Conserving Important Ecosystems
Why are we conserving these places?? Because they’re the last of their kind and nobody else is going to do it! #nativehabitatproject #rxfire #conservation #ecosystems #wildflowers #grasslands #nativeplants #prescribedfire #nature

Burning Rare Wildflowers
Every year we burn this place it just keeps getting better! More wildflowers, native grassland species, and more biodiversity in general. I believe bringing back our native grassland ecosystems is how we start fixing this planet and we do that by bringing the right kind of fire back to the landscape! #nativehabitatproject #ecosystems #conservation #grasslands #nature #prescribedfire #rxfire #wildflowers #nativeplants #wildlife

Grasslands Clean Waterways
Native grasslands are the earths filter. They filter water with their deep root systems allowing water to filter down to the aquifer. They clean air and the way they store carbon in the soil is far more reliable than forests. But they also keep things in place like leaves and soil and that’s how we clean our water ways! #nativehabitatproject #conservation #grasslands #nature #plantnative #ecosystems #sustainability #cleanair #cleanwater

Regeneration In Savannas
Two Shortleaf Pines in two completely different environments and neither gives these trees what they want. It’s the same story across the southeast for long leaf, upland hardwood savannas, and mixed pine and hardwood savannas. The best tree planter is a tree in the ecosystem it needs! #nativehabitatproject #grasslands #savannas #forestry #shortleafpine #conservation #ecology #forestregeneration

Collecting Rattlesnake Master For Cordage
Did you know the oldest pair of shoes ever found was made of Rattlesnake Master? This is easily my favorite native wildflower. Hoping to make something useful out of these! #nativehabitatproject #plantnative #rattlesnakemaster #wildflowers #grasslands #prairies #nativeplants

Limestone Glades
If you’ve never visited a glade before look for some in your area! The Southeast is full of them and they make for some great nature walks! #nativehabitatproject #conservation #grasslands #glades #cedarglades #biodiversity

Using Native Plum Thickets As Screens
Only 2 days left to get our Grasslands Shirts! Here’s another reason why native species and biodiversity work in your favor for creating screens. Each native plays well with other native species and they all play their own role. Ecosystems don’t allow plants to not pull their weight, outcompete other plants, and provide nothing for wildlife. #nativehabitatproject #ecosystems #plantnative #conservation #grasslands #biodiversity #nativehabitatmanagers #thewallthatdoesitall #hunting #wildlife

Native Screening
We have the mindset that monocultures are best but biodiversity is always the answer. It’s no different when creating screens. Add an array of native species that hold each other up, attract insects, give cover, and provide native species with a food source. #nativehabitatproject #nativehabitatmanagers #miscanthus #thewallthatdoesitall #conservation #wildlife #hunting

Heavenly bamboo is only heavenly in a snowy forest. This is a great time of year to mark easily spotted invasives like this one!

Coyotes and Ecosystems
I said what i said. Healthy ecosystems will always have an array of predators so don’t think of them as a threat, think of them as a sign that every trophic level is likely meeting its needs. #nativehabitatproject #nativehabitatmanagers #conservation #wildlife #biodiversity #predatormanagement #Coyotes

Canceling Miscanthus
This should upset everyone, not just hunters, because it will be our kids and grandkids ridding the landscape of this plant. The sad part is this plant wasn’t even planted as an attempt to help wildlife, it does absolutely nothing for our native wildlife. If you want a “screen” use native plants! #nativehabitatproject #nativehabitatmanagers #invasiveplants #conservation #miscanthus #hunting #wildlife

What’s a Native Habitat Manager
If you think this is a good idea for hunters then ask yourself what you’ve taken from our native ecosystems. Chances are it’s alot more than a hunter it’s just indirect. We’re all guilty of the old saying “out of sight, out of mind”! So we should all be Native Habitat Managers! #nativehabitatproject #nativehabitatmanagers #hunting #conservation #biodiversity #nativeecosystems #sustainability #ForTheLoveOfTheLand
