Why Freemason Shriners Wear a Fez
Why Freemason Shriners Wear a Fez
Shriners wear a fez as part of their distinctive attire and tradition. The Shriners are a fraternal organization that is associated with Freemasonry. The order is officially known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and its members are commonly referred to as Shriners.
The fez is a type of hat that originated in the city of Fez, Morocco, during the 9th century. It is characterized by its flat crown and tassel hanging from the top. The Shriners adopted the fez as part of their attire due to the Orientalist theme of their organization, which is loosely inspired by Middle Eastern aesthetics.
The tradition of wearing a fez likely started in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when the Shriners held their conventions and meetings. The fez became a symbol of the Shriners' commitment to fun, fellowship, and charitable work, as the organization is well-known for its support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
It's important to note that the fez is a distinct symbol for Shriners and is not used by all Masonic organizations. Each fraternal group within Freemasonry has its own set of symbols and regalia, and the fez is specific to the Shriners.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast – EPISODE 37 – HAVE WE OPENED THE DOORS TO FREEMASONRY TOO MUCH?
Freemasonry is a secretive fraternal organization that has been around for centuries, and its membership requirements and practices vary across different jurisdictions and lodges. The level of secrecy and exclusivity has been a defining aspect of Freemasonry throughout its history.
In recent years, there has been a shift towards greater openness and transparency in some Masonic jurisdictions. This has resulted in increased efforts to demystify Freemasonry and make it more accessible to the public. Some lodges have become more proactive in engaging with their communities, promoting charitable work, and recruiting new members.
While the increased openness may have attracted more individuals to join Freemasonry, it doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of membership is suffering. The quality of membership depends on the selection process, the adherence to Masonic principles and values, and the dedication of individual members to upholding the traditions and teachings of Freemasonry.
Freemasonry places a strong emphasis on personal character, integrity, and moral values. Lodges typically have their own selection procedures and strive to ensure that prospective members meet certain criteria. The decision to admit new members ultimately lies with the lodge, and they have the responsibility to maintain the standards and principles of Freemasonry.
While increased openness may lead to a larger and more diverse membership, it doesn't necessarily mean a decline in quality. The ongoing commitment of individual Masons to upholding the principles and teachings of Freemasonry is crucial in maintaining the integrity of the organization.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast – Episode 34 – Masons that Signed the Declaration of Independence
This episode delves into the fascinating world of the founding fathers of the United States, who were members of the Freemasons, and their influence that can still be felt today. In particular, we'll be focusing on the Freemasons who signed the Declaration of Independence, and how their membership in the Freemasons may have influenced the drafting of this historic document.
The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress. This document announced the thirteen American colonies' separation from Great Britain and proclaimed the United States of America as an independent nation. The Declaration of Independence was more than a statement of separation; it was a statement of the principles and values on which the United States was founded.
Now let's turn our attention to the Freemasons who signed the Declaration of Independence. Of the 56 signers, many were known to be Freemasons, including Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and George Washington. It's important to note that not all of the Freemasons who signed the Declaration of Independence necessarily agreed on all of the document's contents. However, their membership in the Masons likely influenced their thinking and their views on individual rights, religious freedom, and democratic principles.
The Declaration of Independence and its signers represent the embodiment of the American spirit. Their unwavering commitment to liberty, justice, and equality has inspired people around the world for over two centuries. The document's ideas, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, have become a cornerstone of American values and beliefs. In conclusion, the Freemasons who signed the Declaration of Independence played a significant role in shaping the course of American history. While their Freemason membership may not have been the sole factor in their thinking, it likely influenced their views on democracy, individual rights, and religious freedom. The legacy of these Freemasons can still be felt today, as their ideals continue to shape the United States and its role in the world. Thank you for watching, and be sure to subscribe to our channel for more videos on Freemason history, culture, and the men themselves.
Those masonic signers were:
• Benjamin Franklin
• John Hancock
• Elbridge Gerry
• William Hooper
• Richard Stockton
• Matthew Thornton
• George Walton

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 26 – The Morgan Affair Follow-up – Did You Consider This?
On episode 13 (no coincidence), the Old Fashion Masonic Podcast team talked about The Morgan Affair. That episode gave historical background on the event and discussed a lot of theories. A few that were not discussed, was the involvement with his disappearance that could have included his wife and/or business partners!
On this episode of The Old Fashion Masonic Podcast, the Old Fashion Masonic Podcast crew takes a deeper dive into The Morgan Affair’s “alternative theories”.
They pose questions like:
• Was Dave Miller, the ostracized Mason and his book deal partner, involved?
• Was his landlord, as a partner on the book deal involved?
• Was his wife, Lucienda, involved?
• How many mysterious deaths was she associated with?
The Old Fashion Masonic Podcast team also talked about what Freemasonry may be like today had this event never happened.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 24 – Jack the Ripper Conspiracy – Masonic Involvement?
On this episode of The Old Fashion Masonic Podcast, the crew talks about Jack the Ripper and if this series of events had ANYTHING to do with Freemasons.
