However, they are prone to dental problems because their front teeth grow consistently throughout life. If hamsters dont wear down their teeth enough, the teeth can become overgrown, infected, and painful. In order to keep your hamsters teeth healthy, you should give them preventative care, be on the lookout for signs of infection, and get your pet dental care if a problem occurs

What is THERAPY DOG? What does THERAPY DOG mean?
What is THERAPY DOG? What does THERAPY DOG mean? THERAPY DOG meaning - THERAPY DOG definition - THERAPY DOG explanation.
Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... license.
A therapy dog is a dog that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, hospices, disaster areas, and to people with autism.
Therapy dogs are usually not assistance or service dogs, but can be one or both with some organizations..
In the U.S., therapy dogs are not service animals and are not afforded the same privileges as them.
The systematic use of therapy dogs is attributed to Elaine Smith, who worked as a registered nurse. Smith noticed how well patients responded to visits by a chaplain and his Golden Retriever. In 1976, Smith started a program for training dogs to visit institutions, and the demand for therapy dogs continued to grow. In recent years, therapy dogs have been enlisted to help children overcome speech and emotional disorders.
Therapy dogs are usually not assistance or service dogs, but can be one or both with some organizations. Therapy dogs are not trained to assist specific individuals and do not qualify as service dogs under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Institutions may invite, limit, or prohibit access by therapy dogs. If allowed, many institutions have rigorous requirements for therapy dogs. United States-based Therapy Dogs International (TDI) bans the use of service dogs in their therapy dog program. Service dogs perform tasks for persons with disabilities and have a legal right to accompany their owners in most areas. In the United States, service dogs are legally protected at the federal level by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Many organizations provide evaluation and registration for therapy dogs. In the United States, some organizations require that a dog pass the equivalent of the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen test and then add further requirements specific to the environments in which the dogs will be working. Other organizations have their own testing requirements. Typical tests might ensure that a dog can handle sudden loud or strange noises; can walk on assorted unfamiliar surfaces comfortably; are not frightened by people with canes, wheelchairs, or unusual styles of walking or moving; get along well with children and with the elderly; and so on.
In Canada, St John Ambulance provides therapy dog certification.
In the UK Pets As Therapy (PAT) provides visiting dogs and cats to establishments where pets are otherwise not available.
Some colleges and universities in the US bring therapy dogs to campus to help students de-stress. These campus events are often referred to as "Therapy Fluffies", a term coined by Torrey Trust, the original founder of the UC San Diego therapy dog de-stress event. In 2009, Sharon Franks, shared the idea of bringing therapy dogs to campus with the UC San Diego Office of Student Wellness. Similar events have been held worldwide.
Since the autumn of 2010, “Therapy Fluffies” has visited the UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Riverside campuses during the week before mid-term and final exams. These events give students and staff the opportunity to pet and relax with therapy-certified dogs. The university also works with the Inland Empire Pet Partners, a service of the Humane Society, to bring therapy-certified dogs to the campus’ Mental Health Day Spa, held quarterly.
In 2014, Concordia University, Wisconsin became the first university in the US to adopt a full-time therapy dog to its campus in Mequon, WI. The golden retriever, Zoey, is a Lutheran church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog, trained to interact with people at churches, schools, nursing homes, hospitals, events, and in disaster response situations.

10 Signs Your Dog REALLY Trusts You
We often talk about our dogs giving us unconditional love, but building a bond and real trust with your pup takes some time.
Earning a dog’s complete trust isn’t as simple as giving out a few treats and belly rubs, especially if your pooch has had some negative experience with humans in the past.
In this video, you’ll learn 10 signs that shows your dog really trusts you and shares a strong bond with you.
Handing you their toy as a ‘present’
One of the cutest things that dogs do when they trust you is give you toys, bones, or any random thing as a gift.
You may have no interest in your pup's tattered tennis ball, but their willingness to share it with you is a sign of true affection.
This is because most dogs are possessive of their belongings. When your dog offers to share something with you, like a toy or bone, they’re signaling that they feel fully comfortable with you.
Plus, studies have shown that dogs are more likely to share food with other four-legged friends rather than with strangers.
They sleep in your room
Typically, dogs sleep in a place where they feel comfortable. So sleeping in their owner’s room is certainly an indication of comfort. Wolves and wild dogs purposefully sleep in small, confined areas with pack members they trust to protect against predators.
Our dogs think that we are in their pack, and feel like they can count on us to protect them in the face of a danger.
So, if your dogs want to sleep with you, it means they see you as a trusted fellow pack member.
