Teacher cuts strike blow to SA, say protesters
“Strike a teacher, strike a nation.” That was one of the chants shouted by protesters in the southern suburbs against the provincial education department’s plan to cut 2400 teacher posts next year in response to national government budget cuts.
Scores of teachers, parents and pupils from Windsor High School picketed, on the corner of Imam Haron Road and Queen Bess Road, in Lansdowne, on Wednesday September 18. They held up placards saying, “Say no to budget cuts,” “Save our teachers, save our schools,” and “Stop corruption, not education.”
Women get advice on rape, cancer, fire safety and more
Rape, breast cancer and fire safety were among the issues discussed at the Sarepta community hall on Thursday.
About 50 women attended the meeting, which ward councillor Wouter de Vos organised to offer advice to women on several issues.
Sheryl Esau spoke about her battle with breast cancer.

Six young chefs who put their best plates forward, off to finals of cooking contest
Six young chefs will represent Cape Town in the finals of the 2024 RCL Foods Young Chefs and Bakers Challenge, which will take place in Kwa-Zulu Natal on Thursday October 3.
A total of 60 chefs competed simultaneously in three cities across the country, with 10 teams competing in both Johannesburg and Durban, and 10 teams in Cape Town. Each team consisted of two chefs.
