Major earthquake strikes Mexico on Sept. 19 for third time since 1985, this time a magnitude 7.6
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake shook the west coast of Mexico on Monday, coincidentally on the same day that two previous major quakes had rattled the country years before.
There were no immediate reports of major damage from the quake, which hit at 1:05 p.m. local time, the U.S. Geological Survey said. One person was killed in the port city of Manzanillo, Colima, when a wall collapsed at a mall, according to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami was possible along parts of the Mexican coastline within about 200 miles of the quake epicenter, but there was no threat for the U.S. West Coast including California and Hawaii, Weather.com reported.
The USGS said the quake was centered 23 miles southeast of Aquila near the boundary of the Colima and Michoacan states and at a depth of 9.4 miles.
Michoacan’s Public Security department said there were no immediate reports of significant damage in that state beyond some cracks in buildings in the town of Coalcoman.
Irlanda Villa, of coastal Coahuayana, near the border with Colima, said some walls had fallen, but the big fear was that a tsunami would follow. “We were afraid the sea would go out, but in the end everything is fine.”
Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum also tweeted that there were no reports of damage in the capital.
The quake hit on the same day as major quakes in 1985 and 2017. Alarms for Monday's quake came less than an hour after alarms sounded in a nationwide earthquake simulation to mark the previous quakes.
“This is a coincidence,” that this is the third Sept. 19 earthquake, said U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Paul Earle. “There’s no physical reason or statistical bias toward earthquakes in any given month in Mexico.”
As many as 10,000 people were killed in the 1985 temblor, a magnitude 8.0 that struck near Mexico City. The 2017 quake, a magnitude 7.1, killed about 370 people and caused heavy damage in the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos.

Apple iOS 16 is available now: What to know about latest software update for iPhone
If you didn't preorder an iPhone 14, iPhone owners can still get the feeling of owning a new smartphone Monday.
Apple launched iOS 16 on Monday, delivering a suite of new features to most iPhones. The timing of iOS 16's launch was revealed last Wednesday along with the iPhone 14.
Preorders for the iPhone kicked off last Friday. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will hit stores Sept. 16. The iPhone 14 Plus will launch next month.
Prices for iPhone 14 start at $799, topped by the iPhone 14 Pro Max at $1,099.
Here's everything you should know about the arrival of iOS 16.
What time did iOS 16 released?
Apple said iOS 16 will launch on Sept. 12, four days before the iPhone 14 hits stores. Typically, the software update is available to download at 1 p.m. Eastern time, or 10 a.m. PT.
Which phones will support iOS 16?
If you own an iPhone 8 or later, then your phone will support iOS 16. Second generation or later models of the iPhone SE will also support the new software update.
Will all iPhones support every new iOS 16 feature?
A handful of features are only supported if your iPhone is running the A12 chip. How do you find this out? Basically, if you own an iPhone 8 or earlier, you don't have the chip. Features such as pulling live text from video or lifting subjects from an image aren't available on older iPhones.
What features won't be there Monday?
The most notable feature that won't launch until later this year is the iCloud Shared Photo Library, which allows iPhone owners to more easily share photos among family members or friends.
How to update iPhone with iOS 16?
The best way to check is to head to Settings, then General, then Software Update. Your iPhone will tell you whether iOS 16 is available.
When it is available, plug in your device or make sure your device has 50% battery life or more. Then tap "Install Now." Then prepare to wait. It could take a while.
What features are coming to iOS 16?
Edit or delete Messages after sending. Users can either edit or unsend a message in the Messages app up to 15 minutes after it's been sent. Both the sender and recipient must use the Messages app and run iOS 16.
Customizable lock screens. Users can apply different styles and fonts as well as additional information resembling mini-widgets that can show the weather, activity, alarms and more. The widgets resemble ones you can add to the face of an Apple Watch.
Focus mode upgrades. iPhone owners will have an easier time creating a Focus and transitioning between multiple Focus modes, such as shifting between work and personal uses or when you're about to go to bed, for example.
Passkeys for Safari. What if your iPhone essentially becomes your password? Passkeys offers a new way to sign in to services or websites by using your iPhone as a way to log in with Touch ID or Face ID.