Their eyes say it all
If you and your dog can gaze lovingly into each other’s eyes, it’s a sign your dog trusts you and understands you.
Plus, scientists have shown that dogs develop strong emotional bonds with humans by staring into our eyes.
They Listen
Some people think training a dog is all about the dog, but it’s actually about the bond shared on both ends of the leash. If a dog doesn’t trust their owner, they are less likely to respond well to training.
Your dog doesn’t panic when you leave home
Dogs who freak out when they are left alone, may fear they are left alone forever, that their human is never coming back. This can manifest in your dog crying, whining, scratching at the door and misbehaving. Sometimes this means they want to join in on the fun they’re missing out on, but it could also mean they’re not completely confident that the people they love are coming back.
If your dog fully trusts you, they won’t doubt that you’ll eventually be back for belly rubs and playtime. They will wait patiently for you to finish up whatever business you have to do, and they will be at the door ready to greet you when you get home.
They are Confident and Relaxed Around You
Dogs that trust their owner will display a confident and relaxed body posture. They keep their mouths slightly open, blink their eyes often, and their tails are either wagging or perky and loose. This type of body language indicates your dog is confident around you and isn’t worried or scared. Your doggo trusts you to keep things under control and protect them if needed.
They follow your lead
The results of a 2013 study showed that dogs that have a strong bond with their owners behave similarly to that of human children with their parents. Dogs will look to their owners when they’re uncertain. They get distressed when they are put in an unfamiliar situation
Likewise, bonded dogs tend to have a strong recall response. They will make sure their human is close by in new, unfamiliar situations, and they are far less likely to run away.
They put their paw on you
If your dog puts his paw on you, it can be his way of saying “I love you.” We pet our pups to show our love and affection. By putting his paw on you whilst you are stroking him, he is further extending contact and reciprocating affection back
They check on you.
Watching TV, cooking, bathroom visits — your canine is there through it all — or at least they try to be. They’re not following you around the house because they think you may disappear, they do it because they love you and want to keep you safe. Checking up on you is just one way your dog shows affection.
They show you their belly
A dog’s belly is the most vulnerable part of their body. It’s instinctual for dogs to protect their vital organs. When they roll onto their backs or sleep on their side, they’re doing the exact opposite. Your dog showing you their belly is a sure sign they feel safe when you’re around. They are not worried that you’ll sink your jaws into their exposed abdomen, and they’re fairly confident you’ll protect them if something jumps out suddenly to attack them.

What Your Dog's Sleeping Position Reveals About Their Personality, Health and Character
Dogs’ Sleeping Positions can reveal a lot about their personality, health and how they are feeling. Here is what dog sleeping positions mean.
This guide breaks down the most common dog sleeping positions and explains the science behind why dogs sleep in certain ways.
• The Donut or Curled-up
Does your dog like to tuck its paws beneath itself and curl up so that its head rests on its tail? Good, this is referred to as the Donut or Fuzzy Bagel position. This resting position means that your dog might be trying to conserve body heat and provide protection to the fundamental parts of its body. It’s the most common sleeping position for animals in the wild, too, as it helps conserve warmth and protects the vital organs.
Dogs typically sleep in this position in winter or fall when they are cold. But don’t worry, many happy dogs sleep this way! It’s just an incredibly comfortable, warm way for them to sleep.
• On the back or Crazy Legs
This is one of the most adorable and at the same time weird sleeping positions common to dogs which will leave you surprised at most times.
If you spot your dog lying on its back and stretching out its leg at particular angles, this is an indication that it is confident and relaxed with its surroundings. Exposing its belly will tell you that it is submissive and vulnerable. The legs stretched at a certain angle is a sign that your dog trusts you and sees your home as its own.
On the other hand, this position might show that the dog is feeling hot and they adopt this position to quickly cool down. Dogs’ belly has thinner fur and the paws hold the sweat glands. So this sleeping position is the best way to beat the heat.
Dogs who prefer this kind of sleeping position are viewed as independent with a calm nature.
• Back-to-Back or The Cuddle Bug
If your dog is cuddling up with you, or you notice him sleeping back-to-back with the other dogs in your house, there is a simple reason for that.
The tendency that many dogs need to cuddle when they sleep is a holdover from when they were puppies. This also has to do with the body heat, since puppies have difficulty regulating their body temperature. As the dogs mature, sleeping back to back becomes a sort of habit from puppyhood.
If your dog is cuddling up with you, it is an instinctual way for a dog to show that you are like one of the other dogs and they trust you.
