Studio 5000 UDT | Building a User-Defined Data Type In Studio 5000 | Batching PLC Day-38
Building a User-Defined data type in Studio 5000 version 32 is what this video shows how to do.
Note that User-Defined data types are referred to as UDTs.
This is the naming structure in RSlogix 5000 & Studio 5000.
They are located in the assets section of the controller organizer for your Studio 5000 program.
Note: all videos in this series are timeline to help you find the topics quickly & are designed to be helpful.

I finally found a great opportunity to provide free PLC software in a training environment to help teach as many people as we can, PLC programming.
I actually show where to get it, how to download it, how to install it, & how to use it in my new training which is only a $9.97 one-time fee.
Only because I aim to help everyone I can & I know that some of us do not have expensive software so we now have an option to learn using free software.
This is just a sample video of what we have been working on.

FactoryTalk View Studio Site Edition ActiveX Numeric Input | Batching PLC Day- 37
In this video, we add our ActiveX numeric input into the pop-up
screen for the pump 1 speed controls using FactoryTalk View Studio Site Editon version 10.
After we add the ActiveX element then we test the use of the ActiveX numeric input using the HMI client to help everyone understand the full use of this object.
Using ActiveX controls in FactoryTalk View Site Edition is close to the same when using them but different when it comes to the ActiveX install.

Using A Numeric Display in FactoryTalk View Studio Site Edition | Batching PLC-36
As we grow in this batching project, we are explaining simple edits that we made to show the numeric displays correctly in an HMI client using FactoryTalk View Studio SE.
If you want to see the details of the building of each of the elements & are catching this project build for the first time then please visit this playlist for more helpful video.
To show that during PLC programming, we all make mistakes but it is moving past that mistake & getting the system running that makes the difference.

PLC Controls Simulation For Flow Meters | Batching PLC Day-31
A quick video showing the next step in our Batching station project to simulate the PLC controls for several flow meters so that we can test the existing & future PLC logic.
Simulating PLC controls is different than emulating.
Simulation is taking the PLC logic & allowing it to do the function it is supposed to do while using a real-world processor.
Although, you could use an emulated processor as well.
Very effective & functional.

PLC Programming | Tank Level Simulation Controls | Batching PLC Day-30
Writing PLC controls that simulate actual real-world functions is very functional because you get to test the PLC logic to make sure the code works as designed.
Simulating PLC controls is different than emulating. Simulation is taking the PLC logic & allowing it to do the function it is supposed to do while using a real-world processor. Although, you could use an emulated processor as well.
Simulation is adjusting the logic to function as designed.
For system testing, for demonstration, for training. I have actually used PLC logic simulation to train operators on how to run a machine & how to troubleshoot it when something happens.
Very effective & functional.

PLC Programming a First Scan Bit In Studio 5000 Version 32 | Batching PLC Day 27
Using a First scan bit in Studio 5000 in a ladder logic set of PLC code.
First scan bits are a very effective way to control system start-ups from power losses among other issues. They can be used for simple tasks like resetting common faults, turning off systems, setting systems to a default state, & much more.
As we are building out this batching station project for YouTube, we wanted to cover as much PLC programming as we can for this example.

PLC Programming | Tank Level Simulation Ladder Logic Controls | Batching PLC Day-23
Let's program some ladder logic in Studio 5000 using timers, one-shots, XIC, XIO, Add, Sub instructions for simulation logic.
Each section is broken down in the video timeline.
And yes, I do apologize for it being a 29-minute video but it takes what it takes to do things the correct way. I want to make sure I pass on as much knowledge as I can so the details matter.
Being video number 23 in this series, we are getting into programming a lot deeper now so if you have been following, you will love the details coming in from here on out.
Videos 1 to 22 were building the foundation, the plc program, the HMI screens, the solid understanding to help everyone grow. Thank you for the support.

Studio 5000 PLC Program | Build A Temporary Simulation Routine -Why? | Batching PLC Day-22
This short video talks about why you should add a temporary routine in your plc program for code simulation. Not emulation but simulation, the difference is that emulation is for the software used & a simulation is for the plc code.
This is video 22 of the batching station plc training.

PLC Programming for a Simulation in Studio 5000 | Flow Meter Simulation | Batching PLC Day-21
Building simulation logic for a flow meter in ladder logic using Studio 5000 version 32 is exactly what we are starting in this video. Laying the foundation of the simulation logic to be used in later videos.
Simulating ladder logic can be done in many different ways & it is important to note that building this type of logic depends on what process you are simulating.
In this video, we are building simulation logic for several flow meters.

Studio 5000 Programming Structure | Global Ladder Logic Controls Routine & Why | Batching PLC Day-20
Having a foundation of system controls & PLC programming structure is important to being user-friendly on the technical side of the fence.
With that being said, having a routine that does the global controls for a system is often the way to go.
This way, you get an easily segmented place in the program to find the start, stop, reset, or any other system control that you may need to use throughout your plc program.
This is video 20 of our batching station plc training that will be providing a detailed video per video breakdown of a full controls system being built.

Studio 5000 Motion Group Time Synchronization with Date & Time | Batching PLC Day-19
If you are using servos in your Studio 5000 program then you have a motion group that needs to be time synced to the processor time for proper controls which in this short video under 5 minutes we show.
When it comes to servo timing or the way a controllogix processor scans the tags & monitors the encoder then knowing that there has a be a time master is important.
In very large systems, the time master is not just the processor but is actually derived from an Ethernet switch that works with a master processor.
In small systems, the time master is in the local processor so it is very easy to just make sure the time is set & the check box is checked.
In this short video, I show how to do this on the small scale system using Studio 5000 32 from our batching station plc training.
This is video 19.

What is a Boolean In Studio 5000 | XIC instruction & XIO instruction tutorial | Batching PLC Day-18
A boolean is used in any computer language & is either a value of 1 or 0. In Studio 5000 software, booleans are used on a tag-based system for system controls.
The computing of any kind uses a transition of a one or zero value to indicate the next step in the process they are running. In Studio 5000 made by Rockwell Automation, this is made extra simple because you can see the transition using ladder logic.
Ladder logic is one of the four plc programming languages, all fours are listed.
✔ Ladder Logic
✔ Function Block
✔ Sequential Function Chart
✔ Structure Text

PLC Programming with Studio 5000 | Build A PLC Program Structure | Batching PLC Day-16
Knowing how to structure a PLC program can save you a lot of time programming & also save time for those that have to troubleshoot device issues in the future.
There is no such thing as a perfect program, the key is to be as user-friendly on the operator side & on the PLC program side so that the system you program has to best practice for success.
I have used these techniques over the past 9 years & it has increased the productivity of major brand companies, for the sake of privacy, which will not be shared because of multiple reasons.
What will be shared is the knowledge behind what it takes & if you follow this series of videos then you will be better in your career every day you learn. This is day 16 of our Batching Station plc training.