Matt Shakman is Officially Directing 'Fantastic Four'
In the midst of several large reveals about upcoming Marvel projects at this year's D23 Expo, Matt Shakman has officially been confirmed to direct the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot via an announcement at the Marvel Studios panel at D23, confirmed by the company's official Twitter page.
It was previously reported that Shakman was in talks to helm the project after Jon Watts, who recently directed the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, walked away from the film to pursue other projects. Shakman previously directed the Marvel Disney+ series Wandavision, which was well received by both fans and critics. With his established experience in the MCU, Shakman may be a perfect fit for the director's chair of the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Now with a confirmed director bringing Marvel's first family to the big screen, development of the film should be able to continue on schedule.
While the panel didn't reveal any plot information or casting updates to the film, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige promises that there is more in store for the next D23 expo. More information about the film will likely be revealed as it furthers along into development and begins to gear up for production in a future undetermined date. Fans will still have to wait a few years to see the big-screen debut of The Fantastic Four in the MCU as the film is set to be released on November 8, 2024.
Regarded as Marvel's first family, Fantastic Four's legacy remains strong in the comic book fandom, being staples of the Marvel universe. Despite their cultural and lasting legacy, the team of heroes has not fared well in film. The Fantastic Four was first brought into the realm of live-action film with the film of the same name in 1994, which was never released. The team had their first official adaptation in 2005 from director Tim Story which, despite performing well at the box office, was poorly received alongside its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. However, the franchise sank to a new low in 2015 with the release of a dark and gritty reboot from Josh Trank, which was panned by both critics and fans, earning a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, with the Disney acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the rights to the characters were returned to Marvel Studios, allowing for a fresh reboot. Seeds are already being planted in the MCU as a variant of Reed Richards, played by John Krasinski, debuted in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, before being killed off by the Scarlet Witch. It's unknown who will be playing the variant of the upcoming reboot, but only time will tell as fans patiently await the release of Fantastic Four.
Fantastic Four will be released on November 8, 2024.

‘Inside Out 2’ Coming in Summer 2024, With Amy Poehler Returning
One of Pixar’s most acclaimed films is getting a sequel. “Inside Out 2” is in the works from director Kelsey Mann, it was announced at the D23 Expo on Friday.
Amy Poehler is returning as Joy, while Meg LeFauve, who co-wrote the original movie with Pete Docter and Josh Cooley, is back to write the script. Mark Nielsen is producing the pic, which is in early production and coming in summer 2024.
The animated movie will feature new emotions and follow Riley as a teenager.
Released in 2015, the original “Inside Out” imagined a world where people have five core personified emotions — Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust — guiding their thoughts and actions through everyday life. The film zeroed in on the emotions of Riley, a middle-schooler struggling to adapt to her family’s move from Minnesota to San Francisco, as her leading emotion Joy is expelled from the control center and forced to team up with her polar opposite Sadness in a quest through her mind. The film ended with the two coming to an understanding as Joy recognizes the need for Riley to experience an emotionally complex life, and she begins collaborating more with her fellow emotions to steer the girl through adolescence.
Docter (“Up” and “Soul”) directed the original movie, which also starred Phyllis Smith (Sadness), Lewis Black (Anger), Bill Hader (Fear), Mindy Kaling (Disgust), Kaitlyn Dias (Riley), Diane Lane (Riley’s mom) and Kyle MacLachlan (Riley’s dad).
A critical success, “Inside Out” won best animated feature at the 2016 Oscars and received a nomination for original screenplay. The film was also financially successful, grossing over $800 million at the global box office.
“Inside Out 2” will follow Pixar’s previously announced “Elemental,” which hits theaters June 16, 2023.

Biden says he will attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral
Details regarding the queen’s funeral have not yet been announced, but it’s expected to be at Westminster Abbey, where the queen was crowned.
President Joe Biden said Friday that he will attend the funeral of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth, the most definitive comment to date from the White House on whether the president will travel for the service.
“I don’t know what the details are yet but I’ll be going,” Biden told reporters before boarding Air Force One after a speech in Ohio. The president also said he knows King Charles but has not yet spoken to him since the death of his mother.
Up until Biden’s remarks, the White House had not confirmed whether the president would attend. In a gaggle with reporters earlier Friday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to provide details, deferring to “official protocol” regarding invitations for the service.
The queen, 96, died on Thursday, ending her reign as the longest-serving British monarch. She held the crown for more than 70 years and led the monarchy through 14 U.S. presidencies. Leaders around the world mourned her death, with Biden remembering her as a “stateswoman of unmatched dignity and constancy who deepened the bedrock Alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States.”
Details regarding the queen’s funeral have not yet been announced, but it’s expected to be held at Westminster Abbey, where the queen was crowned. The space typically holds more than 2,000 congregants, but for the queen’s coronation in 1953, extra seating was arranged to accommodate more than 8,000 people.
When King Edward VII, the queen’s grandfather, died in 1910, representatives of 70 states attended — marking the largest ever gathering of European royalty.
For the queen’s funeral, members of Europe’s royal families, prime ministers, presidents and ambassadors are expected to attend.

