Video Shows Struggle Before Deputy Shoots Derrick Kittling After a Traffic Stop
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Alexandria, Louisiana — On Sunday, November 6, 2022, at approximately 2:15 pm, Detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office (RPSO) to investigate a deputy-involved shooting. The shooting incident involved a RPSO Deputy and resulted in the death of 45-year-old Derrick J. Kittling of Alexandria.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 1:30 pm afternoon, a RPSO Deputy conducted a traffic stop on 7th Street near Broadway Avenue in Alexandria. During the course of the traffic stop, a physical confrontation occurred between the Deputy and Kittling during which Kittling gained control of the Deputy’s Taser. As the physical struggle ensued, the Deputy discharged his duty weapon striking Kittling. Kittling was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Kittling’s brother is a high-ranking official in Louisiana State Police Department (Lt. Colonel Kenny VanBuren), whose official bio describes him as “a 31-year veteran with Louisiana State Police and currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent of the Bureau of Investigations.” Specifically, VanBuren “is responsible for the investigation of criminal activity, intelligence gathering, and case and technical support in the State of Louisiana.” Kittling’s family has retained the legal services of civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who called for all “video evidence” to be made public in order to find out what happened.

Bodycam Shows Fairfield Police Shooting Man Who Pointed a BB Gun at Officer
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Fairfield, California — On August 22, 2022, at around 1:50 p.m., Fairfield Police Officers were called by a citizen to the 100 block of Commerce Court, regarding a person possibly loitering and setting up camp. Two officers contacted the man, 43-year-old Robert Wilson. Wilson was known to officers after they had several past contacts with him, and he has had multiple arrests in previous years. When officers attempted to arrest Wilson, he was uncooperative and sped away in his vehicle. At least one of the tires was flattened when he fled, and the vehicle became disabled and stopped. Wilson immediately fled on foot from the vehicle and, while being chased by officers, pulled a handgun and pointed it at them. The video shows Officer Neal yell, “Drop it! Drop it!” before firing three times. Wilson was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the incident. Wilson had a total of five (5) guns on his person, which turned out to be BB guns. A sixth gun was located in his vehicle.

Nashville Police Officers Shot Man Who Charged at Them With a Knife
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Nashville, Tennessee — On November 12, 2022, the Metro Nashville Police Department dispatch received several calls between 4:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, regarding a man who was walking along River Road Pike and swinging tree branches at passing cars. Officials say six minutes after the last 911 call was made, Officer Ryan Thomas and Officer Cameron Vandermerwe arrived on scene and approached 64-year-old Drandon John Brown, who was walking along the roadway. Officers asked Brown what he was doing, and he told them he had "a right to walk this street" and that he hadn't had "a drop" of alcohol. After the officers asked him again what he is doing, Brown became agitated. Much of what he said to police is difficult to understand, but he eventually started walking away from them down the road, declaring he was "walking with God."
One of the officers then asked Brown if he could talk to him. Brown said "no," telling the officers they have nothing to say to him. As Brown talked, Thomas can be heard asking Vendermerwe, "You ready?" In response, Brown turned to face both officers, declaring “I’ll take both of you.” He then pulled what appeared to be a knife out of his jacket, prompting both officers to yell “put it down!” Brown then started walking away from the officers before Vendermerwe deployed his taser. The taser did not appear to work, and Brown charged Vendermerwe with the knife in his hand. Three shots can then be heard as the officers shot Brown. They rendered aid, but Brown died at the scene, police said. This is the second time in less than 24 hours MNPD has been involved in a deadly shooting. According to MNPD, in the first instance, three Metro Police officers fired at a man after he entered a closed crime scene and started shooting at them (https://youtu.be/OCVKPVTyMak).

