How we got to Western totalitarianism. Part 1 The communist disappointment of WW1
Communists expected WW1 to lead to world revolution. It didn't. Cultural Marxism or Critical Theory (behind today's woke-ism) was the Western communist response to that disappointment. In the name of 'progress' and under the banner of 'progressivism', communists discount all Western moral progress in the rush to destroy Western culture.

Homosexuality is not transcendence of nature
There are some who argue that being gay is an admirable heroic transcendence of nature - I've heard Milo Yiannopoulis make this argument. This isn't true. Homosexuality is no more a transcendence of nature than is homicidal sado-masochism. It's an expression of nature, not a transcendence of it, and that leaves open the question of how fitting an expression of nature it is.

Peace of mind, Catholicism, divorce, disillusionment
Most modern approaches to mental and emotional health focus on victimisation and the need for personal empowerment. The Judaeo-Christian tradition, in contrast, strives to recapture a lost primordial innocence. Sharing this spirit, the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodoxy were one church for a thousand years before they separated. They separated in part over the issue of papal authority, with the Catholic Church trying to exercise it, and the Orthodox East refusing to accept it. Maybe this is why the two differ on the issue of divorce. Along with the Orthodox Church, I believe the Catholic belief in the indissolubility of marriage is wrong.

Sir Tony Blair - worthy knight or war criminal?
Hatred of Tony Blair has become a socially acceptable cult that grossly oversimplifies the true causes of the Iraq War. It unites people from the far left (who treat Blair as a heretic), people from the libertarian right inclined towards non-interventionism, radical Islamists who promote Islamic imperialism, and pacifists unwilling to use military force under any circumstances. This unity tends to be informed by a Marxist definition of imperialism, and is essentially opposed to historic Western democracy. Whatever Blair's faults, his present-day detractors are far more dangerous to the West.

All species change the climate
All species change our planet's climate, normally in ways which regulate it favourably for the continuation of life. But the sheer power, scale and artificiality of human industry, has an unprecedentedly huge impact compared to other species, and the counterbalancing forces of Nature can only rebound back on us with a matching power and scale. Does the threat of that Natural reaction justify authoritarian political globalism?
