Octopath Traveler: The BEST JRPG of the 2010s?
Allow me to gush over Octopath Traveler for a while. I won't try to argue it's the _best,_ but it's my _favorite_ turn-based JRPG of the past decade.
Developed and published by Square Enix, Octopath Traveler was released in 2018 for Nintendo Switch and later came to Windows and Xbox. Showcasing Square's new "HD-2D" visual style, this gem is a noteworthy update to the tried-and-true JRPG formula.

What kind of impression do FFXIII and FFXIII-2 make on a newcomer to the series? I give my thoughts.
Developed and published by Square, Final Fantasy XIII was released in 2009 for PlayStation 3 in Japan, and worldwide in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360. Its follow-up, Final Fantasy XIII-2, first hit Japan in 2011 and other regions in 2012.

Does Dragon Quest IV Deserve Its Reputation?
Dragon Quest IV followed up the most popular RPG in Japan at the time. How does it rate today?
Dragon Quest IV was developed by Chunsoft and released in 1990 by Enix for the Nintendo Famicom. The first entry in the loosely-defined "Zenithia trilogy", which also includes Dragon Quests V and VI, it first came to the West as Dragon Warrior IV for the NES in 1992. It later saw Western re-releases for Nintendo DS and iOS/Android as Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen.

Why Fire Emblem Fans Should Play FE1 (Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light Retrospective)
Fire Emblem fans who skip FE1 are missing out. Often called Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light before it received an official translation, the first Fire Emblem game was a hit in Japan, yet only made it to Western shores recently.
Developed by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo R&D1 and published by Nintendo, 1990's Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light was originally released in Japan for the Famicom. It saw its first Western release in 2020 as a limited time offer for Nintendo Switch, in celebration of the series's 30th anniversary.

Mother Retrospective: Underrated in the West? (EarthBound Beginnings / EarthBound Zero)
Mother, EarthBound Beginnings, EarthBound Zero—take your pick. But is it any good?
The brainchild of Shigesato Itoi, 1989's Mother was developed by Ape (later known as Creatures, Inc.) and Pax Softnica and was published by Nintendo exclusively in Japan for the Famicom (NES). It did not see a Western release until 2015, under the name EarthBound Beginnings. Previously, fan translations called the game EarthBound Zero or simply Mother.
