How would a nuclear war between Russia and the US affect you personally?
What would happen if a nuclear war were to be sparked between Russia and the United States today? Who would survive?
In our most scientifically realistic simulation to date, we show what a nuclear war between Russia and the United States might look like today. It is based on detailed modeling of nuclear targets, missile trajectories, and the effects of blasts, EMPs, and smoke on the climate and food resources.
We have just announced the results of our latest grant program focused on the humanitarian impacts of nuclear war – see the list of projects here: https://futureoflife.org/grant-progra...

The Beginning of Everything -- The Big Bang
How did everything get started?
Has the universe a beginning or was it here since forever? Well, evidence suggests that there was indeed a starting point to this universe we are part of right now. But how can this be? How can something come from nothing? And what about time? We don't have all the answers yet so let's talk about what we know.
Also, we try to make this one not depressing. Tell us if we succeeded.
BY THE WAY. We have a website now. We'll try to blog from time to time, show you guys how we make the videos and give more insight to our process. Also we sell stuff. We really don't know where this whole kurzgesagt stuff leads us. But we are really thankful for all the attention and positive feedback and yeah, maybe we can make this our jobs -- it would be pretty nice and we could do more content each month. But we'll see. For now, thank you very much everybody for making this little adventure possible.

Colosos - The Bloop vs El Gran Majá - The Battle
"Two beasts have to fight in the Atlantic, at the gates of Puerto Rico. They are the most colossal monsters ever found. Nobody knows the reasons for this combat. Territory? Combat of alphas? Or something else? Surely it is something else , there is always something more. But it doesn't matter now, it only matters to see an ocean dyed in blood."

How Big is The Universe?
How Big is The Universe?
We begin at the familiar blue and green orb we call home and zoom out to explore the vastness of space. From the Moon, our closest cosmic neighbor, to the edges of the observable universe, prepare to be astonished by the sheer scale of everything that exists.
Travel with us as we venture past the Moon, understanding its distance in terms we can grasp. Witness the Sun, not just as a source of light, but as a milestone in the vastness of our solar system. We don't stop there; Mars, Neptune, and the outer reaches of our solar neighborhood await.
Discover the awe-inspiring distances to the Voyager 1 probe, the enigmatic Oort Cloud, and the neighboring star system of Alpha Centauri. As we sail through the Milky Way, understand our position in the grand scheme of things, where our entire history is just a whisper in the cosmic wind.
Our voyage takes us further, to the Local Group, Virgo Supercluster, and the staggering Laniakea Supercluster. We contemplate the Great Attractor's pull and our place in this immense heaven.
Confront the boundaries of the observable universe and ponder the mystery of what lies beyond. This video is not just a journey through space but a journey of perspective. Join us in marveling at the universe's grandeur and our humble place within it.

What If You Fell Into Jupiter
Humans have explored the Moon, Mars, and of course, Earth. But what do we know about Jupiter?
For the most part, this gas giant is a mystery. So what would happen if you wanted to discover it for yourself and jumped right onto the planet? Or should we say into? Because Jupiter doesn't have a surface, just a seemingly endless stretch of atmosphere.
Would you fall straight through? What would you see on your way? And how would it make you feel?

TIMELAPSE OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE
On a cosmic time scale, human history is as brief as the blink of an eye. By compressing all 13.8 billion years of time into a 10 minute scale, this video shows just how young we truly are, and just how ancient and vast our universe is. Starting with the big bang and culminating in the appearance of homo sapiens, this experience follows the unfolding of time at 22 million years per second, adhering closely to current scientific understanding.

The Sounds of Space_ A sonic adventure to other worlds
Space is more than just a feast for the eyes. It’s a feast for the ears. You just have to know where -- and when -- to look.
Floating in the silent void of space are trillions of islands of sound, each with their own sonic flavor -- some eerily familiar, some wildly different than Earth’s. And even space itself was once brimming with sound.
This short film takes you on a journey back in time and to the edge of our solar system and beyond, to discover what other worlds of sound are lurking beyond Earth's atmosphere. You won't believe your ears :)

In the Blink of an Eye_ Space in an Instant
When we look up at night, the universe seems pretty quiet. But that perspective is an illusion; in reality, there are millions of world-shattering events happening every instant across the cosmos. This short film explores just how much is going on every moment in our ridiculously enormous universe.
In the fraction of a second it takes to blink your eyes, thousands of stars will be born, hundreds will explode and die, millions of planets will form, and our universe will expand by half a million kilometers in diameter.
And these numbers only account for the observable universe -- not for what could be happening beyond, where some scientists believe there could be an infinite expanse of space.

What If the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies Collided
See that bright object in the sky? That’s Andromeda – the closest major galaxy to our Milky Way and the most distant thing you can see with the naked eye. And… it’s racing toward us at a rate of 110 km per second (68 miles per second). Eventually, 4 billion years from now, Andromeda will merge our Milky Way in a huge galactic collision.

LIFE BEYOND Chapter 3: In Search of Giants. The Hunt for Intelligent Alien Life (4K)
Who are the masters of the universe? Are we the only intelligent life, or is something else lurking out there?
For 60 years now, we have probed the skies for signs of alien intelligence, longing for connection -- to no avail. But new ideas and technologies are beginning to change the game.
Proudly presenting the third chapter in the Life Beyond trilogy: In Search of Giants.
In this journey, we will see how far we’ve come in the search for intelligent life, how they might be communicating, just how advanced they might be, and what it would mean if we really did make contact.
It might take thousands of years to make a discovery. But as long as the mystery endures, the search for giants will continue. It's in our blood to want to know.

LIFE BEYOND Chapter II: The Museum of Alien Life (4K)
What if there was a museum that contained every type of life form in the universe? This experience takes you on a tour through the possible forms alien life might take, from the eerily familiar to the utterly exotic, ranging from the inside of the Earth to the most hostile corners of the universe.
New research is upending our idea of life and where it could be hiding: not just on Earth-like planets, where beings could mimic what our planet has produced, but in far flung places like the hearts of dead stars and the rings of gas giant planets. Nowhere in the universe is off limits.
Only when we know what else is out there will we truly know ourselves. This thought experiment will give us a glimpse into what could be out there, how we might find it, and just how far nature’s imagination might stretch.

LIFE BEYOND: Chapter 1. Alien life, deep time, and our place in cosmic history (4K)
The biggest question of our time. Are we alone? Chapter 1 of this experience takes you to alien worlds and distant places in time and space, in search of where alien life might be hiding and what our place is within the history of life. After generations of wondering, the truth is finally within our reach. New research and technologies have brought us closer than ever to an answer - only a few decades in the eyes of some NASA scientists.
The search has led to new discoveries that will blow your mind wide open and give a profound new perspective on human life. The deeper we look, the deeper we see into nature's imagination, and the more we learn about ourselves. I hope stewing on these thoughts tickles your brain as deeply as it does mine.
In upcoming chapters of Life Beyond we will explore making contact with intelligent life, the potential physics of alien biology, how to survive the end of the universe, and more
