Top 10 strange sea creatures around the world you would've ever see to believe.
Featuring:
1. Orange Frogfish.
It belongs to the family of Antennariidae. Found in tropical coastal waters of Asia.
These fish feed on any fish they can catch. Can swallow fish even double of their size.
2. Longhorn Cowfish
It is recognizable by its long horns that protrude from its head.
Can grow up to 50 cms. They are omnivorous & feed upon benthic algae & various microorganisms.
Found beside coral reefs around Red Sea & East Africa eastward through Indonesia to Marquesas, northward to southern Japan. Including Tuamotus, southern Korea, southern Japan, Australia & Lord Howe Island & off southern Africa in the Atlantic Tropical & subtropical waters.
3. Bubble Eye Goldfish
Its a fancy goldfish with upward pointing eyes that are accompanied by two large fluid-filled sacs like bubble.
It is a dorsal-less fish & have metallic scales similar to the celestial eye goldfish.
They normally grow up to 3 to 4 inches.
4. Balloon fish.
Its a kind of porcupine fish.
A boxy-looking species with a pointed head, big eyes & spines or scales on its skin lie flat beside its body. The skin is whitish & there are dark blotch on its skin.
The fish can reach lengths of 55 cm. They include a strong toxin known as tetrodotoxin, which is at least 1,300 times more venomous than cyanide.
When threatened the balloon fish will take in water and swells like balloon.
Found in Western Atlantic, Florida, Brazil, South Africa, generally in 2-200 meters in tropical & sub-tropical aquatic coastal waters, South American Rivers, East coast of Florida, North Carolina
5. Mexican Salamander
It is also known as Axolotl. They are unusual among amphibians as it always remain aquatic & gilled.
Axolotls are used extensively in scientific research due to their ability to regenerate limbs.
The axolotl is carnivorous, consuming small prey such as worms, insects & small fish. They locate food by smell & suck the food into their stomachs with vacuum force.
6. Leafy Seadragon
It has leaf-like appendages on the body. Can grow upto 15cm.
Only found in the southern coastline of Australia, Kangaroo Island, South Australia to Rottnest Island, Western Australia.
7. Lion Fish
It is scientifically known as Pterois volitans & poisonous. They have a couple of fan-shaped pectoral fins & a spiky dorsal fin. These fins give the fish the look of a lion's mane.
They are inhabitant to the reefs & stony crevices of the Indo-Pacific region.
It can grow to about 16 inches in length.
8. Angler Fish
Found in very deep ocean water.
It has a massive head. It has a large crescent shaped mouth, with numerous sharp pointed teeth. It has a flattened white belly region.
The males are very small & live as permanent parasites on the female attaching himself, by biting, to the body of the female, to become simply a source of sperm.
It feeds on a wide variety of small & juvenile fish. It is found all around the coastline of the UK, Atlantic, English Channel & North Sea.
9. Blanket Octopus
Its name is derived from the long, clear webs extending from the dorsal arms of the a mature female, looks sort of like a see-through blanket.
It is one of the few sea creatures known to use external weapons as a self-defense mechanism.
The female octopus reaches an average length of 2 metres while male counterpart may grow up to a mere 3 centimetres.
10. Flying Fish
There are 40 different species of flying fish found in tropical & subtropical water of Atlantic, Pacific & Indian Ocean. Flying fish are especially abundant in the Caribbean Sea. Usually 7 to 12 inches long.
They are shaped like torpedo can speed upto 37 mph to jumps out of the water & spreads its wings.
They can reach the height of 4 feet in the air & glide distance of 655 feet before returning back to the water.
