Regenerative Small Scale Farming With Nature
See an overview of our process on our regenerative farm. A lot of the principles here can be applied to homesteading. See how we raise cornish cross chickens, raise chickens for eggs, build compost, raise lambs, farm in harmony with nature and much more!
The centerpiece of our regenerative farm is our Pasture Raised Chickens, which are cornish cross meat chickens. We raise them in chicken tractors and in open, movable paddocks with electric poultry netting.
Our layer chickens and horses help build compost which will then be used in the garden and greenhouse.
This holistic approach to farming mimics nature and provides us with unbelievable abundance!

Butcher Chicken Parting Out & Deboning
On our farm we raise Cornish Cross meat chickens and this is how we part out our pasture raised meat chickens for market sales. In this video we show you how butcher a chicken into various cuts such as breast, wings, leg quarters, drumsticks, thighs, boneless skinless thighs, and how to debone thighs and drumsticks for use in ground meat.
In this step by step video, you will learn how to break down a chicken from start to finish. This is a great skill to learn if you raise meat chicken, such as cornish cross, freedom rangers, or if you just want to learn to butcher chickens for your own home use.
Use the left over bones for bone broth and soups.

How To Raise Cornish Cross: Chicken Tractor vs Open Pasture
If you want to raise meat chickens, cornish cross are some of the most common and easy to raise. And raising chickens for meat is a great way to combat food shortages and a must have on homesteads. But what is the best way to raise chickens for meat? A Joel Salatin Style chicken tractor? Open pasture? Whatever system you choose, always make sure it allows for movement when raising meat chickens. Cornish Cross are typically thought not to be great foragers, but in my experience, they do just fine and can make great backyard chickens as well a popular choice for homesteads and farms.
In this video we explore both chicken tractors and raising meat chickens on open pasture and watch as I move a group to a new pasture spot to build biomass and regenerate pasture. This a a great system for homesteads to create food security in a world where food shortages are starting to make news headlines.

Soy & Chickens: The Real Story
When raising chickens for eggs or raising chickens for meat, a common question comes up, "Can you feed soy to chickens?" Yes and no. There's actually more to that question. In this video we dive into studies done and take a look at how feeding soy to your chickens can affect your health. On our farm we raise broiler chickens, which are cornish cross meat chickens as well as many different breeds of layer hens for eggs. Soy free chickens seem to be a buzz word and worth looking into. However, when we looked into feed our pasture raised chickens a soy protein diet vs soy free diet, there was a story that unfolded. There is a lot of misunderstanding and in this video we find answers to those questions.

How To Overcome Food Shortage: 1 Year Of Meat From Your Own Backyard Raising Chickens
Worried about food shortages? You don't need a lot of land to practice a simple act that creates food security that a lot of homesteaders do. You can raise your own backyard chickens for meat in what's called a chicken tractor. More on that later. In just 8 to 10 weeks, you will have a freezer full of chicken you raised that can feed a family for 1 year! Not only that, but raising backyard chickens on a homestead or small yard will also build soil, capture carbon, add fertility to your land, create an abundance of life, and nurioush you and your family like no grocery store ever could. This can start your journey on breaking free from factory farmed foods and create food security. Food shortages will not be a worry any more!
In this video we mostly look at raising cornish cross chickens, but this method can be used for raising chickens for meat, regardless of the age. You can even raise chickens for eggs in a similar manner. Just add laying boxes, and you are set!
Homesteading methods like this one can be used even in small yard. In this video, we look at raising backyard chickens on just 5,000 sq ft of land. That's less than 1/8th of an acre! Each year you do this, your backyard chickens will make your soil more productive, yielding more and more nutrients either for growing grass or for a garden!
We use what's called chicken tractors to allow for movement and encourage freshness. Chicken tractors are a small moveable shelter that will house your chickens, but easy to move by hand. Raising cornish cross in chicken tractors is a tired and true method and many homesteaders and backyard chicken keepers use them because of all their benefits.
A 8 to 10 week project to feed you and your family for 1 year! Now that's how we start to fight food shortages!
Because of food shortages, homesteading has been taking off. People are wanting to start their own homestead is a growing trend, and given current events, it makes sense.
So watch this video for a high level overview of how to raise cornish cross chickens then check out my other videos for a more indepth look at some of these topics.

Raising Lamb Winter vs Summer
Raising lambs or sheep differs depending on the season. Summer allows for movement and winter the soil and grass slow down. So raising the lambs or sheep in the winter require us to change our strategy. In this video I show an overview of how we raise our lambs on pasture on our regenerative farm and how it changes with the season.

Chickens & Gardening; Get Fresh Eggs Daily & Prep A Greenhouse
Take a look inside our greenhouse and see how we raise chickens for eggs during the winter and how they are used to help our garden and growing vegetables. This gives us fresh eggs daily as well as prepares the ground for our greenhouse. Keeping chickens in one spot, be it a greenhouse, a chicken coop or chicken run, can cause some problems since they never move from that area. If you can not rotate your chickens through your land, this system will help you overcome some of the problems and turn those problems into assets for a summer garden.

Chicken Tractor Design: Joel Salatin Style
This is a Joel Salatin style chicken tractor and how I have used it to raise over 1600 chickens on 1 acre of pasture in one season. Use this design on your homestead for backyard chickens or enter into the world of pastured poultry profits and generate some income from raising meat chickens.
This year, we are going to raise our cornish cross meat chickens slightly different and making a simple modification to this Joel Salatin style chicken tractor. Make sure to subscribe to our channel and follow us this season to see how we will use this chicken tractor along with poultry netting to create movable paddocks. This is a great design for homesteads or small pastured poultry farms.
These chicken pens can be used for raising meat chickens such as cornish cross, freedom rangers or heritage breeds.

The Journey of a Regenerative Farm - Pastured Poultry Season Begins
On our homestead, we run a regenerative farm, located in Latrobe, PA, which is just outside of Pittsburgh in the Appalachian Mountains, where we align ourselves within the brilliance of nature. Following all natural methods that far exceed organic standards, we serve all of Pennsylvania and are mostly known for our pasture raised chicken.
In this video we show you the very start of our season and how we raise our pasture raised chickens. We raise these chickens all season long and this is the first batch of the season in our brooder which marks the start of our season here on the farm. These are cornish cross broiler chickens that we raise for meat and process here on the farm. Follow along this season and watch how we raise meat chickens not only to feed ourselves, but we also raise these meat chickens for profit.
