Tomato dal with cherry tomatoes
Recipe by Praveena
Hello friends..welcome to my channel , let’s make this simple tomato dal.Using small tomatoes with a few tips makes it scrumptious.Try this once and I am sure you will enjoy it.
To a pressure cooker add little oil, little turmeric and few fenugreek seeds, mix well. Add the washed toor dal, mix. Add few green chillies, enough water, mix well, here I added 3 measures of water for 1 measure of toor dal.Pressure cook for 3 whistles on a medium flame and set aside.
Heat some oil and ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dried red chillies, asafoetida, curry leaves and fry. Now add some crushed garlic and fry till garlic turns pink. Add salt, turmeric, chilli powder, cherry tomatoes and few sliced onions, mix well. Make sure to evenly spread the tomatoes on to the pan. Cover with a lid and cook on a medium flame till soft. Remove the lid and give it a stir. Add little tamarind juice, mix well, cover and cook for 5 mins.
Blend the dal using a hand blender into a smooth paste. If you don’t have a hand blender wait for the dal to cool down before grinding it with a mixie jar or use a traditional masher for a slightly grainy texture.
Check the tomato mixture and give it a stir. Add the mashed dal and stir well. Add water if needed depending on the consistency you desire. Cover with a lid and cook for 15 mins on a medium flame. Remove, stir well, garnish with cilantro and enjoy.
