Gear ratios and transmission type can change the dynamics of load against your engine. Loading up your engine at low RPM with a lot of timing can cause detonation and possible permanent engine damage. PERFORM AT YOUR OWN RISK* today we will be looking at my ignition timing curve for my carbureted ls. The way you do this is similar to using the MSD 6014 if you disable the map sensor. The secret to the perfect timing curve on a carbed ls is knowing where to add timing as well as knowing where to leave the timing as it is. The timing curve for a drag racer is different than a timing curve for a daily drive and its different whether or not you have a turbo ls or boosted ls and whether you have an NA engine. Today we are going back in time to the no name nationals 2022 as I talk about my experience there while hanging out with @fleetwoodfabrication5248 . Originally we wanted to do a one and done race but we ended up drag racing several times after that in order to get my tune dialed in. Although no changes we made to the carburetor itself, the manner that I drove it had to be handled differently because the build was freshly completed and I needed to learn how to drive it, fast. The turbo LS functioned as it needed to but racing the little dodge truck with my larger dodge truck proved to be more of an obstacle than I had anticipated. I arrived at the NNN 2022 with a less than optimal set up so now I have a year to get everything dialed in. Today we will be going over what you need in order to turbocharge a carbureted engine. Although I am currently running a carbureted LS, the same rules apply to any engine running a 4 barrel double pumper carb or a 2 barrel 2300 carb. Holley carbs are the most well known to be used for turbo charging because of their reversibility and today I'll go over the basics to make it happen. Today we are looking at retrofitting a heater made for boats and installing it in my turbo LS truck. This is a hydronic heater made by the guys over at @Maradynehpfans . A hydronic heater is a heater that relys on engine coolant produce heat. As long as the engine is hot, the heater will produce hot air. This type of system is great for classic cars as well as boats because it can be used to create a insane amount of heat in the cabin without having to worry about over powering the electronics of the vehicle. On a boat that is a similar benefit and it allows the alternator as well as the battery to run cooler vs an electric heater. Today we are looking at the MIG 205DS multiprocess welder by @YesWelder . I've had this machine for about 6 months but have only been using it seriously for about 3. I have used this welder to build my turbo kit piping, weld a waste gate to a cast steel housing, light body panel repair, bracket fabrication, and much more. So far I am loving this unit because it is light and powerful. For the price, you really cant beat a machine like this. Todays video comes from a question from one of my viewers. He asked if it was ok to run a welder with a generator and the short answer is yes but the longer answer is always it depends. Inverter welders are very sensistive to voltage fluxuations and traditional style generators do not provide clean enough power to keep inverter welders happy. Today we are looking at the top 5 best cheap welders for beginners. These welders follow 3 basic guidelines. first, that they must be a DC machine. AC machines are pretty old school and most machines on the market are DC anyway, but its still something that needs to be said. The second thing is that the wire speed and voltage knobs need to be independent of each other. One important notion of learning to weld is finding your grove so sometimes the preset settings on the machines don't give you enough wiggle room to try doing things a different way. This last weekend was the very first No Name Nationals and I traveled almost 4000 miles round trip. my truck is equip with a carbureted 4.8 ls engine, 78/75 turbocharger, Toyota r150 transmission and transfer case. Axles were a dana 60 in the rear and dana 44 in the front. I was there only on Saturday so I had to make as many runs as I could to get some practice in before I start making hits against real people. I quickly realized that I was not able to get on boost at the line and that I would need a 2 step installed for my turbo at low RPM, or at best, a trans brake.
