Jewish groups’ condemnation of anti-Muslim violence is hardly reciprocated
A new study from the Aristotle Foundation shows that Jewish organizations in Canada are more likely to condemn attacks on the Muslim community than Muslim organizations are to condemn attacks on Jews. Study author Rahim Mohamed joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss his findings and why they raise concerns about the maintenance of religious plurality in Canada.

Sports gambling ads need to stop
Canadians are being assaulted by sports gambling ads every time they watch a sports game. The problem is particularly bad in Ontario, where the provincial government has licensed over two dozen private online casinos to operate single-game sports betting apps. This has completely ruined the experience for fans who just want to watch a hockey game or a baseball game.
The proliferation of online sports gambling has real world consequences. According to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, over 30% of high school students in Ontario are reporting that they have engaged in online gambling and calls to problem gambling hot lines have increased. In the United States, where the gambling legislation is nearly identical to Ontario, the situation is the same. So why is the government allowing this to happen? Why is the promotion of a self-destructive vice like gambling becoming normalized and seen by minors?

Calgary's mayor wants you to own nothing and be happy
An increasing number of young Canadians can't afford to buy a home, but Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek says not to worry: a lifetime of renting can give "more freedom" and make people feel "liberated," calling home ownership an outdated concept. True North's Andrew Lawton says it's a convenient way to avoid solving the housing crisis, and also markedly similar to the controversial "own nothing and be happy" trope advanced a few years back by a World Economic Forum author.
Also, Andrew shares his full fireside chat with Premier Blaine Higgs about federalism, conservatism, and parental rights, filmed live at the Canada Strong and Free Network's annual conference in Ottawa last week.

Alberta refuses to be bribed by Trudeau
Today on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel speaks with Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services Minister Jason Nixon about the Provincial Priorities Act, which was tabled by the government last week to ensure provincial sign off on federal-municipal deals. Nixon says the province is concerned about federal interference in municipalities, which are the province’s jurisdiction, and this legislation will end that practice. He also says Alberta “won’t be bribed” to sign onto federal deals with their own money.
Nixon also says the province won’t agree to new housing codes to comply with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s green agenda, saying that would increase the cost of construction and housing.
Rachel also asks the minister how funding the federal government has promised to municipalities is causing blanket rezoning in Calgary.

No end in sight for Trudeau’s spending
The federal government unveiled its latest budget yesterday and, surprise surprise, it's full of big spending with no plan to balance the budget. But the Liberals did find room to shovel more money to CBC and over a billion dollars to "combat hate." True North's Andrew Lawton unpacks it with Franco Terrazzano of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation and Catherine Swift of the Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses of Canada.
Plus, Andrew shares his interview with Christine Van Geyn of the Canadian Constitution Foundation from the Canada Strong and Free Network conference about the dismal state of civil liberties in Canada.

Governor General shills for Liberal "online harms" regulations
Canada's Governor General is supposed to be apolitical and above partisanship, but Her Excellency Mary Simon opted to convene a panel about the dangers of "online harms" while the federal government is championing a controversial law that uses such harms as a pretext to regulate internet speech. The panel had no critics of the legislation, but plenty of people championing it. True North's Andrew Lawton weighs in.
Also, it's budget day, so Andrew checks in Canadian Federation of Independent Business vice-president of legislative affairs Ryan Mallough to see how rough a ride Canadians are in for. Plus an interview with former federal finance minister Joe Oliver from last week's Canada Strong and Free Network conference.
Lifelong Liberals are breaking with their party over Justin Trudeau's leadership of it. Andrew checks in with former Liberal member of Parliament Dan McTeague about why that is.

Canada’s Birth Rate is Collapsing
One of the most concerning trends in Canada is our country’s collapsing birth rate. Our fertility rate is well below replacement level and there seems to be no effort from the government to increase the levels. Successive federal governments have instead sought to artificially increase Canada’s population through waves of high levels of immigration into the country.
The result? One concerning sub-trend from this reliance on immigration is that the young male population in Canada is now rapidly exceeding the young female population. This could have disastrous consequences for Canada in the future.
With marriage rates declining and the average age of marriage increasing, family building is taking a significant hit in this country. Further, recent studies indicate that Canadian women are having fewer children than they would want, largely because of financial constraints.
The question remains, why aren’t our politicians addressing this?

