Cold, Beautiful Morning in Big Sky Country
Glassing for deer at sunrise - November, 2022. The start of a beautiful day, 2 degrees Fahrenheit, no traffic, no tweets, texts, or rings - just freedom. A boy and his truck under the clear, blue Big Sky.

Winterkill Bull Elk - Found May 25, 2022
Hiked from before sunrise to well after sunset. In a remote canyon deep in the mountains, while looking for shed antlers, I came upon this winterkill bull. There are no trails here except those made by the elk and deer. Saw several deer and elk spread out over the vast landscape, one Black Bear mama with two cubs, hawks, eagles, coyotes, and grouse. Found two elk sheds, numerous deer sheds, plus this find on the creek. 21 hours of hiking alone in rugged country; not for the faint of heart but nourishing to the body and spirit.

Don't Give Up!!
Searching for antlers on May 15, 2022. I found several, & stashed them to be picked up later, as it's too heavy to carry them all day. I ventured back into a new canyon, ground I had never walked before. Hours later, and very tired, I was about to turn back as I still had miles to go before I was done..... but then I turned around again, and decided to push on a little farther. A mere 200 yards more, and there is a beautiful 6 point elk antler, just waiting to be found. It turned out to be my best day ever; 12 elk antlers, 4 deer antlers, 20 hours hiking with two naps, three quarts of water, six tangerines, some fish jerky, and one almond butter sandwich. Lots of deer and elk, plenty of bear sign, and surprisingly no lion tracks. Hiked the last two hours under a full moon after the eclipse had passed. A day I will never forget.

Sure is Purdy
Looking for elk antlers at high elevation. Sure looks like a great place to run into a bear.

What a Place
Afternoon hike into a beautiful basin in a Montana mountain range. High elevation bogs & springs; I was looking for shed elk antlers but found none. Great moose & bear habitat. The sunny morning turned cloudy & windy, and a driving rain/hailstorm rolled in on me shortly after this video. A stunningly beautiful place, peaceful and free from politics; and thankfully, there is no cell phone service up here. What a spot, what a place.

Peaceful.
Money. Work. Bills. My children's future. Stress, worry, and frustration. I started hiking at noon, returned to the truck at 11pm. Covered nearly 20 miles. No texts, tweets, beeps, messages, posts, news, propaganda, or bullshit. Just my boots crunching on rock, wind through the trees and grasses, sun, a light rain, deer, antelope, singing birds, coyotes crying out, and one beautiful elk antler found along the way. A few hours away from all the madness, and time to thank God for my life here on this Earth.

11 lb. Elk Antler Shed - A Great Find
After 10 hours of hiking, prairie to mountains, back down to the prairie, searching draws and gullies, then back up to the mountains again, a huge elk antler found in the last 20 minutes of the day. No texts, tweets, or beeps all day; only eagles, antelope, coyotes, songbirds, mule deer, and a steady breeze through the grass and trees. Six miles back to the truck in the dark with coyotes yipping....... 12 1/2 hours out under the sky, an hour drive home, and a really great day.

Good Job, America!!
Hedonism, narcissism, and virtue signaling is SO much more important that humility and objectivism!! While we wring our hands over gender pronouns, the melanin content of criminals, and mean tweets, we pay 50 million dollars per day to Vlad the Invader so we don't have to drill here in America; we're doing our part to 'Save the Planet!!' Good job, America!
