Operating a low-speed floor machine is very simple. Once the handle is set to the operator's safe height, the safety switch is pushed and then the handles can be squeezed. When the machine comes on, the unit will move to the side. Pulling UP on the handles makes the machine go in one direction. Pushing DOWN on the handles makes the unit go in the opposite direction. Pad selection is based on the task at hand. Be sure to wear the correct footwear for the job. Autoscrubbers are a great tool to strip large amounts of VCT floors that have a finish on them. The stripper solution is applied to the floor via various different methods. The autoscrubber is used to agitate the stripping solution with typically a black pad, however, there are many various colors and degrees of aggressiveness available. Once the area has been scrubbed, the operator drops the squeegee and sucks the loosened finish from the floor. Top scrubbing VCT flooring can be done with almost any autoscrubber, whether it is rotary or oscillating. In this video, we show the rotary unit and its unique feature to drop the pad off and put the pad back on. Not every unit has this feature. Always use the BLUE scrub pad. It is more aggressive than the red but doesn't have any abrasive coatings on the fibers. The idea is to remove surface issues, but not to abrade the finish. The use of an 8 pH cleaner instead of a daily neutral cleaning, helps in this process. Always remember to rinse the floor with plain water before applying up to 2 coats of your favorite finish. When the autoscrubber is put away at the end of the shift, the squeegee should NOT still be on it. It should be taken off, inspected, and then stored on hooks on the wall. The blades can then be checked for cuts, tears, or wear.
