Turtle Love or Turtle War
I spent around an hour at the West Bay observation deck at Conestee Nature Preserve in SC. Then, it was time to take a walk. I had noticed folks near the downstream pedestrian bridge taking photos of something that I could not see from my position.
I was curious.
It had been a while, so the likelihood was that whatever interesting thing had caught their attention was gone now. And that appeared to be so.
I approached the area and only saw two large rocks out in the middle of the water. In just a second I would be wishing I had a camera that could do video. I’ve walked past that spot dozens of times; don’t remember those rocks.
Then … the rocks started moving.

Close Encounter With A Hawk
As I approached the boardwalk that led up to the East Bay observation deck at Lake Conestee Nature Preserve in SC, probably 20 feet from where I stood at the edge of the boardwalk was this magnificent hawk, devouring what was left of a very large crawfish.
I froze in my tracks.
He looked up in my direction. At this point my camera was still hanging beside me, with my hand loosely on the grip. This wasn’t going to last more than a few seconds, and he would be gone.
I slowly lifted my camera to my eyes, expecting the magnificent creature to disappear in a flurry of flapping wings.
That didn’t happen.
Instead, he just ignored me and continued with breakfast.
