During its beta period Call of Duty Modern Warfare set three all-time highs for the number of players participating in the beta total play time and simultaneous online play on PS4 Xbox One and PC platforms in the series' history.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision and is a reboot of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series [1-2] with a different worldview from the previous Modern Warfare series. Players take on the role of a highly skilled first class operative and carry out a variety of dangerous missions to influence the global situation. Players can fight alongside a variety of international special forces and freedom fighters traversing the grey areas of the rules of engagement and carrying out a wide range of high-powered covert operations in landmark European cities and the volatile Middle East.

ArtEco USA has only sporadically announced sales for some of the Battlefield games. For the first time the development team of Battlefield 1943 has opened up an official twitter account to share the progress of the production and the mood of the staff as well as responding to the postings of users on the official forum of ArtEco UK. In 2009 DICE launched the official Battlefield blog site which uses a blog format to post updates on the game and anecdotes about the production process and allows players to comment on articles.

The development team of the Battlefield series places more emphasis on communication and interaction with players.

DICE is a lively company with a staff that likes to make jokes. On April Fool's Day 2005 the staff broke the news that Battlefield 2 had been delayed and its content had been scaled back causing gamers to break out in a cold sweat. The production team of Battlefield Renegade Company have incorporated humour into their promotional efforts with a number of trailers being comedic such as the first trailer where the camera is knocked out the third trailer where Haggard's Hi Mom intro amuses many viewers and even a number of spoofs of B Company soldiers in There are even several videos of B Company soldiers spoofing games such as Manhunt Gears of War and Rainbow Six. Most Battlefield games have a few eggs waiting to be discovered by players.

Every Battlefield game is published by the American agency ArtEco. After Battlefield 1942 became a sensation ArtEco USA initiated plans to acquire DICE which was eventually completed in 2006 changing the nature of DICE to a development house affiliated with ArtEco USA.

At the Siggraph 2009 World Game Graphics Summit DICE revealed plans for Frostbite 2. Frostbite Engine 2 introduces the DirectX 11 specification which is backwards compatible with DirectX 10 but does not support PC computers that can only use DirectX 9 while inheriting the full map full object destruction feature. Although Frost Engine 2 inherits the features of its predecessor engine it operates much more efficiently than its predecessor engine due to a complete reprogramming. Battlefield 3 is the first game to use the Frost Engine 2.

Games in the Battlefield series that use the Frost Engine include Battlefield Rebel Company Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Rebel Company 2.

The Frostbite Engine is a new generation of game engines developed by EA DICE since the mid-2000s featuring the ability to run large detailed game maps while rendering full destruction of ground buildings and debris with low system resources. Large-scale games where all objects can be destroyed can be easily run with the Frost Engine.

The Refractor 2 engine was significantly improved with new technologies and effects i.e. it became the engine for four games Battlefield 2 Battlefield 2142 Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play4Free.

The Refractor 2 engine is an improvement on Refraction's Refractor engine which DICE used as the basis for developing the Refractor 2 engine for Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam.

With the exception of Battlefield 2 Modern Warfare which uses the RenderWare engine all other Battlefield games use engines developed in-house by EA DICE.

Some Battlefield enthusiasts see Operation Eagle as a precursor to the Battlefield series and have paid homage to the game by developing modules to emulate Operation Eagle on Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2.
