Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 21 – Famous Freemason Athletes
On this episode, Russ Brown and Mike Ward play a ‘Who am I?” game with Brian Byrd guessing who the Freemason Athletes are. Brian had an early prediction that Russ would not do so well; did he?
Freemasonry has a rich history of attracting individuals from all walks of life. Among its members are many well-known professional athletes who have achieved great success in their respective sports.
One of the most notable Freemasons in the world of sports is Shaquille Oneal. He risen to the rank of Master Mason, and is known to have attended meetings at various lodges throughout his career. He notably announced to the world that he was a Freemason on a basketball talk show, on TNT, when asked about this enormous ring on his finger.
Another well-known Freemason athlete is Arnold Palmer. Palmer, a legendary golfer, was a member of the Latrobe Lodge No. 157 in Pennsylvania. He remained an active member until his passing in 2016.
Other notable Freemason athletes include Ty Cobb, the famous baseball player, and Jack Dempsey, the heavyweight boxing champion. Both men were known for their athletic prowess, and also for their commitment to the principles of Freemasonry.
In addition to these well-known athletes, there are many other Freemason sports figures who have made significant contributions to their respective sports. These individuals have used their platform as athletes to promote the values of Freemasonry, such as brotherhood, charity, and truth.
Overall, the connection between Freemasonry and sports is an interesting one, as it shows that the values of the organization can be found in all aspects of life, including the world of professional athletics. Through their membership in the organization, these athletes have shown their commitment to these values, and have served as positive role models for others to follow.
There are others discussed in this episode and we trust you will give us your candid feedback.

Masonic Family! On this week's episode of The Old Fashioned Masonic Podcast, we interviewed former NBA and International basketball player Korleone Young. Not only is Brother Young a Wichita, KS native, but he is a new Freemason.
An athletic 6'7" small forward, Young starred at Wichita East High School and Hargrave Military Academy (Virginia). As a senior at Hargrave, he decided to skip college and declare himself eligible for the 1998 NBA Draft.
According to sources, despite his status as a blue chip top college recruit, he slid in the draft. The Detroit Pistons decided to take a chance on Young, selecting him with their second-round pick (40th overall. The Pistons cut ties with Young soon afterwards because of an injury.
Young played for the Richmond Rhythm of the IBL, averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds during the 1999–2000 season. The next year, he played for the CBA's Rockford Lightning under coach and former NBA player Stacey King, with whom he averaged 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks, then moved on to the Canberra Cannons of the Australian NBL. Stacey King praised Young as "probably the best player in the CBA" in February 2001, as Young was improving statistically.
With Canberra, Young averaged 27 points to become the 2001 NBL pre-season MVP, but he suffered an injury in the first game of the regular season and terminated his contract with the Cannons on January 9, 2002.
In September 2002, Young signed with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the Continental Basketball Association.
Young has also played for teams in Russia and China. In September 2006 he joined Bnei HaSharon of Israel, but he had left the team before the season had started.
We talked about Korleone’s journey through Masonry, his professional career, personal life, and his future plans. You do not want to miss this one.

Old Fashion Masonic Podcast - Episode 29 – Medal of Honor Winner – Bro. Erwin R. Bleckley – Kansas Freemason
This episode is all about Honoring Erwin Bleckley, a true American hero who received the Medal of Honor for his brave actions during World War I. Erwin Bleckley was a member of Albert Pike Lodge in Wichita, KS. Most Worshipful Bob Talbott sits down with Brian Byrd to talk about this outstanding Kansas Mason.
Bleckley was a navigator on a mission to deliver supplies to a trapped battalion when his plane was shot down behind enemy lines. Despite the danger, he volunteered to fly on a search and rescue mission to locate the lost battalion. Bleckley and his crew were tragically killed in action, but his selflessness and courage will never be forgotten.
Bleckley was commemorated by the city of Wichita in 1932 with the naming of Bleckley Drive, at the request of the American Legion. Following the war, his remains were permanently buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial east of the village of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, France.
Bleckley's family donated his Medal of Honor to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. The original copy of the award document is located in the Museum of the Kansas National Guard in Topeka, KS along with other personal momentoes and personal items belonging to Lt. Bleckley. A monument commemorating Bleckley and Goettler's final flight was erected on October 7, 2009, in Remicourt, ninety-one years and one day after they were killed.
Let us remember and honor his sacrifice, and all those who have served and continue to serve our country.
