Fallout Glitches - Episode 3
Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/quantumapprentice
The original Fallout game had a lot of fun bugs, glitches and exploits that are really funny to watch and fun to figure out how they work. These are the continuing adventures of a no-name streamer falling down the Fallout rabbit hole as I find and abuse as many of these bugs as I can :P
This episode I figure out how to get free money from the caravan companies at The Hub, show off how cheesy gambling is in the original Fallout, then proceed to destroy the caravans I was hired to guard with no repercussions, and show off an odd scripting bug that has different results on the Water Chip Quest timer vs the world calendar.
I'm playing version 1.2 with the Hi-Res mod only, which is the official version currently on Steam, and should be the same on GOG.com or Bethesda.net.

This episode I demonstrate a drug/chem related exploit that allows you to
get more points out of skill books, 1:15
a missed censorship in the voiced dialogue, 7:22
another timer/calander disparity, 8:47
finishing up with an awesome XP and water chip timer exploit to give you unlimited amounts of both! 10:47
Thank you to all my awesome supporters!

Today I mess around with the Shady Sands quest to clear the radscorpion caves by using dynamite (a recurring theme as we go through the series), then head out to rescue Tandi from the Khans, but instead take advantage of a scripting exploit involving a bag to keep a Tandi "item" in my inventory.

Fallout 2 Modding - Scripting 101
3 Ways to Write a Follow Script.
My first full length scripting video...complicated and long...but I hope the editing at least makes sense.
I'd love any feedback on how to better explain what's going on with the scripting process.
A couple of tips from the author of the Sfall Script Editor:
"Instead of the old assignment := you can use modern way =
There are some tricks to writing code, so writing the word
'var' press the Tab key and the word is replaced with 'variable'
the same thing with:
proc - Тab - procedure
if - Тab
elif - Тab
while/for - Тab
to avoid writing the keyword 'end' every time, press Enter after the keyword 'begin' - this will automatically insert the keyword end."

Fallout 2 Modding - New SFX
Importing new sound effects into your Fallout 2 mod is not the easiest thing in the world, mostly because the game uses a proprietary file format for sounds. But there are a couple of older pieces of software out there made by some of the original Fallout modders (ABel of TeamX in the case of snd2acm.exe), and this step by step tutorial should help new-comers to the Fallout 2 modding scene to add sweet new sounds to their awesome mod!

Fallout 2 Modding - Basic Dialogue
This is a short video describing the very basics of the dialogue system.
The dialogue system is pretty complicated in Fallout 2, but because it uses the same
scripting system the rest of the game uses it's also incredibly powerful.
Eventually I'll cover a lot of the different details in the dialogue system and other scripting magic, but this episode just covers the basics: How to edit the dialogue lines, how to refer to them from a script, how to make new dialogue nodes, and how to attach a script to a critter.
0:00 - Intro
0:18 - Open the Sfall Script Editor
3:08 - "Directory does not exist" error message when creating dialogues
3:40 - Dialogue line layout
6:48 - Creating new dialogue Nodes
7:07 - "Unhandled Exception" error message when creating new procedures
7:31 - List of different dialogue commands
8:44 - Adding a script to a critter in the Fallout Mapper
9:48 - "GDialog::Error Grabbing text message" error when testing dialogues in-game

A basic intro to the Fallout 2 Sfall Script Editor. This piece of open source software is incredible in it's advanced development. It's still a little buggy, but for making Fallout 2 mods there is very little it can't do.

Fallout 2 Modding - Exit Grids in Detail
In this episode I cover just about everything there is to know about Exit Grids and how they work. I also discovered a number of situations that crash the mapper when using "Game Mode" to test exit grids.
While making this video I did my best to document as many of these crashes as I could so you could see exactly what causes them, but the easiest workaround is simply to test exit grids (and probably most map changes) in the game itself.

While probably a little too detailed in parts, I just wanted to get something out there for others who might be interested in actually creating something new to play on the older Fallout 2 game engine.
Although Black Isle Studios didn't create the engine with modding in mind, and mod support was very minimal when the game came out, there was still a fair amount of effort by the original developers to get modding tools into the hands of the fans. A couple of decades of fan contributions have made modding Fallout 2 a lot easier than it used to be...though not as easy as I'd like it to be. Some of the software is complicated to use, buggy, crashy, and descriptions of how it works are sparse or incorrect sometimes, but my hope is that helping people understand the modding process will usher in a new era of Fallout 2 Mods.
If you'd like to join me in making mods for this engine, I'll be streaming it on Saturdays at https://www.twitch.tv/quantumapprentice

How to Download and Install FFmpeg in Windows 7 and 10
FFmpeg is a super useful video codec tool that is ridiculously complicated to set up and use.
