How Should Western Christians View the Israel-Palestine Conflict? Middle Eastern Christians Respond
How Should Western Christians View the Israel-Palestine Conflict? A Middle Eastern Christian Perspective.
In this episode of the Mouseion, I am joined by three Middle Eastern Christians with roots in the Holy Land (Israel and Palestine) that share their life experiences and points of view. This episode is not designed to tell anyone how to think, but instead to introduce this minority community into a conversation dominated in the media by uplifting one side or the other. The Middle East, including the Holy Land, is a very diverse place and there are many perspectives that are often ignored or lost against the broader dichotomy pushed by various governments and the differing media apparatuses. It is my hope that this conversation will help us break out of an "A vs. B" dichotomy and instead have a more nuanced approach to the conversation. We prefer to be peace-makers.
We ask our listeners and viewers to pray for all the peoples of the Holy Land and especially pray for those of us in this podcast.
Glossary:
Abouna - "Father" (lit. "our Father" in Arabic, though also in Modern Aramaic); this is one of the ways in which Eastern Christians address priests.
Shamosho - Deacon (Aramaic/Syriac - Western Dialect)
Shammas - Deacon (Arabic)
Malphono - Professor, teacher (Syriac - Western Dialect)

The Babylonian Cuneiform of the Georgia Guidestones (Translation of the Akkadian language portion)
What did the Akkadian inscription of the Georgia Guidestones say? In this video, I read and provide my own translation of what the ancient Akkadian portion of the inscription says, or at least is trying to say (I would have created a different translation for the Akkadian portion of the Guidestone). I suspect that the translator swapped the English with Akkadian words from a dictionary, when a better method would have been to follow the natural patterns of text in similar statements that we've discovered are prevalent in Akkadian..
The recently destroyed Georgia Guidestones were a series of 4 large monolithic stones bearing 8 inscriptions in modern languages. A headstone above had a short inscription in four languages: Greek, Egyptian, Sanskrit, and "Babylonian Cuneiform". What the monument site referred to as Babylonian Cuneiform is generally otherwise referred to as Akkadian, the language of ancient Babylonian and Assyria.

The Mouseion - The Professor Wingert Podcast - No. 009 Chris Estafanous - The Reintroduction to Pain
In this episode of the Mouseion, I speak with Dr. Chris Estafanous on the topic of PAIN. Do people understand or experience pain differently? Is there a clinical way to perceive, approach, and treat pain, whether it is acute or chronic? Can pain help us transcend our present status and improve our lives?
Dr. Estafanous is a DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) who has a sincere desire to help others return to their premorbid level of function. His clinical experience has taught him when treating a patient, it is crucial to not just work with the patients as numbers but as human beings that have feelings and emotions. As a physical therapist, he strives to provide the best quality care for his patients but in a way where they see him not only as their therapist but as someone who genuinely cares for them and wants their best interest.
He specializes Orthopedics, Manual Therapy, Sports Medicine, Sports Conditioning, Injury Prevention, Ergonomic Education, Functional Movement Screening.
Chris Estafanous is also a co-host of the Reintroduction Podcast. The Reintroduction Podcast aims to reintroduce Christianity to those who may have acquired their understanding early on but who wish to relearn their faith after growing older. "Who is God? Who am I? In a world with much confusion, we often attribute qualities to God and one another that are unfair or untrue. The truth of God has been preserved in the teachings of the Orthodox Church for centuries."

The Mouseion - The Professor Wingert Podcast No. 005 Rev. Dr. WC Hopkins: The Multi-Platform Pastor
In this episode of the Mouseion, Professor Wingert speaks with the Rev. Dr. Wayne C. Hopkins on the position of the multi-platform pastor. Previous literature has used the term bi-vocational to describe pastors who work secular jobs in addition to running church communities. Rev. Hopkins argues that the more appropriate designation that should be utilized for full time ministers with jobs outside the church is "the multi-platform pastor."
The Rev. Dr. Wayne C. Hopkins is a native of Greenville, South Carolina, where he started his life-long love of learning, music, and service. In 2015, he became the senior pastor of First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, which serves a diverse and rapidly emerging community. In 2020, Wayne completed his doctoral studies in a joint program with the New Theological Seminary of the West, and the New York Theological Seminary. His dissertation focused on the unique experience of bi-vocational pastors, and the impact of transformational leadership on churches facing the future. In addition to his pastoral duties, he is a Manager of Administrative Services for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, a premier non-profit organization.
An experienced Mentor, Wayne continues to work with a number of youth and young adults in transition, and often speaks of ‘building bridges’ between families, or even between an individual’s present and future self. He often teaches that you are not your “best” somebody until you have “blessed” somebody. Try to be a blessing today.

Mouseion #004 Fr Shiryl Mathai - ANTI-THEOLOGY: The Cobra Kai Rabbit Hole
ANTI-THEOLOGY episodes: I am joined by Fr. Shiryl Mathai, a priest of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church in North America serving the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. As an Orthodox Christian priest, Fr. Shiryl is often inclined to give wisdom or a caring word when he speaks. However, when he enters the Mouseion, he is forbidden from doing so in episodes that we refer to as Anti-Theology. Instead, Fr. Shiryl will reflect on old school topics with Professor Wingert as dictated by flow.
In this episode of the Mouseion, Fr. Shiryl and I reflect on the relationship between Cobra Kai and the Karate Kid films from the perspective of those who first saw the Karate Kid films when they first came out. We also discuss how getting lost in an online rabbit hole like 90s based Houston hip-hop can serve as way in which young people today can rediscover the forerunner films to popular series today.

"You're my liver!" Language as a Code for Mental Interaction (The Mouseion w/Professor Wingert)
Languages are fundamentally codes for the interaction of one mind with another.
This clip is taken from a conversation between Dr. Michael Wingert and Fr. George Bassous in regards to learning Middle Eastern languages--specifically Syriac (Aramaic). Many Eastern Christians are functional polyglots (speakers of multiple languages), and perceiving language as a code is regularly lost in the learning of grammar and vocabulary. In short, languages are exercises that humans use to convey mental intention from one person to any other(s).