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Los Angeles, California — On October 11, 2022 around 3:30 a.m., Harbor Patrol officers were conducting extra patrol in the area of North Banning Boulevard and East E Street. They observed a blue, GMC, pick-up truck south of their location. The vehicle accelerated and collided with a tree located on the traffic medium on East E Street. The officers responded to the site of the traffic collision to investigate. As they deployed to the scene of the collision, they observed that the vehicle was empty, and its occupant had fled. Upon broadcasting the vehicle license plate information, officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen. After a brief search of the area, officers located the suspect, 41-year-old Jason Sanderson, hiding in some nearby bushes. A foot pursuit ensued in which Sanderson was chased from East E Street onto northbound Quay Avenue. At the end of the foot pursuit Sanderson pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the pursuing officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Bunnell, Florida — A 19-year-old Georgia man is under arrest after brutally murdering a family member and battering another early Wednesday morning. Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Clermont Court in Palm Coast at approximately 2:56am on Wednesday after a 911 caller advised that a man had shown up at her front door claiming that he had been attacked and needed help. Upon arrival, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made contact with a subject who advised that he had been attacked by a family member. The victim advised that he believed the suspect had also attacked a second family member within the residence. Deputies then responded to the location where the attacks occurred and located the suspect standing near what appeared to be a severely injured or deceased male. The suspect was standing next to a blunt object which appeared to have been used in the attack.
Deputies ordered the suspect out of the residence, which he did, but then refused to comply further with Deputies. The suspect physically resisted arrest and was tased by Deputies and eventually detained so fire/rescue personnel could safely enter the residence to render medical aid to the victim. The victim was pronounced deceased at 3:24am by paramedics from significant blunt force trauma. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit was called to the scene and began to investigate the disturbance as a homicide. The Major Case Unit was assisted by the Community Policing Division, Real Time Crime Center, Digital Forensics Unit, FCSO Crime Scene Investigation, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Medical Examiner’s Office, and the 7th Circuit State Attorney’s Office Homicide Investigation Unit. The suspect was transported to the Flagler County Courthouse to get a better understanding of what had occurred at the residence.
After several brief interactions with detectives, the suspect attempted to escape by pulling his handcuffed arms through his legs and attacking FCSO Major Case Detectives and Uniformed Deputies present. After a significant struggle and multiple taser deployments, he was again subdued and transported to AdventHealth-Palm Coast for medical clearance before being taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. One Major Case Detective was treated at Advent Health-Palm Coast with non-life-threatening injuries. The Detective was treated and released and is expected to make a full recovery. Luke Ingram, of Dunwoody, GA, was arrested for Second Degree Murder, Domestic Violence Battery by Strangulation, Resisting Without Violence, Resisting With violence and Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. He is currently being held on no bond. Sacramento Deputies Fatally Shoot Man Holding His Girlfriend Hostage
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Sacramento, California — On October 18, 2022, at 10:10 A.M., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from an adult female residing in the 3900 block of 41st Street who stated her father, 55-year-old Vincent Martinez, has just assaulted his girlfriend and threatened the caller, her boyfriend, and her 3-year-old child—also his grandchild—with a shotgun after accusing her of calling 9-1-1. All three of them were able to escape the residence leaving her dad and dad’s girlfriend inside. Deputies were dispatched to the call at 10:11 A.M. While en route, a deputy contacted the reporting party via telephone to gather more information. The reporting party advised that after returning home from taking her older child to school, she was awakened by arguing between her father and his girlfriend. His girlfriend was crying loudly so she thought her dad hit her. She stated that her dad was likely intoxicated and under the influence of methamphetamines. Upon arrival, deputies staged nearby the dispatched location and requested our dispatch center conduct a criminal history search on Martinez. Deputies learned he was prohibited from carrying a firearm, he had no mental health history and there had been no calls for service at the address within the past year. Deputies contacted the Martinez’s girlfriend via telephone. She confirmed that Martinez was with her inside the residence armed with a shotgun and would not allow her to leave. Deputies could hear Martinez in the background yelling and demanding cigarettes.
The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail and Critical Incident Negotiations Team were requested and arrived a short time later. They set up in front of the residence and began evacuating adjacent apartments. Deputies also contacted Martinez’s daughter who related that she was on the phone with her father and he was threatening to shoot his girlfriend. At that time, the negotiators used her phone to continue communications with Martinez. Martinez was very agitated and threatened to kill his girlfriend several times. He indicated that he would shoot his girlfriend in five minutes and then in three minutes if officers didn’t send an unidentified male into the residence. At one point, Martinez told officers that he could see them and could kill them at any time. He insisted that he planned on “shooting it out” with law enforcement. A short time later, Martinez opened the door and stepped out of his residence holding a shotgun in his right hand and guiding his girlfriend out as a shield. Due to concern for the victim’s and deputies’ safety, two deputies fired their duty weapons striking Martinez causing him to fall to the ground. Officers rescued the victim, brought her to safety and immediately rendered medical aid to Martinez. Martinez was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two deputies are a 13 and 7.5-year veterans of law enforcement and members of the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail. Martinez had an extensive criminal history. No deputies or civilians sustained any injuries as a result of this incident.

