Nathaniel Adams Coles (March 17, 1919 – February 15, 1965), known professionally as Nat King Cole, was an American singer, jazz pianist, and actor. In 1899, Thomas Edison formed Edison Portland Cement Company and built a massive plant in western New Jersey featuring 150-foot rotating kilns, the largest in the world at that time. Within a decade Edison was the fifth biggest cement producer in the world. His researchers continually improved the cement making process and Edison kept patenting them. Altogether, this illustrious inventor holds forty-nine patents relating cement manufacturing. Edison’s dream was the mass production of cheap concrete houses. He patented a process by which homes could be cast in a single continuous pour instead of pouring floor by floor. But that’s not all. Aside from walls and floors, Edison wanted every interior structure baths, toilets, sinks, cabinets, beds, and even refrigerators and pianos all made of concrete. This is how they sit today decaying away. Count Juan Raphael Dante (born John Timothy Keehan; February 2, 1939 – May 25, 1975) was an American martial artist figure during the 1960s and 1970s. This video was alot of fun to make. I love the whole John Keehan aka Count Dante story. I never read a story about anyone quite like it, So i was hooked right from the start! I have been researching & traveling all around Chicago to find these locations so i can visit & records these historical Chicago locations. I really hope you like what i put together to share with you All. This one means alot to me. Keehan was born in Beverly, Chicago, on February 2, 1939, His father, Jack, was a physician and director of the Ashland State Bank, and his mother, Dorothy, often appeared on the society pages of the Chicago Tribune. Keehan attended Mount Carmel High School. Most notable of the early masters he trained under was sensei Robert Trias. Keehan, after gaining his black belt in karate, went on to become a sensei himself. In 1967, Keehan legally changed his name to Count Juan Raphael Danté, Keehan was prone to boasts that furthered his reputation, his most notorious one being that he'd participated in secret "death matches" in Thailand and China, winning by killing opponents in front of crowds numbering in the thousands. He began heavily promoting himself via comic book ads as the Deadliest Man Alive. One had only to mail order his instructional booklet World's Deadliest Fighting Secrets (in which he outlined the "Dance of Death") to also receive a free Black Dragon Fighting Society membership card. These comic book ads account for much of Count Dante's lasting notoriety in pop culture. They read Yes, this is the DEADLIEST and most TERRIFYING fighting art known to man and WITHOUT EQUAL. Its MAIMING, MUTILATING, DISFIGURING, PARALYZING and CRIPPLING techniques are known by only a few people in the world. An expert at DIM MAK could easily kill many Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, Aikido, and Gung Fu experts at one time with only finger-tip pressure using his murderous POISON HAND WEAPONS. Instructing you step by step thru each move in this manual is none other than COUNT DANTE — THE DEADLIEST MAN WHO EVER LIVED. The Chicago Dojo War incident of April 24, 1970, where Dante and some of his students performed a dojo storm on Green Dragon Society's Black Cobra Hall. Upon storming the school, they attacked the rival dojo's students. The brief battle resulted in the death of one of Dante's friends and fellow sensei, Jim Koncevic. Former mob lawyer Robert Cooley states in his autobiography When Corruption was King that he represented Count Dante during the trial following the 1970 Dojo War incident. Cooley recalls that Dante was ultimately acquitted but not before both sides were given a stern lecture by the judge citing everyone at fault. Cooley also suggests that Dante was a mastermind in the notorious 1974 Chicago Purolator vault robbery in which the amount of $4.3 million was stolen. While not one of the suspects in the trial, Dante was allegedly questioned by Illinois grand jury and ultimately passed a lie detector test. Dante died shortly before the trial was completed which resulted in the conviction of all but one person involved. Count Dante died in his sleep of internal hemorrhaging caused by a bleeding ulcer, on May 25, 1975. Campbell Family Cemetery in Valparaiso Indiana. This was believed to be the second oldest family in the area! Please Respect this place if you visit. S. A. Campbell, one of the pioneers of Porter County, was born in Chautauqua County, N. Y., February 8, 1821, and is the eldest of three sons born to Adam S. and Polly (Adams) Campbell, and the only one now living. His parents were born, brought up and married in the State of New York. They came Westward when our subject was twelve years of age, and settled in Morgan Prairie, in Porter County. Mr. Campbell was Justice of the Peace, School Commissioner, and served one term in the State Legislature as a Democrat; he died in August, 1850, but Mrs. Campbell is still living with her son, and eighty-four years old. Our subject came to this county with his parents in 1833, and remained with them until of age; he attended the first school taught in this county, on Section 8 of this township, in 1834 and 1835. On March 13, 1847, he was married to Harriet Cornell of Wayne County, Ohio, but then residing here; she died in June, 1864, leaving a family of four children - Myron and Marvin (twins), Otto and Helen, wife of D. Eastburn, of Benton County, Ohio; his second marriage, to Elizabeth (Bartholomew) Finney, took place September 21, 1875; she is a daughter of Jeremiah Bartholomew, and was born March 11, 1822, her parents coming to the county in 1834. In politics, Mr. Campbell is a Democrat, and has been Township Trustee for many years; he is a member of the Blue and Chapter Lodges, also of the Commandery of Masons. Mrs. C. is a member of the Presbyterian Church. The Campbells are perhaps the second oldest family in Porter County, the oldest being the Morgans, of Westchester Township. Much of its open space is unkempt and is in need of routine maintenance. The pool at Hatcher Park is currently not operating. The pool area is enclosed with a chain link fence topped with barbed wire, a safety concern that is also aesthetically uninviting to potential swimmers and to the community in general." We had no idea that this old abandoned house we were about explore was the fo;ks from Hower Funeral home in Gary Indiana! What a suprise to find this by accident. Hower Funeral home was established in 1934. Family owned since then until it closed. I believe the last owner & operator was Violet Hower "Vye" James, Of Gary, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillvillle. Preceded in death by husband, Edward "Doc" James; parents, Victor and Ollie Hower; brother, Victor "Sonny" Hower Jr. Violet was a graduate of Bishop Noll Institute and Worsham College of Mortuary Science. She was also a retired licensed cosmetologist and beautician.
