The Robben Island shoreline was buzzing with volunteers who came to clean up the UNESCO World Heritage Site on Saturday.
Robben Island Museum joined forces with various partners including the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, SANParks, the V&A Waterfront, Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), and Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages for the clean-up on Saturday, September 14, ahead of International Coastal Clean-up Day on Saturday September 21.

Six young chefs who put their best plates forward, off to finals of cooking contest
Six young chefs will represent Cape Town in the finals of the 2024 RCL Foods Young Chefs and Bakers Challenge, which will take place in Kwa-Zulu Natal on Thursday October 3.
A total of 60 chefs competed simultaneously in three cities across the country, with 10 teams competing in both Johannesburg and Durban, and 10 teams in Cape Town. Each team consisted of two chefs.

Trees planted in Muizenberg Park
Friends of Muizenberg Park planted five young olive trees in the park on Thursday September 12, following the completion of phase one of a restoration project there.
A small group of residents and City officials, including ward councillor Izabel Sherry and park superintendent Patrick Williams, attended the tree-planting ceremony.

Hundreds join 10th annual Silent Walk
More than 300 people took part in the 10th annual Silent Walk in Newlands on Saturday September 7 to bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing.
Hosted by the Deaf Federation of South Africa (DeafSA), the walk started from its Newlands office and wound through the streets of Newlands, including Main Road, Klipper Road, Dean Street and Sans Souci Road.
September is the National Month of Deaf People.
