An explosion in Saint-Constant, a city on the south shore of Montreal, has sent two families to hospital with severe burns. Eight people, including four children, were sent to hospital. According to authorities, the two families were gathered in a backyard when the garage behind them exploded. At around 9:40 p.m., police received several 911 calls from neighbours saying the building on Breton Street was on fire. Authorities say firefighters found the victims on the front lawn of the home and the home across the street. Luc Lapointe, chief of operations of the fire department of Grandes-Seigneuries, told Global that all eight people suffered severe burns to different parts of their bodies Multiple ambulances were dispatched to the scene to transport the victims to a Montreal hospital. None are in life-threatening condition. Matilda Cerone reports.

In a video address on Sunday, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israel has been “preparing the governing alternative to Hamas” as it isolates areas in its military operation in Gaza. Furthermore, he suggested an alternative would help in “Returning the hostages.” Gallant’s comments come after Israel proposed a draft ceasefire plan on Friday, calling for an immediate six-week halt to the ongoing hostilities. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s one sticking point was that no permanent ceasefire will happen as long as Hamas stays in power. This condition was echoed by Gallant, who said Israel “will not accept the rule of Hamas as the authority in Gaza.”

On the 25th day of the pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Toronto (UofT), various workers unions from the Ontario Labour Federation (OLF) rallied in support of students and other protesters on Monday. This comes as the university said that it’s taking legal action in an effort to clear an encampment of pro-Palestinian protesters from its downtown campus. A statement posted Monday morning from university president Meric Gertler said the school is seeking an injunction and asking the court for an expedited case conference.