Conservative plan could lower immigration levels
According to Conservative critic for immigration and Calgary MP Tom Kmiec, the Conservative party’s plan to tie immigration numbers to available jobs and homes could result in a lower immigration target. The Calgary MP said a Conservative government wouldn’t set an arbitrary number, but rather one that takes into account what the country can sustainably accommodate.
True North’s Andrew Lawton caught up with Kmiec at the Canada Strong and Free Conference in Ottawa to discuss the Conservatives’ plan to address the immigration system.

Is this Canada or India? Exploring Brampton, Ontario
On the latest episode of Ratio'd, Harrison Faulkner goes to Brampton, Ontario to see Canada's mass immigration crisis first hand. Brampton is one of Canada's most infamous ethnic enclaves and has become a symbol of the federal government's years-long commitment to mass immigration.
2021 census data showed that Brampton was over 80% non-white and that the majority of Brampton residents are of Indian origin.

Activists say Trudeau should be spending more on climate change
A report from the “sustainable economy” firm Corporate Knights says Justin Trudeau’s government pledged to spend $48.6 billion on climate change over the last nine years but has ‘only’ spent $34.3 billion, calling for the government to “follow through” on its commitments. True North’s Andrew Lawton says encouraging the government to throw more money at the weather isn’t going to change anything.
Also, the firearms industry group that contracted with the federal government to work with firearms stores on the so-called gun buyback now says the government is in over its head. Wes Winkel, president of the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association, joins the show to discuss.
Plus, a study from the Aristotle Foundation finds that while Jewish groups condemn attacks on Muslims, Muslim groups in Canada don’t tend to reciprocate. Study author Rahim Mohamed explains his findings.

Western provinces are taking a stand for gun owners
Saskatchewan has just expanded its provincial firearms office, putting public safety and protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners front and centre as the federal government continues to curtail lawful gun ownership in this country. Saskatchewan's approach has been celebrated by firearms advocates – Andrew welcomes to the show the province's firearms commissioner, Robert Freberg, and chief firearms officer, Murray Cowan, to explain why.
Also, as federal members of Parliament take a big pay raise, Alberta MLAs have opted to freeze their wages. Andrew discusses with Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims, as well as why CBC is in desperate need of a defunding.

Alberta takes firm stance against Trudeau’s gun grab
Earlier this week, Danielle Smith told reporters that Alberta is “not going to do anything to help” the Trudeau government confiscate legal firearms, celebrating Ottawa’s failure to confiscate a single gun four years after announcing its “buyback” program. Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights CEO Rod Giltaca joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss.

On C2C: Trudeau’s housing advocate cries racism
In a recent essay, C2C Journal senior features editor Peter Shawn Taylor argues that despite claims of racism in Canada’s housing market, credible evidence suggests otherwise, with studies showing significant variations in housing outcomes among racial groups but no evidence of systemic racism. Taylor joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss.

Foreigners voting “compliant with Liberal Party’s rules”
As the foreign interference inquiry continues, the Liberal party doesn’t seem to have an issue with international students, who aren’t citizens or even reside in Canada most of the time, voting in its nomination races. In fact, bussing foreigners to voting stations is “compliant with the Liberal party’s rules.”
Plus, as Canadians gathered over the weekend the celebrate Easter, one of the most important dates for Christians, the Left tried its best to cancel the holiday. While Veteran Affairs Canada wished Canadians a happy “March Holiday Season,” some leftists went as far as trying to replace Easter with “Transgender Day of Visibility.”
And to end of on a rather unusual note, the president of Botswana has threatened to send 20,000 elephants to Germany in a dispute over conservation.

Canadians say they can’t afford Trudeau’s carbon tax
On April 1, Canadians across the country protested the Trudeau government’s carbon tax and its 23% increase, which comes amidst an unprecedented cost of living crisis. To make matters worse, while taxes are going up for Canadians, so are the salaries of Members of Parliament and the Prime Minister.
True North’s Elie Cantin-Nantel attended the anti-carbon tax protest in front of Parliament Hill in Ottawa to speak with attendees.
