Human DNA dictates certain undeniable needs. The need to connect with others, to have purpose, and the need for stability. Having these in place is an important ingredient for a pleasurable life.

We say yes when we mean no because our value of being helpful towards others is coming into conflict with our need to also say yes to ourselves. It is possible to discover your limits (boundaries) and find balance for both.

We collectively "should" on people with rules or beliefs we carry around, expecting others to automatically follow our rules. If our beliefs are strong, we could be setting ourselves up for emotional turmoil. Reduce demanding internal rules to preferences for more peace.

Telling others what they 'should' do without being asked for input is not healthy for relationships. Improving communication skills in relationships and knowing when to talk and when to listen is key for less stress and less conflict. The most important person to have a healthy relationship with is yourself.

If you can understand the source of conflict, I believe conflict can be greatly reduced in any relationship whether it's a partner or a clerk at the corner store.
