The devastating wake of illicit drug use and addiction on the lives of those surrounding those who are afflicted, are catastrophic. Aside from the original threat and risks of recreational drug use, there are now new levels of peril. Such as "substitutions", "dilutions", "contaminations", and "adulterations". The result? Instant morbidity, and/or mortality. Non-sanctioned/non-medical/non-prescribed use of these controlled substances is considered drug abuse. They are likely to create physical or psychological dependency, chronic irreversible illness/symptoms, and/or death. According to the drug statistics website, people aged 12 years and older, have used illicit drugs. Drug use is highest among persons between the ages of 18-25. There have been approximately one million overdose deaths since 2000, and over 96,000 deaths in 2024 alone. The fact that this song was written in the summer of '82, and received BMI clearance on October the 22nd in 1984, and is still applicable to the American story today, is shocking and should heighten the concern of every single member of our communities! He packed up his pick-up and put his foot to the floor, and said, "Texas won't Tennessee Me No More". Philip packed up everything he had, everything he had he was able to pack. Packed and loaded, he put his foot to the floor and headed toward the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Usually stopping at every other Stuckey's or Shell Fuel Stop exit, off of the 30 to 40 corridors. Writing down lyric after lyric manifesting, while driving, to his new and rose-colored destination! Everyone experiences moments in their life where they feel they may need drastic changes or upheavals. Significant revisions needed to redirect their trajectory, or remove themselves from unpredictable, possibly hazardous surroundings, or a mindset. Hoping to reform their mindset with a newer, fresher, and more promising positive outlook and environment to thrive in. Eliminating any potential risks and/or threats that once may have casted a sense of gloom or doom upon us. He says this song idea manifested when he and his other original Unknown Outlaw and friend, Mike Foster, went to check on one of their mutual close friend's widow. A month after she lost her husband, and their daughter, in a tragic car accident in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX area. It was evident when they pulled up to their house it was already in a state of array and deteriorating. It was in an affluent neighborhood, yet the grass had not been mowed, in weeks. Newspapers were all piling up in the yard. The house looked deserted. She invited them in the house. The contents of the house are described in the song. When they were making their leave and driving away, Philip commented to his co-writer on this song Mike Foster, "Man, this house is just a storehouse for pain." "Cry Baby Holler" is a song idea that originally came from Philip Adams' friend Merle Kilgore. Merle is in the song writing Hall of Fame, co-wrote, "Ring of Fire" with June Carter (back when June and Johnny were falling in love), and he was Hank Williams Jr.'s manager. Back then, Rosey Carter (June's daughter) was Philip's wife, and they first heard about the song from a friend known as Poo Bah, (Don Mealer). Philip was intrigued with the song and visioned a different story behind it. Rosey naturally wanted to hear his version, so she put him up to the challenge of writing and producing it. Rosey always called Philip a "word smith". They spent hours writing songs together and helped many other songwriters polish out some of their songs. Bob House's contributions to this song incorporate the storyline of a dancer in the lyrics. Bob must have loved writing songs about dancing, because he also wrote Anne Murray's hit song, "Can I Have This Dance". This song was originally inspired during a visit Rosey and Philip made to their friend Tommy Robert's home. Tommy's daughter was then 6 years old. She told Philip and Rosey that when she grew up, she was going to be a big star just like Rosey one day. Philip told her, "You got big dreams little girl!" The minute those words came out of Philip's mouth, he knew he had a great hook for song. Philip chewed on it in his head for a while. Then one day during a songwriting session at Rosey and Philip's house, while Bob House was present in the round, the sweetest inspirational song for little girls was born! Rosey's performance on this recording is felt with a strong emotional dramatic appeal that makes you just want to reach right out your arms and give that little dancing girl with "Big Dreams" a big hug!!!