• Superman
This is another funny sleeping position that will leave you perplexed and bring a warm smile to your face. In this position, the dog is seen to sleep on its stomach with its limb stretched out forward. What comes to your mind when you spot your dog in this position is the image of a superman. Pretty cool, huh?
However, this position does not come without meaning as it is quite easy for the dog to get up on its feet. Therefore, you can only spot your dog in this position when it is taking a nap. You cannot see it sleeping like this at night.
Also, this position is an indication that your dog is in the mood to play and would give you a good time if you are willing to have a bit of fun. You wouldn't want to deprive your dog of the fun in moments like this, right?
• Side Sleeping
If your dog adopts this kind of sleeping position, it is an indication that it has no worries. It is relaxed and comfortable in the surrounding it occupies and no uncertainty about it.
The kind of dogs that adopt a side sleeping position are the ones that are affectionate and share a close bond with their owners.
• The Lion Pose
In this position, the muscles of the dog are tense and contracted and this actually prevents it from falling into a deep sleep. Therefore, this is a sleeping position adopted by a dog to relieve itself of stress and be comfortable.
They get into this position sometimes when they have a considerable amount of energy and they don't feel like sleeping. They would prefer staying in a resting position where they can easily get up and play.
• Laying on your clothes
If your dog sleeps on your clothes, it means it loves you. Your clothing has your scent on it and dogs always want to feel closer to you.
• Circling and Digging
It is usual for dogs to circle in the area where they sleep and even do a little digging before they eventually doze off. From the inception, dogs are known to trample down the grass in order to acquire optimal comfort as possible. They might also dig in order to keep themselves warm.

9 Ways to Tell Your Dog You Love Them
9 ways to prove your dog you loved them.
Here is how you to say "I love you" in dog language.
You absolutely love your dog, and you’re not afraid to show it. But all the toys, comfy beds, treats, and fancy collars can’t let your pet know just how special they are to you.
In this video, we’ll show you 9 ways to tell your dog you love them in language they’re sure to understand
#1. Put down your phone when you walk into the house.
Your dog needs some face-to-face interaction with you when you come home.
This is because they don’t know what a cell phone is. But they do know they don’t want to compete with it.
That’s why the first way to tell your dog you love them is to give them your full attention when you walk in the door.
Oftentimes when we are with our dogs, we are staring at our phone at the same time. Whether you’re on a walk around the block or snuggling on the couch, it’s best to give 100 percent of your attention to your pet.
#2. Respect your dog’s nature.
Many dog owners discourage their dogs from certain inherent behaviors such as eating dirt, sniffing urine and sniffing each other from behind. In these situations, we are not caring for our furry friends, but preventing them from their own nature. This can cause anxiety and confusion.
It is important that you love your dog for who they are.
#3. Rub their ears
Dog experts say that the ears of a dog are one of three nerve centers in their bodies. When you rub a dog behind the ears, a sense of pleasure goes through their entire body. This is extremely relaxing. Just like when you rub their belly – another part of your dog that has extremely sensitive nerve endings.
That’s why when you rub the ears of your dog or rub their belly, they close their eyes and drift off into doggie heaven.
The other nerve center for a dog’s pleasure is between its toes!
#4. Lean in when you talk to them
The best way to tell your dog you love them is to lean into them - and then let them lean into you.
Even though it’s tempting, full-body hugs aren’t good for dogs. A hug is usually threatening or unwelcome to them, especially if they feel trapped.
Leaning into a dog and then letting them lean into you is a much better way to bond.
Displays of affection like this are often overlooked and confused with other behaviors, so don’t ignore their hugs. Lean back on them for a moment, and let them know you love them too.
Don’t push them away or crush them. Just the right amount of lean will demonstrate that you trust them.
#5. Look into their eyes
According to researchers at Duke University, you should make eye contact with your dog when you are cuddling with them.
Studies have shown that making eye contact while cuddling with your dog releases a hormone in them known as oxytocin.
Oxytocin, also known as the love hormone, literally bonds you with your dog like a mother and baby.
So the next time you and your dog are snuggling – look them right in the eye.
#6. Prepare their favorite food.
Feeding and love go together perfectly when it comes to showing your dog you love them. So it should be no surprise that if you make a special dish for your dog, they will love you for it. And this doesn’t mean feeding them table scraps, which can eventually harm your dog’s health.
Or feeding them too many treats, which can also make them overweight.
Preparing a meal for your best friend is also a great way to tell them that you love them too.