Kevin Bridges: what did the comedian say about the Queen during OVO Hydro show in Glasgow?
The death of the Queen was announced shortly before the Glaswegian comedian kicked off his show at the city’s OVO Hydro arena
Despite events being cancelled around the country following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, comedian Kevin Bridges’ show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro went ahead last night (8 September).
The Glaswegian funnyman was playing to a sold-out audience at one of the city’s biggest venues when news broke of the monarch’s passing.
Following the monumentous announcement, Bridges couldn’t ignore the news rippling through the arena, and cracked jokes at the start of his show.
However, his take on the news didn’t gone down well with everyone, with some people online claiming that they were in bad taste.
Here’s what he said about the Queen’s passing.
What did Kevin Bridges say about the Queen?
In footage from the show, Bridges arrived on stage and immediately started bantering with the audience over the news which had just broken.
He told the 14,000-strong audience: “On this historic evening, this is the 40th time that I’ve performed at this venue. So I’m sure it’ll be in all of the papers in the morning. Front page in the Daily Telegraph. Welcome to the only f***ing show going ahead in Britain this evening.
“The doors were at half six and she hung on, it’s what she would have wanted so well done.”
Dressed in a suit for the show, Bridges added: “We’re doing it for Lizzie and I’ve wore a black suit as a tribute.
“We’re getting ready, it’s probably the last show before we go back into lockdown, that’s what’s happening.”
He said that the Queen wouldn’t be “the only old woman that’s going to die this winter”, before adding: “Page 25 tomorrow, they’ll be all lots of s**t getting buried. F*****g Liz Truss, ‘what did I say that energy bill cap was two and a half grand? F**k that.”
He finished the intro saying: “Get in Charles innit, that’s that. The new head of state, a wee dog [King Charles Spaniel]. Stick him on the money til he f*****g heels.”
What has been the reaction to the jokes?
While the audience appeared to laugh along with the comedian, some people online found the jokes in poor taste so close to the former monarch’s death.
One angry critic online tweeted: “If you’ve been unfortunate enough to see excerpts of Kevin Bridges show last night where he made several vile and disgusting comments about the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, feel free to register your complaint to the Hydro.”
Another said: “Kevin bridges is an absolute disgrace of a human, going to the lowest denominator and calling it humour. Disgusting absolutely disgusting.”
Despite the cancellation of events throughout the weekend, the OVO Hydro has announced that the remaining dates for Kevin Bridges over the weekend will go ahead.

Charles to Reign as 'King Charles III'
Britain's former Prince Charles will officially reign under the title of His Majesty King Charles III now that he is monarch, Clarence House has confirmed, according to the BBC.
There was some doubt over whether the royal would choose to adopt his own name or follow in royal tradition and select another such as George.
Britain's national broadcaster announced that Clarence House, the official residence of Charles when Prince of Wales, had confirmed: "The new King will officially be known as King Charles III."
The king's mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died on Thursday with an official announcement coming from Buckingham Palace at 6:30 p.m. U.K. time, reading:
"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
In paying tribute to his mother, Charles issued a statement in which he said: "The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
"During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."

Prince Charles Pays Tribute To His Mother In First Statement As Monarch
Prince Charles paid tribute to his mother Queen Elizabeth II in his first statement as monarch Thursday evening.
“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” the statement read.
“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms, and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
Charles, 73, immediately assumed the throne following Queen Elizabeth II’s death at Balmoral Castle on Thursday afternoon. She was 96. Clarence House has confirmed the new King will officially be known as King Charles III.
Speaking shortly after the Queen’s death was announced, Uk Prime Minister Liz Truss said: “Today the crown passes, as it has done for more than 1,000 years, to our new monarch — our new head of state — His Majesty King Charles III.”
Queen Elizabeth II is survived by Charles as well as her other three children, Andrew, Anne, and Edward, along with grandchildren including Prince William, who is now second in line to the throne, and Prince Harry, who lives in the U.S. Her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, died in 2021 aged 99.
One of the world’s most highly-respected heads of state, Queen Elizabeth II was born the first daughter of King George VI in 1926 and became the UK’s monarch at just 25 upon her father’s death, with her coronation taking place in 1953.
She remained in post for 70 years, overseeing the reign of 15 Prime Ministers and historical events including the Suez Canal scandal, UK miners’ strike, Gulf Wars, Britain’s entry and exit into the European Union, and, latterly, the Covid-19 pandemic. Just this week, Liz Truss traveled to meet her at Balmoral so the Queen could formally ask her to form her new government — a key British constitutional act.
She replaced Queen Victoria as the UK’s longest-serving monarch in September 2015 and is the second longest-serving monarch of all time worldwide, after France’s Louis XIV.