Jack the Ripper was an unidentified serial killer who terrorized the streets of London's East End in the late 19th century. While there have been numerous theories and speculations about his identity, one of the most intriguing is the alleged involvement of Freemasons in the Jack the Ripper case. Some researchers believe that members of the Freemasons were involved in the Jack the Ripper case, either as suspects or as part of a cover-up.
One of the key pieces of evidence cited in support of this theory is the fact that several of the victims were killed near Masonic lodges. For example, Mary Jane Kelly, who was believed to be the Ripper's final victim, lived in a room next door to the headquarters of the Grand Lodge of England. Some have suggested that this proximity is more than a coincidence and that the Ripper may have been a member of the Freemasons.
IS PROXIMITY TO A LODGE ENOUGH TO TIE MASONS TO THESE MURDERS?
Another factor that has fueled speculation about the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar, is said to have been involved in a range of illicit activities, including murder and extortion. Some researchers believe that members of the Masonic Knights Templar were involved in the Jack the Ripper case and that their influence helped to shield the Ripper from capture.
WERE THERE FACTS TO SUPPORT THIS, OR SIMPLY MORE SPECULATION?
However, despite the tantalizing nature of these theories, there is little concrete evidence to support them. The official investigation into the Jack the Ripper case was conducted by Scotland Yard, and while the Freemasons were certainly a powerful and influential organization in Victorian England, there is no evidence that they played any role in the investigation.
Moreover, many of the supposed links between the Freemasons and the Jack the Ripper case are circumstantial (at best) and can be easily explained by coincidence. For example, the fact that several of the victims were killed near Masonic lodges may simply reflect the fact that these areas were densely populated and that many buildings in the East End housed multiple organizations.
In conclusion, while the theory of Freemason involvement in the Jack the Ripper case is intriguing and has captured the imagination of many people over the years, there is little concrete evidence to support it. While the Freemasons were certainly a powerful and influential organization in Victorian England, there is no evidence to suggest that they played any role in the Jack the Ripper case, either as suspects or as part of a cover-up.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 21 – Famous Freemason Athletes
On this episode, Russ Brown and Mike Ward play a ‘Who am I?” game with Brian Byrd guessing who the Freemason Athletes are. Brian had an early prediction that Russ would not do so well; did he?
Freemasonry has a rich history of attracting individuals from all walks of life. Among its members are many well-known professional athletes who have achieved great success in their respective sports.
One of the most notable Freemasons in the world of sports is Shaquille Oneal. He risen to the rank of Master Mason, and is known to have attended meetings at various lodges throughout his career. He notably announced to the world that he was a Freemason on a basketball talk show, on TNT, when asked about this enormous ring on his finger.
Another well-known Freemason athlete is Arnold Palmer. Palmer, a legendary golfer, was a member of the Latrobe Lodge No. 157 in Pennsylvania. He remained an active member until his passing in 2016.
Other notable Freemason athletes include Ty Cobb, the famous baseball player, and Jack Dempsey, the heavyweight boxing champion. Both men were known for their athletic prowess, and also for their commitment to the principles of Freemasonry.
In addition to these well-known athletes, there are many other Freemason sports figures who have made significant contributions to their respective sports. These individuals have used their platform as athletes to promote the values of Freemasonry, such as brotherhood, charity, and truth.
Overall, the connection between Freemasonry and sports is an interesting one, as it shows that the values of the organization can be found in all aspects of life, including the world of professional athletics. Through their membership in the organization, these athletes have shown their commitment to these values, and have served as positive role models for others to follow.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 20 – Korleone Young – Former NBA Player – Master Mason
Masonic Family! On this week's episode of The Old Fashioned Masonic Podcast, we interviewed former NBA and International basketball player Korleone Young. Not only is Brother Young a Wichita, KS native, but he is a new Freemason.
An athletic 6'7" small forward, Young starred at Wichita East High School and Hargrave Military Academy (Virginia). As a senior at Hargrave, he decided to skip college and declare himself eligible for the 1998 NBA Draft.
According to sources, despite his status as a blue chip top college recruit, he slid in the draft. The Detroit Pistons decided to take a chance on Young, selecting him with their second-round pick (40th overall. The Pistons cut ties with Young soon afterwards because of an injury.
Young played for the Richmond Rhythm of the IBL, averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds during the 1999–2000 season. The next year, he played for the CBA's Rockford Lightning under coach and former NBA player Stacey King, with whom he averaged 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks, then moved on to the Canberra Cannons of the Australian NBL. Stacey King praised Young as "probably the best player in the CBA" in February 2001, as Young was improving statistically.
With Canberra, Young averaged 27 points to become the 2001 NBL pre-season MVP, but he suffered an injury in the first game of the regular season and terminated his contract with the Cannons on January 9, 2002.
In September 2002, Young signed with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Continental Basketball Association.
Young has also played for teams in Russia and China. In September 2006 he joined Bnei HaSharon of Israel, but he had left the team before the season had started.
We talked about Korleone’s journey through Masonry, his professional career, personal life, and his future plans. You do not want to miss this one.