#7. Raise your eyebrows when you see your dog.
This one that comes from Japanese behavioral scientists.
They explain in their research that when a dog raises their eyebrows and sticks out their tongue, they are relaxed and happy.
Scientific studies have shown that dogs can differentiate between human emotions from facial expressions. You can try to hide your feelings, but your dog can read your emotions from what’s written on your face.
So greeting your dog at the door with raised eyebrows and a relaxed smile shows your canine how happy you are to see them.
#8. Talk to your dog using your dog voice
A study published in the journal of Science found that dogs understand a little bit more about human speech than we think.
Believe it or not, when scientists studied dogs using an MRI scanner, they found something interesting.
That dogs recognized not only words of praise, but a praising voice as well. So dogs will not only listen to the tone of your voice - but the words of praise at the same time.
So your tone of voice and choice of words are another one of the 9 ways you can literally tell your dog you love them.
#9. Let your dog snuggle with you when you get the chance.
Snuggling is awesome for dogs, but never go in for the big hug because they think you might attack them.
But they do like to cuddle. So whether let them on the couch or into your bed, they like to lie with you and just relax. The close contact brings them closer to you and lets you show them that you love them.

Interpret Dog Tail Wags: How to Understand Dog's Body Language
In this video, we'll explain the meaning of each dog's tail signs.
The position of a dog's tail can reveal a lot about what that dog is thinking and feeling. The speed of the wag, the pattern of movement, and the breadth of each tail sweep can all give information about a dog's intentions and emotions. In this video, we will teach you how to interpret the language of a dog’s tail.
Tail held high and stiff indicates alertness and the desire to display dominance. When dogs are alert, they stand with their tails raised and ears up. This posture means that they are observing carefully and ready to confront whatever caught their attention. This position could also be a display of dominance. In other words, they are showing their role as the dog who rules the world
Tail held straight out means that the dog is taking in new information and is so far responding neutrally. There could be a new canine in the neighborhood, or at the dog park. Your dog is curious and just doesn’t know what to make of them yet.
Tail held between the legs indicates submission or fear. A tucked tail is a sign that your dog is afraid, scared or uncomfortable. They could be in pain, or afraid of something or someone.
Tail wagging to the left
It may be hard to catch, but a dog will wag their tail to the left if they are suspicious of another dog or a person they don’t trust.
Recent studies suggest that a tail wagging to the left indicates negative feelings, fear or stress. Dogs may show this tail wagging behavior in the presence of an unfamiliar, dominant dog.
Tail wagging to the right
It seems a little bit unbelievable, but recent research suggests that tail wagging to the right indicates positive feelings, or that your dog is relaxed. Oftentimes, dogs show this tail wagging behaviour when they see their owner.
Tail held high and wagging indicates the dog is happy but also alert. The dog is cautiously excited but displaying dominance.
The breadth of each tail sweep and the frequency at which a tail moves add further meaning to canine communication.
Fast, Broad Wag: This indicates a friendly, happy dog who is not threatening anyone. You may have brought them a new treat, or maybe you got the leash out for a walk. This is the closest to the popular concept of the happiness wag, especially if the tail seems to drag the hips with it.
Slow, reluctant wag: A slow wag with the tail at half-mast is less social than most other tail signals. Generally speaking, slow wags with the tail in neither a particularly submissive nor a dominant position might indicate a dog who is feeling anxious, less enthusiastic, or insecure.
Quick, short wag: A slight wag, with each swing of only small breadth, usually happens during greetings, when a dog is feeling tentative.
Very tiny, high-speed movements that give the impression of the tail vibrating are signs the dog is about to run, fight, or attack. If the tail is held high while vibrating, it is most likely an active threat.
It’s important to recognize that different breeds carry their tails at different heights. Some dogs, like Beagles, hold their tails vertically. Others like Greyhounds tuck their tails. All tail positions should be read relative to the average and neutral position where that dog normally holds its tail.
A Short Tail
A stubby or curly tail may make it more difficult for dogs to communicate with their owners and with other dogs.
A key component to reading truncated tails is to look at the base of the tail. They still mimic the same signals as those with long tails, but may not be as easily recognizable.
Interestingly enough, recent studies have shown that dogs with tiny tails are twice as likely to have aggressive encounters as dogs with longer tails
While you can understand a lot about your canine companion from their tail signs, it’s important to observe the entire dog and watch out for other tell-tale signs such as posture, facial expressions and body movements. Watch our other videos to learn more about how to understand your dog better.