Baltimore Cop Shoots Man Holding a Woman at Knifepoint
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Baltimore, Maryland — On November 6, 2022, at approximately 3:40 p.m., officers responded to a call for a man (Tyree Moorehead), armed with a knife, assaulting a woman on the ground near the intersection of West Lafayette Avenue and North Fulton Avenue. The video shows the officer, identified as Zachary Rutherford, pulling up to the scene in West Baltimore, where he sees Moorehead on top of a woman and holding a large butcher knife at her head. Rutherford screams "drop the knife" but Moorehead continues to straddle the woman on the pavement. Rutherford then fires his weapon multiple times at close range.
As Rutherford fires his weapons, the woman rolls away to safety. She was not shot or stabbed, police said. A second video from another officer, Officer trainee Michael Hazel, shows officers rendering medical aid to Moorehead. He was taken to the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center, where he later died. Baltimore Police Department Commissioner Michael Harrison said the attack appeared to be random. The woman said she was running errands when she was attacked by Moorehead around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1800 block of Lafayette Avenue. Tyree Moorehead, was the creator of the city's "no shoot zones." As an activist, he spray-painted that message across the face of Baltimore—from block to block and from neighborhood to neighborhood.

Austin Officers Shoot Suspect Who Fired at Them While Hiding Inside The Restaurant Patio Area
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Austin, Texas — On Sunday, October 23, 2022, at approximately 9:26 p.m., Austin 9-1-1 Communications received a call regarding a man with a gun at the Aubry Hills apartment complex located at 8926 North Lamar Boulevard. The caller reported the man walked towards him with a gun and displayed the gun in a “threatening manner.” The caller remained on the phone line with Austin 9-1-1 Communications while officers responded to the scene. The man was later identified as 42-year-old Emeka Onyeabo Williams. At 9:34 p.m., the first officers began arriving on scene. With the information provided by the caller, they began to look for Williams. Officers were unable to locate him in the apartment complex. The caller told Austin 9-1-1 Communications Williams was last observed traveling northbound in the direction of a mobile phone store. Officers began to search the immediate area of the 9200 and 9300 blocks of North Lamar Boulevard for Williams. At approximately 9:40 p.m., officers located Williams, who matched the description provided by the 9-1-1 caller, inside Mariscos Los Jarochos a restaurant located at 9200 North Lamar Boulevard.
Williams was located in the enclosed patio area. The restaurant has a covered patio front entryway surrounded in plexiglass. One officer began giving commands to Williams over the public address (PA) system in their police vehicle. The officer, while giving commands, described the white shirt Williams was wearing to indicate exactly who he (the officer) was speaking to. Repeated announcements and commands were made by the officer on the PA system to Williams. These announcements included identifying the presence of the Austin Police Department, that officers knew Williams was armed, and instructions to come out with his hands up. There were several fully marked police vehicles in the parking lot with red and blue lights activated. There was a police presence at the front and side of the restaurant. Attempts to call and evacuate the restaurant were made as several civilians were inside. For several minutes, officers gave verbal commands to Williams; however, Williams did not comply with the commands.
Officers alerted employees and patrons inside the restaurant and were able to move some to safety. APD officers positioned themselves in an area close enough to see that Williams was armed with a handgun and so they could see his movements. Williams crouched down in between two rock pillars in the covered patio of the restaurant, approximately 8-10 feet from the front entryway. At the time Williams was concealed in the patio area, another man not related to the 9-1-1 call, was also in the front enclosed patio area of the restaurant near Williams. At 10:19 p.m., Williams began to fire shots from inside the restaurant patio. Officers ran towards the gunfire to the patio entryway. After the initial shots were fired by Williams from inside the restaurant patio, he remained in his position between the two stone pillars. The man, who was still on the patio and in close proximity to Williams who was firing the handgun, squatted down to the ground. Officers entered the plexiglass patio area. Several fully uniformed officers encountered Williams on the patio.
Williams fired at the officers. Five officers: Detective Donald Petraitis, Officer Ashley Uniszkiewicz, Officer James Bronson, Officer Kamowa Reynolds, and Officer David Lara, discharged their Department approved weapons towards him, striking Williams several times. After the officers discharged their weapons towards Williams, he went to the ground, and officers observed a handgun in front of him. The officers gave verbal commands to Williams to not reach for the handgun. The officers were able to safely secure the handgun, and immediately began life-saving measures. Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) arrived on scene and continued life-saving measures. ATCEMS transported Williams to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. Civilians and officers on scene did not sustain physical injuries. Williams has been charged with the offense of Attempted Capital Murder - 1st Degree Felony. Williams has also been charged with the offense of Deadly Conduct, 3rd Degree Felony, for recklessly discharging a firearm, placing a man who was approximately 10-12 feet away, in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.

