Rover NASA's Moon Rover Practices its Lunar Lander Exit
NASA's Moon rover prototype completed lunar lander egress tests.
The VIPER mission is managed by NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley and is scheduled to be delivered to Mons Mouton near the South Pole of the Moon in late 2024 by Astrobotic's Griffin lander as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative.
VIPER will inform future Artemis landing sites by helping to characterize the lunar environment and help determine locations where water and other resources could be harvested to sustain humans over extended stays.
The VIPER science team also aims to address how frozen water and other volatiles got on the Moon in the first place, where they came from, what has kept some of them preserved over billions of years, and where they go after they escape the lunar soil.

To Bennu and Back: Journey's End
OSIRIS-REX is NASA's first asteroid sample return mission. It launched in September 2016 on a journey to explore a near-Earth asteroid called Bennu. In October 2020, the spacecraft ventured to the asteroid's surface and collected about 250 grams of material for delivery to Earth. Now, two years and four months after leaving Bennu, OSIRIS-REX is clo...more

OSIRIS-REX Asteroid Sample Return Mission Overview (Official NASA Briefing)
Experts from NASA's OSIRIS-REX (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer) mission give an overview on the asteroid sample capsule's landing and recovery plans set for Sept. 24, 2023.
News conference participants are:
Melissa Morris, OSIRIS-REX program executive, NASA Headquarters, Washington Dante Lauretta, OSIRIS-REX principal investigator,
University of Arizona, Tucson
Rich Burns, OSIRIS-REX project manager, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland Sandra Freund, OSIRIS-REX program manager,
Lockheed Martin, Littleton, Colorado
Kevin Righter, OSIRIS-REX deputy curation lead, NASA's Johnson Space Center, Houston
On Sept. 24, the OSIRIS-REX spacecraft will approach Earth and release its sample return capsule into the atmosphere on a path to land at the Department of Defense's Utah Test and Training Range. The event makes it the first U.S. asteroid sample return. On Sept. 24, the OSIRIS-REX spacecraft will approach Earth and release its sample return capsule into the atmosphere on a path to land at the Department of Defense's Utah Test and Training Range. The event makes it the first U.S. asteroid sample return.
The touchdown will mark the end of a seven-year journey to explore asteroid Bennu, collect a sample from its surface, and deliver it to Earth for study. Scientists around the world will study the sample over the coming decades to learn about how our planet and solar system formed, as well as the origin of organics that may have led to life on Earth.

I Jumped From Space (World Record Supersonic Freefall)
What does it *really* feel like to jump from space? In 2012 Felix Baumgartner took a helium balloon into the stratosphere and skydived back to earth in a specially made space suit. Whilst in freefall he broke the speed of sound and entered a spin which threatened the entire Red Bull Stratos mission... Felix reflects on his achievement and shares what it really felt like to jump from the edge of space.

Watch the "Ring of Fire" Solar Eclipse (NASA Broadcast Trailer)
On Oct. 14, 2023, a "ring of fire," or annular, solar eclipse will travel from Oregon coast to the Gulf of Mexico. Weather permitting, most of the Americas will be able to view at least a partial solar eclipse. Click here to see the NASA 2023 and 2024 Solar Eclipse Map: https://go.nasa.gov/USEclipseMaps
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, but is just far away enough in its orbit that the Sun is not completely covered-creating a large, bright ring in the sky.
WARNING: During an annular eclipse, it is never safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing. How to safely view an eclipse:
https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/eclipses...
Not in the path of the eclipse? Watch with us from anywhere in the world. We will provide live broadcast coverage on Oct. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. EDT (1530-1715 UTC) on NASA TV, NASA.gov, the NASA app, and right here on YouTube:

NASA's SpaceX Crew-7 Mission to the Space Station (Official Trailer)
An international crew is preparing to launch to the International Space Station aboard NASA's SpaceX Crew-7 mission.
NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Andreas Mogensen, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov of Roscosmos will perform research technology demonstrations, science experiments, and maintenance activities aboard the microgravity laboratory.
Crew-7 is targeted to launch no earlier than 3:27 a.m. EDT Saturday, Aug. 26 from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy. As part of the agency's Commercial Crew Program, Crew-7 marks the eighth human spaceflight mission supported by a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and the seventh crew rotation mission to the space station since 2020 for NASA.

Why is Venus So Hot? We Asked a NASA Scientist
Why is Venus so hot?
The planet's thick CO2-filled atmosphere is great at trapping heat. This creates a runaway greenhouse effect that makes Venus roughly 700°F (389°C) hotter than it would be otherwise. @NASAJPL's Dr. Amy Hofmann provides all the sizzling detail! ...more

Expedition 69 NASA's SpaceX Crew-6 Talks with Media Before Station Departure - Aug. 23, 2023
astronauts Steve Bowen and Woody Hoburg, UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev gave remarks about their mission during a news conference August 23. The Crew-6 astronauts have been aboard the space station since March and will return to Earth via a parachute assisted splashdown in September. The four crew members have been living and working aboard the microgravity laboratory to advance scientific knowledge and demonstrate new technologies for future human and robotic exploration missions. Such research benefits people on Earth and lays the groundwork for future human exploration through the agency's Artemis missions, which will send astronauts to the Moon to prepare for future expeditions to Mars.

NASA's High Density Vertiplex Research
In the coming years and decades, NASA wants to
bring new and innovative aviation services to areas
across the country, which will likely mean more
helicopter-style aircraft in the skies. NASA researchers
recently completed a series of tests to help make that
vision into a reality: simulating a facility where large
volumes of vertical take-off and landing aircraft can
operate.
NASA's Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) project works to help emerging aviation markets safely develop air transportation systems to move people and cargo. Its High Density Vertiplex (HDV) subproject seeks to develop the infrastructure needed to support those systems. Much of the country's air infrastructure is dedicated to airplanes. But in the future vertiports will become increasingly important, especially in urban areas.