How to Understand Your Dog Better
How to Understand Your Dog Better: Communication Clues
Just like humans, dogs do get into moods and will try to communicate them to you. But it can be difficult to understand what they are saying just by looking at their body language. The great thing about dogs, and all types of dog breeds, is that they will not fake their emotions and they will try to tell you what’s going on. It’s important that as a dog owner, you learn their communication language and watch out for the tell-tale signs that your dog is giving to you. These communication signs can be broken down based on your dog’s physical body, such as the tail, eyes, ears, face and stance.
• Tail: the tail is one of the easiest communication methods to look out for. When a dog’s tail is lowered but still wagging, it can mean that he or she is playful, excited or that they know you are the one in charge. If the tail is lowered and wagging slowly, it could be that they are waiting for you to tell them what to do so that they understand what is currently happening.
◦ If the tail is raised but tremors, it could be your dog challenging you and your authority. If this happens, it means that the dog feels like they are in charge of the current situation and has authority over you.
◦ The most common and easiest recognizable communication form is when the tail is tucked between the legs. This is a very common sign for the dog being afraid, scared or uncomfortable either in the situation you are currently in or even of you. If you cannot discern what is causing your dog to be uncomfortable, and your dog does this frequently, it is a good idea to take them to the veterinarian.

Basic Cat Training Tips
In today's video, we are going to talk about Basic Cat Training Tips.
The cat is a very independent animal, and many cat owners will tell you that it is this independence that makes the cat such a comfortable companion around the house. Cats are not as demanding of attention as dogs. And, unlike dogs, most cats don't make any particular effort to win your approval, they'll often wait for you to come to them rather than run around trying to catch your eye.
All this means that the cat is a very easy going creature who is polite and self-possessed. But it also means that it can be difficult to train a cat. If you and your cat don't see eye to eye over a certain kind of behavior, you might have a hard time getting him to do things your way. However, don't give up hope, it's not completely impossible to modify your cat's behavior.
Probably the very first training you’ll want to give your cat will be in using the litter box, for very obvious reasons.
Can a cat be trained? The answer is a resounding "Yes!", but it has to be done on feline terms. Everything in this video designed to help you see the world from your cat's perspective, which is an important key to training. You can train a cat to jump through hoops or roll over on command. However, a more valuable training goal is teaching him to stay within the boundaries of acceptable behavior in society.
Litter Box Training.
Training a cat to use a litter box usually isn’t difficult. Cats are generally clean by nature and have a natural inclination to bury their waste. Use these steps to train your cat to start using a litter box.
Place your cat and a clean litter box, the kind without a cover in a confined area, like a room in your house. Be sure your cat has plenty of food and clean water. If your cat ‘goes’ outside of the box, place the waste in the litter box.
Usually, within a day or two of being confined with the litter box, the cat will begin to use the box regularly. If the cat isn’t using the box within a couple of days, try this. After the cat has eaten, place the cat in the litter box and then just scratch the surface of the litter a bit with your fingertip.
If it’s still a no-go, make sure the box is clean. If it’s ever been used before, clean it with baking soda and fill it with clean litter. You can also try several types of litter, sometimes a cat will be fine with one brand and turn up its nose at another brand. Also make sure that the box is located in a quiet, secluded area.
If nothing seems to work, consult your vet. Occasionally an underlying medical problem can be the cause of a cat’s reluctance to use a litter box.
End furniture scratching.
Furniture scratching is a natural feline behavior. They scratch to condition their claws, get exercise, mark territory, and simply because it’s fun. Remember, screaming or hitting doesn’t work. Try these tips instead.
Trim your cat’s claws and re-channel energy toward a scratching post or a cardboard scratching pad. Praise your cat and give her a treat whenever you see her use the scratching post. Make your upholstered furniture less inviting by applying double-sided tape or spraying a cat repellent around the area where your cat scratches.
Behavior Training.
If your cat is doing some things that you’d really prefer it didn’t do, there’s a good chance that you can train that bad behavior away. But first, try to understand why the cat is behaving that way. There’s a reason, and from the cat’s perspective, of course, the behavior is perfectly reasonable.
If the cat is clawing your furniture, for example, it’s driven by instinct to do that. It needs to claw something, it’s a survival instinct. Doesn’t have to be your furniture, but something. So there’s not much chance of getting your cat to stop clawing. But you can train the cat to focus its clawing instinct on acceptable objects, like scratching posts.
Train your cat to behave appropriately by using positive reinforcement, not punishment. Don't hit the cat when it scratches the furniture.