As his right hand came into view, the officer could see Arres was holding a handgun in his right hand. Arres was looking directly at the officer. Instead of immediately dropping the handgun, Arres again concealed the handgun behind his right leg.
The officer's visual of the handgun was obstructed by Arres right leg and the door jamb. In approximately ¾ of a second Arres rapidly removed his now empty right hand from the concealed position and began to move it upward. Believing Arres was still armed with the handgun, the officer discharged his firearm at Arres. The officer fired one round from his duty handgun. After Arres was taken into custody, officers located a loaded 9mm handgun on the floor directly inside of the apartment door where Arres was last seen holding the handgun. The time between Arres opening the door with the handgun in his right hand and the officer firing one round was less than three seconds. The handgun was a 9mm unregistered and unserialized polymer 80. The handgun was loaded with 1 round in the chamber and 5 rounds in the magazine. Arres was not struck by gunfire and did not sustain any injuries. During the statement to detectives, Arres admitted to knowing the officers were police officers upon opening the apartment door. Arres was arrested for 2 felony handgun violations and was booked into custody at the Cois Byrd Detention Center.

Chicago Cop Fatally Shoots Man Who Fired Gun During Chase in Old Town
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Chicago, Illinois — On October 2, 2022, at about 5:00 a.m., a man flagged down an officer on patrol in the 400 block of West Blackhawk Street. The man said someone just pointed a gun at them. Shortly thereafter, officers identified the individual described (20-year-old Antonio Calmese Jr.) and began to pursue him on foot. After officers engaged Calmese, officer Jarron Jefferson, 34, deployed his taser twice, but did not appear to make contact with Calmese. Then, before turning a corner into another alley, Calmese fired what appeared to be one shot in the direction of the officer. Jefferson ran to the corner and fired what appeared to be seven rounds toward Calmese, then another four shots. He took cover behind the corner of a building and then fired another seven rounds at Calmese, who did not appear to fire back and dropped to the ground. Fire officials arrived to render aid about eight minutes after the shooting. A handgun and shell casings that didn’t match the officer’s weapon were recovered near Calmese. Calmese was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jefferson, who wasn’t shot, was treated for injuries at the same hospital.

