Working with Orangutans in Borneo - A Day In The Life
I wanted to document a day in the life as a volunteer of me working at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo. All videos of the orangutans were taken from the viewing and feeding platform.
The orang-utan has been under serious threat recently and sadly one of our closest ancestors still needs our help. They are critical endangered and without our help could go extinct within the next 10 years - We cant let this happen.
I would strongly advice anyone to do some research and avoid using unsustainable palm oil wherever possible. Feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

Jaya the Sumatran Orangutan Celebrates His Birthday
Jaya the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan turned 14 on December 13! Jaya celebrated his special day with his mate Eirina, and the pair enjoyed non-toxic, mini bubble baths and their favorite foods wrapped in presents. Join us in wishing Jaya (and his beautiful beard) a happy belated birthday!

Orangutans Hesty and Berani Get a Bubble Bath
Hesty – 1, Bubble Bath – 0. Our keepers did their best to give our Sumatran orangutans a warm, enriching bath (with non-toxic bubbles), but Hesty had another idea! After a few minutes splashing around with her half-sister Cerah, 10-year-old Hesty unplugged and drained the entire tub! Berani was certainly bummed, but he made the best of it before all the water was gone🤣 ! Video by: Zookeeper Christa Klein

Orangutans are great apes, as opposed to monkeys, and are more closely related to humans, having 97% of DNA in common.
Orangutans are extremely patient and intelligent mammals. They are very observant and inquisitive, and there are many stories of orangutans escaping from zoos after having observing the routine of their keepers unlock and lock doors.
They are currently an endangered species due to habitat loss. Suitable orangutan habitat in Indonesia and Malaysia has declined by more than 80% in the last 20 years.

Orangutan father and daughter: Cerah and Berani
Not that you needed reminding, but Cerah and Berani continue being the CUTEST duo. #ICYMI after Cerah’s mom and Berani’s mate Nias passed away suddenly from fatal heart complications, Berani stepped in as the most doting parent. As orangutan males are in no way involved with their young in the wild, this incredible bond has been something truly special to witness.
