, demanding that he do more for a foreign cause that has nothing to do with Canada.
Earlier in the week, his event with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had to be cancelled because a mob of protesters caused such a scene that the reception was deemed unsafe. The day after at a restaurant in Toronto, a fundraiser for Chrystia Freeland was swarmed by the same mob of angry protesters.
You reap what you sow. Trudeau declared in 2015 that Canada has no core identity and that our country is the first “post-national state.” Is it any wonder that people who come to this country no longer respect Canadian values?

Poilievre soaring in polls – so the Liberals are campaigning against Trump
Polls have consistently put the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre in firm majority territory, with some showing the Liberals almost in third place behind the NDP. The Liberals have responded by embracing their favourite pastime – importing American political fights. Justin Trudeau's and the Liberal party's attacks on the Conservatives are increasingly about Donald Trump, True North's Andrew Lawton points out.
Also, the federal government's proposed online hate speech ban is coming under fire for having such an ill-defined test for what constitutes hate speech. Andrew discusses with law professor Bruce Pardy.
Plus, former broadcaster Jamil Jivani has been elected member of Parliament for Durham. He joins the show to discuss his win and his plans when he gets to Ottawa.

Are chemical abortions impacting the water supply?
Today on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel interviews Prolife Alberta executive director Richard Durr about a Calgary abortion clinic that’s offering chemical abortions.
Durr says that unlike surgical abortions, chemical abortions are prescribed without an in-person visit increasing the risk for vulnerable and trafficked women. There’s also increased risks of complications to the mother.
Rachel also wonders about the impact on the water supply.

Liberals not committing to Emergencies Act reforms – just "consultations"
Despite dozens of recommendations from the Public Order Emergencies Commission on reforms to the Emergencies Act, the federal Liberal government is only committing to engaging in further consultations with provinces, Indigenous groups, and other stakeholders, before entertaining changes. True North's Andrew Lawton says that after the Federal Court finding that the government's use of the act was unconstitutional, they want to just shove everything under the rug.
Also, Justin Trudeau's assault on free speech, Bill C-63, opens the door to mass regulation of internet speech under the guise of combatting "online hate." Andrew discusses with Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms president John Carpay.
Plus, while it seems like wokeness is out of control, a new study from the Macdonald-Laurier Institute suggests Canadians aren't actually that woke after all. Author Eric Kaufmann, a professor at the University of Buckingham, joins to explain.

The Canadian Armed Forces is facing a CRISIS | Ret. Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneuve
The Canadian military was once feared by our enemies and respected by our allies. Today, that is no the longer case. The Armed Forces are subjected to a relentless onslaught of DEI and radical progressive ideology enforced on the ranks along with a chronic underfunding that continues unabated. An attrition crisis and a morale crisis are thinning out the officer and leadership class and nobody at the federal level is prepared to make a change.
How did it get so bad? More importantly, how can we turn it around?
Joining Harrison on The Faulkner Show is ret. Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneu

Canadian Police FAILED to protect an event with G7 Leaders
Under the helm of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada is not a serious country. We proved that over the weekend, when the Toronto Police failed to protect a meeting with Trudeau and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as pro-Hamas activists swarmed the Art Gallery of Ontario and police cancelled the event.
Are we witnessing two-tier policing? The police had no problem brutally cracking down on protesters during the Freedom Convoy but seem to turn a blind eye to pro-terror masked activists who intimidate Jewish Canadians, threaten and attack police and even shut down diplomatic meetings.
Candice Malcolm says Trudeau has failed all Canadians, and under his leadership, Canada is barely a country anymore.

Conservative byelection win is bad news for Justin Trudeau
Conservative candidate Jamil Jivani won the Durham byelection yesterday, meaning he'll be headed to Parliament in the seat previously held by Erin O'Toole. While the Conservative win is not surprising, the margin of victory was decisive and spells bad news for the Liberals heading into the 2025 election, True North's Andrew Lawton says.
Also, the Liberals have extended one of their media bailout programs until 2027 – after the next election.
Canadians are against the carbon tax, but the government is doubling down on it. Franco Terrazzano of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation joins to discuss.
Plus, University of Saskatchewan law professor Dwight Newman on how the Liberals' "online harms" bill might actually make things worse for the people it purports to protect.

Mass immigration is DESTROYING Canada's economy
Viral videos showing thousands of international students and temporary foreign workers lining up for minimum wage jobs across the country are spreading on social media as the videos expose in real time one of the most often repeated Trudeau government talking points about immigration – that Canada needs to fill a labour shortage. The reality is that Trudeau’s mass immigration experiment has failed. Canadians are getting poorer year-after-year and wages are stagnating. Homes aren’t being built and somehow, despite the influx of millions of workers, Canada still has a construction labour shortage.
Real per capita GDP is decreasing, young Canadians are being squeezed by the massive levels of immigration and the only people who seem to be winning out of all of this are large corporations who have an endless supply of temporary workers and international students ready to take on minimum wage jobs.

Trudeau's "online harms" bill is an all-out assault on free speech
Justin Trudeau's long-promised Online Harms Act, Bill C-63, has been tabled. The bill reintroduces a section of the Canadian Human Rights Act prohibiting online "hate speech," which the bill defines as speech "likely to foment detestation or vilification of an individual or group of individuals on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination." Trudeau and his justice minister claim the bill will comply with the Charter, but their record on civil liberties and free speech should concern all Canadians. True North's Andrew Lawton weighs in, then discusses with Canadian Constitution Foundation litigation director Christine Van Geyn.
Also, the federal government is still planning on hiking its carbon tax in a few weeks, even though most Canadians are against it. Kris Sims from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation checks in.