Everything Apple announced at its 'Far Out' event
Apple unveiled four new iPhones during a press event on Wednesday, along with three new Apple Watches, an updated AirPods Pro and a feature that could save lives when cell service isn't available.
Here's a closer look:
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus: Apple fans can now buy a larger-sized iPhone without paying the Pro price. The new iPhone 14 (6.1 inches) and the iPhone 14 Plus (6.7 inches) feature longer battery life, the same chip as last year's iPhone 13 Pro model (the A15) and a new camera system, including a 12 MP main camera with bigger pixels, a faster aperture and improved sensors. Other features: front-camera auto focus capabilities; a new action mode that lets users keep videos stable while moving; and the removal of the physical SIM card, opting instead for a digital, "e-SIM" card.
Cost: iPhone 14 starts at $799 and the larger iPhone 14 Plus model starts at $899. Colors: midnight, starlight, blue, purple and Product Red.
iPhone 14 Pro: Apple's premium iPhone line redesigned the polarizing notch in favor of a pill-shaped one. Inside holds the true-depth camera, and includes a brand new feature that Apple is calling "dynamic island," for interactive widgets on your lock screen and access to music controls, timer and other features. The models will come in four colors: space black, silver, gold, and deep purple.
AirPods Pro 2: The latest wireless earbuds have a longer lasting battery, feature a button at the bottom of the case that alerts you to its location and improved and dynamic noise-cancellation technology. Cost: $249; hits stores on Friday.
Three new Apple Watches:
Apple Watch Ultra ($799): The high-end smartwatch is designed for outdoor enthusiasts. Think: deep sea scuba divers and triathletes. It features a brighter display, is more water resistant, comes with an advanced compass and gets 60 hours of use time.
Meanwhile, the Series 8 — which starts at $399 for GPS model and $499 for cellular — narrows in on women's health, with revamped period cycle tracking tools that can predict ovulation. It can also detect when a user has been in a car crash.
The Apple Watch SE, which starts at $249 for GPS models and $299 for cellular, also features crash detection technology, and is faster than the previous model.
Satellite connectivity: Emergency SOS via Satellite could be a life saver for people needing to communicate when off the grid. By pointing an iPhone 14 toward a satellite in the sky, which the phone will help locate, users will be able to send and receive information to get emergency help even if cell service isn't working.

iOS 16 Release Date: All iPhone Users Get New OS on Sept. 12
iOS 16, the next major annual software update for the iPhone, arrives for supported devices on September 12, Apple announced today. The update didn't get a release date during Apple's big keynote, but shortly afterward, the iOS 16 website was updated with release information. The iPhone 8 and newer devices will be supported.
The biggest change in iOS 16 is arguably a total overhaul of the lock screen, which is now much more customizable than it was in iOS 15 and before. Users will be able to add animated wallpapers and custom interactive widgets to several swappable, custom lock screens. Lock screens will also be able to change based on the current Focus mode on the iPhone, building on another recent iOS feature.
Further, the lock screen will get a new feature called Live Activities, which will let you see updates on currently unfolding events like sports games or the news without swiping past the lock screen to interact with apps or widgets.
Apart from the lock screen improvements, most of the major additions in iOS 16 are in individual built-in apps like Messages and Mail. For example, Messages will now allow you to edit or delete a sent text message—but the recipient will still see that a message was edited or deleted, even if they can't see what it was. In Mail, you'll be able to schedule emails to be sent and set follow-up reminders.
For the past few years, iPadOS has launched in close timing with its companion iOS update, but Apple already said before this event that won't be the case this year. Expect iPadOS 16 several weeks later, possibly timed with new iPad hardware in October.