Wanted Suspect Gets Shot After Refusing Officers’ Commands To Drop The Gun
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Elk Grove, California — On October 11, 2022 shortly after 12:00 p.m., Sacramento Police Department detectives responded to an apartment complex in the 6800 block of Di Lusso Drive in Elk Grove in an attempt to locate Terry Sharp who had a felony arrest warrant and was the suspect in a June 2022 Sacramento assault investigation related to a possible bias incident. The involved detectives were assigned to the Sacramento Police Department’s Career Criminal Apprehension Team (CCAT) who has the primary responsibility of locating and apprehending individuals wanted for serious felony crimes. Detectives assigned to this team work in a plain-clothes capacity and drive unmarked vehicles equipped with emergency lights and sirens. Around 12:10 p.m., detectives observed Sharp in the complex and attempted to arrest him. Prior to contacting Sharp, each of the detectives put on their marked police ballistic vests and at least two detectives activated the red and blue police lights on their vehicles.
Immediately after the detectives exited their vehicles, they verbally identified themselves as police and ordered Sharp to drop the firearm he was holding. Sharp then began manipulating the firearm he was holding as he continued to disregard officers’ commands. During this time, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Immediately following the shooting, the detectives coordinated a plan to safely approach Sharp and administer emergency medical aid, which included the application of multiple chest seals and attempts to slow bleeding. The detectives provided aid until fire crews arrived and transported him to the hospital with serious injuries that he was expected to survive. A loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered from the immediate area where Sharp was taken into custody. The gun was jammed when it was recovered at the scene. Sharp faces charges of assault with a gun on a peace officer and being a felon in possession of a gun. He also was being held in connection to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department criminal case.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — On October 16, 2022, at 2:25 p.m., Oklahoma City Police were called to a disturbance at 1316 SW 25th St. Responding officers were confronted by a man (Sergio Gruver) in front of the residence, wielding a knife. Gruver moved toward the officers with the knife and was ordered to drop the weapon. He refused the officers’ commands, and a Taser was deployed twice, with no effect. Rochester Police Officer Shoots Suspect Who Charged at Him With an Axe
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Rochester, Minnesota — On July 29, 2022, at approximately 10:59 p.m., Officer Bottcher responded to a call at a Domino’s Pizza in Rochester. The report indicated a man with an axe robbed the Dominos and fled in a white van with out of state license plates and a ladder rack. Witnesses described the plates as having a light blue background and mountains. The suspect was described as a white male with panty hose over his face. The axe was reported to have a blue handle. Statements were obtained from the witnesses and Officer Bottcher finished his investigation at the scene. He cleared and went to write up reports from the incident. Approximately two hours after the robbery Officer Bottcher observed a van matching the description pass by him traveling southbound on Broadway. Officer Bottcher pulled out to catch up to the van to see if the plates matched the description given at the scene of the robbery. He did not have his lights or sirens activated. Near the 2800 block of Broadway Avenue South Officer Bottcher was able to see that the plates matched the description of those from the robbery. He did not activate his emergency lights and sirens at that time but did notify dispatch that he was possibly following a robbery suspect.
Officer Bottcher did not want to stop the vehicle until another officer was present because of the witness reports that the suspect was armed with an axe. The van began driving on the shoulder of the road. The driver made it appear that he was going onto the Hwy 52 northbound ramp but instead swerved back onto Hwy 63 southbound. The van then veered onto the Hwy 52 southbound ramp. Officer Bottcher confirmed the plate and notified dispatch that the driver knew he was behind him. The van merged onto Hwy 52 southbound and drove below the speed limit for a short distance. The van came to a stop and then made a U turn, so it was going the wrong way on the Hwy 52 southbound ramp. Due to the danger of a head on collision with oncoming traffic, Officer Bottcher activated his emergency lights and sirens. The van stopped in the middle of the road going the wrong way on the southbound ramp from Highway 63 to Highway 52. Officer Bottcher stopped his vehicle and observed the van door open. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Joshua C. Hippler, jumped out and began advancing toward Officer Bottcher. Hippler had an axe in his hand and was swinging it.
Officer Bottcher pulled his handgun and repeatedly ordered Hippler to drop the axe and to get back into the vehicle. Hippler continued to advance toward Bottcher. Hippler was yelling that Officer Bottcher should kill him. Officer Bottcher retreated backwards to get some distance between himself and Hippler, while repeatedly commanding Hippler to drop the axe. Hippler began zig zagging toward Officer Bottcher, swinging the axe and yelling at Officer Bottcher to kill him. Officer Bottcher continued to walk backwards and give commands for Hippler to drop the axe. Officer Bottcher had retreated away from his squad car and was able to see a civilian vehicle approaching from the South. Officer Bottcher was in fear for his own safety and the safety of the approaching civilians and other officers. He fired one shot at Hippler. Officer Bottcher paused his fire. It appeared as though the shot hit Hippler but he continued to advance and refused to drop the axe. He yelled for Officer Bottcher to “finish it.” As Hippler continued to advance toward him swinging the axe Officer Bottcher fired approximately five additional shots. Hippler fell to the ground but held on to the axe. Almost immediately other officers were on the scene. They secured the van, cleared the axe from Hippler and began rendering medical assistance to him. The ambulance arrived and took Hippler to the Mayo Clinic ER where he died as a result of his gunshot wounds.

St. Lucie County Deputy Shoots Man With Gun Instead Of Taser
* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Fort Pierce, Florida — On September 6, 2022, around 4:19 pm, a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Deputy responded to a report of a despondent man on the bridge. Deputy Cortney Hoyt’s body camera video shows Dylan De Reivera threatening to jump off the North Causeway Bridge. Hoyt spent several minutes talking to De Reivera before he jumped onto a lower platform and took off running. Deputy Hoyt said that’s when she spotted him taking something from his pocket. Investigators said it was a knife. Deputy Hoyt eventually caught up with De Reivera in her patrol car, and she had backup.
Deputy Jorge Mendez, arrived to find De Reivera walking along the sidewalk and ordered him to the ground, which he ignored. De Reivera continued to ignore the commands while walking toward the deputy. Deputy Mendez backed away from De Reivera and fired his Taser at De Reivera. The first shock sent De Reivera to the ground. For the next 30 seconds, De Reivera struggled with deputies as they tried to put him in handcuffs. He removed the probes from the Taser, and during the struggle, he picked up the Taser that belonged to Deputy Mendez. Deputy Hoyt told her fellow deputy to back up and charge his Taser. De Reivera got back on his feet and ran in the general direction of motorists.
Deputy Hoyt drew her firearm and shot De Reivera in the upper leg. The gunshot didn't stop De Reivera as he continued to run away from deputies but is quickly apprehended by other officers. He was arrested on charges including resisting officer with violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a law enforcement officer. The State Attorney’s investigation concluded that Hoyt thought she was firing her taser, not her gun. Therefore, they have recommended Hoyt not be charged with a crime. The sheriff's office said Hoyt joined as a trainee in 2019 and has never had disciplinary issues. The sheriff, however, determined that Hoyt violated department policies and suspended her. She is required to undergo remedial training. De Reivera is expected to make a full recovery.