Cat Scratching Post.
Spend time near the post encouraging your cat to interact with it. Play with the cat near the post and incorporate it into your play. The most important step is to reward the cat every time your cat uses the post. Have yummy food treats nearby and give one to the cat whenever you see his scratching the post. Once your cat is using the scratching post you have provided, you can teach him or her that other things are off-limits.

10 Odd Dog Behaviors and What They Actually Mean
Why dogs circle before pooping
By spinning in circles before relieving themselves, your pup is making sure there are no predators like snakes hiding in the grass.
Scent marking their territory is another reason why dogs circle before they eliminate. Dogs have scent glands on their paws. When they’re spinning and stepping all over the grass before doing their business, they are actually leaving messages to other dogs.
Dogs also prefer to poop along the earth’s north-south axis.
Why dogs take your spot
Have you ever gotten up from your seat and returned to see your pup curled up in your spot? Dogs often steal your seat because they enjoy the scent and warmth you leave behind.
Dogs have a pack mentality so they enjoy sleeping in warm piles with their family.
Why dogs lick each other’s private parts
Not only do dogs smell things out of curiosity, they taste and lick things to learn more about their surroundings.
When you see a dog licking another dog’s private parts, they are simply getting to know that other dog.
Dogs also lick each other’s private parts to practice good hygiene with their friend. Grooming is a sign of affection and it indicates the two dogs are getting along and like each other.
This practice is commonly referred to as “dog social grooming”.
Why dogs sleep with open eyes
Some dogs sleep with partially open eyes.
When a dog sleeps with open eyes, what you are actually seeing is their third eyelid, rather than the surface of the eyeball.
This pink-colored membrane sweeps away any dust or debris from the eyes and keeps the eyeball moist.
Why dogs smell people's crotches
The crotch area has certain type of sweat glands called apocrine glands, which produce chemicals that convey social information. These chemicals are called pheromones. Pheromones carry all sorts of information about the age, health, and mood of the individual. When dogs smell a person’s crotch, they are trying to gain information about that person.
Likewise, when a dog sniffs another dog’s behind, they are trying to gain information about the other dog. Dogs have glands in their rear end that release chemicals that tell a lot to other dogs. Unneutered male dogs are particularly known for being avid sniffers when searching for a mate because they want to know if a female is pregnant or ovulating.
Why dogs expose their belly to you or other dogs
Belly-exposing behavior in canines usually indicates trust and acceptance.
A dog may also use this submissive display as a way to avoid confrontation. In the wild, our canines' wolf ancestors would adopt this submissive posture to diffuse social tension by showing that they're not a threat. To know if a belly-exposing behavior is out of trust or appeasement, look at a dog's whole body. Dogs who feel safe around you will show loose, wiggly body posture with relaxed, wagging tail. In contrast, a dog who is showing submissive behavior will crouch, freeze, or show tense body language.
Why dogs follow you everywhere
There are reasons behind a dog’s clingy behavior.
One reason your dog wants to stay close to your side is positive reinforcement. If every time you are with your pup, they get affection or treats, they’re likely to follow you around more often.
And remember, young puppies who are less than 6 months old recognize you as a parent or other object of trust, and they imprint you as they would their mother. Of course, a dog’s desire to follow us is also an expression of loyalty and love.
Why some dogs display aggressive behaviors when they are on leash
You’re starting to enjoy walking your dog, he explodes and starts barking and lunging at other people or dogs. Trainers call this problem “Leash reactivity”
Leash reactivity is often rooted in fear and insecurity. Off-leash, a dog can run away, but on-leash, a dog is trapped and has to act aggressively to protect himself. This is because the leash doesn’t allow them to escape from the thing that’s upsetting them.
And remember, when dogs learn that displaying aggressive behavior works in deterring a threat, they are likely to keep repeating the behavior.
And the second common reason for reactivity is frustration. Some dogs pull and bark on-leash when they want to play with another dog.
Why dogs pant
More often than not, dogs pant to cool themselves down.
Dogs may also pant when they’re feeling stressed or anxious. You often see this type of panting during visits to the vet, when you scold them.
Why dogs eat snow
More often than not, dogs eat snow because they are thirsty. Winter brings very dry air, and dogs lose a lot of their body moisture through their breath. In fact, before dogs were domesticated, their ancestors in colder climates often had to rely on eating snow to hydrate.
Dogs also nibble on snow because they simply like it. Snow is soft, fluffy, and hard to catch, and dogs find it fascinating.
