New Mexico Mining Museum
The first time I was in Grants New Mexico with @Liveintheadventure we discovered the mining museum but sadly it was closed when we passed through. While we were in town for the Balloon Fiesta, we made time to swing by Grants again to check out El Malpais and the mining museum. Do note it is a small museum, but it is well worth a visit if you are in the area. When we visited admission was $6 for adults.
The underground portion is absolutely amazing and there are audio clips of various miners talking about the equipment shown along with lights to illuminate various items being mentioned. I included a short segment of one of the audio clips, but out of respect to the museum, and those who took time to make the recordings, I am not going to release the full audio.

Doing Some Print For Hire
I put this video out since I am off doing stuff with Danielle from @Liveintheadventure so enjoy a time-lapse compilation from a recent print job I did for an old classmate. While I no longer do this via sites like 3D Hubs, I am still happy to crank prints out for those who need them! Once you are done with this video, go check out some of the content Danielle has on her channel.

Just Trains Flat Car View
I decided to throw my GoPro onto the back flat car on my train running on the California Central Coast On30 group during the Just Trains open house. It's a unique view of things, with one mishap along the way! Due to the huge amount of background noise, and to respect the privacy of those having conversations in the area, I just dubbed some music over the train. Just Trains is a much smaller than normal setup, but still has enough action to keep operators busy trying to prevent head-on collisions, and on slow periods you can still get some operations in too.

BuildTak Nylon Review
It works! Do I need to say any more? For what they charge, it is way simpler for me to just grab a sheet of this and get busy. I do believe this could be used on a "flex plate" but I would talk to BuildTak before doing that.

This Leak Plagued Me For Years!
I didn't mention it in the video but the issue I was having was the coolant was not traveling from the recovery bottle, back into the radiator, and over time that caused the radiator to run low on coolant and cause issues. I tried a new hose and radiator cap, but no luck! I would have sworn the issue was in my heating loop, which pulls off the engine coolant line, so I threw the dye in thinking I would find a hose was failing, etc...
I grabbed my UV dye from AutoZone, but it can be found online too. Check to make sure it is compatible with the fluid you will be mixing it with. I found that the UV light and glasses were not a huge help, but your results may vary. Working in a dark environment, which I did not have available, is a huge help!
After I found the issue was in the recovery bottle cap, I grabbed a new one off eBay for under $20 and had it switched out in literally under a minute. Happy to report the issue has been fixed, although I am keeping the dye in the loop as a safety precaution just in case! The only drawback is if you go to work on the cooling system it is slightly more messy, but a small price to pay for being able to spot leaks very definitively.

Polymaker Polymide PA6 GF Initial Impressions
To be 100% transparent, I purchased this with my own money from Amazon. Polymaker had no role to play in this video other than selling the filament. One thing I didn't mention in the video is this has a bit of a "rough" texture, but that also provides a nice grip surface if that's what you are after.

Ardenwood Historic Farm Narrow Gauge Loop Ride
Sorry if the audio gets clipped in spots. The locomotive/rail noise was way louder than anticipated so the poor Tascam was doing its best.
I shot this on the second to last train of the day during Rail Fair, while I was taking a break from the California Central Coast On30 train layout. The train ride began and terminated at, Deer Park station. In the past, it would run between Ardenwood station by the entrance, and Deer Park at the back side of the park. For those looking for a unique "prototype" model railway, this may be worth checking out.

Ardenwood Rail Fair 2023 Highlights
I decided to put together a "highlights" reel from Ardenwood Rail Fair 2023. It has been quite a few years since I have been out there and it felt amazing to be back. While I did not have a ton of equipment, the trains I did bring got a lot of run-time and attention.
A massive thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Ardenwood, and with the groups presenting. And to all the adults and kids who came by, asked questions, and enjoyed the trains. Thanks, it makes the hard work worth it!
In order of appearance in the video:

Is This The Final GoPro Rig?
After our trip to the Grand Canyon, Danielle and I found a few issues with the GoPro rig that needed addressing before some upcoming trips we had planned. Thankfully it was nothing major, but best to find them now vs. later when we are in the field wondering what we can do to get by!

1961 Corvair Lakewood Update Feat: My Dad
While I was down visiting my family for the weekend, my dad was able to not only get the Corvair moved, but he was also happy to give an update on where the project is at. I gave him a 5-second crash course in how to film with the GoPro and let him loose with it! This is not intended to be a showroom-quality rebuild by any means, this is more or less my dad just trying to finish another car project off the list. Personally, I love how my dad is using what he has got to make this work. Nothing against the guys who make showroom-quality builds, but it's always fun to see creativity and necessity drive a project too.
Few specs on the car for those who are curious:
It is a 1961 Corvair Lakewood that he got in 1995.
It has sat in the same spot for over 28 years.
In 2019 my dad decided he was either going to work on it or get rid of it. Various animals had taken up residence inside over the years which did not help.
The engine is made with "good parts" plucked from various engine pieces he had laying around that fit well enough. It isn't the most powerful, or best running, but it works and that's all he wanted.
The Powerglide transmission is made from the good bits of two transmissions he had that make one transmission that goes forwards and backward.
The floors were totally replaced with some sheet metal he had laying around that was cut/bent/welded into shape.
It is by no means done, but it ran and stopped good enough to be moved so that's all that mattered! Now that it is in the backyard, it is much easier for him to work on it so hopefully progress will move a little quicker. And don't worry, there are a few 3D printed items he needs still done for this.

The Corvair Move
This is a shortened compilation of getting my dad's 1961 Corvair Lakewood moved from the side yard where it was sitting, around to the backyard. I want to make it clear that the vehicle had a day-move permit from the DMV, and we had contingency plans in place if the car got stuck on the road. Thankfully none of that happened, but better safe than stuck!
A lot had to be cut out of the video, but it took the better part of two days to get the car moved! If you want to check out some of the stuff that never made it to air, I will have a video up on my Patreon that you can check out.

Making The Corner Warehouse
I needed something to go in the left side of my On18 micro layout, and a tiny corner warehouse made the most sense to me. This is for sure one of those made-up-as-I-go projects, and truth be told when I made the layout, I wasn't even intending on putting any structures there. All that aside, I am really excited about how this turned out. In an upcoming episode, I will work on some detail items such as a sign, and blending it into the scene a little more too.
For this project, I used Woodpeckers 1/8" plywood. It's a bit more expensive and harder to cut than the "soft" plywood you can find online but for a portable setup, durability is key! I use the 12 x 9 since that fits my laser, but pick the size that works for you. Aff link: https://amzn.to/3ODymXN

Is This A Hobby Or A Job?
I want to make it clear, this video is 100% my opinion! What you decide to do is your choice, but I would hate to see someone quit their job, invest a ton of money into this, and have it fall flat. If you have successfully/unsuccessfully run a business specializing in offering laser cut/engraved items, I would love to hear it in the comments below. The more knowledge that's out there on the topic, is a good thing.
That being said, the revenue from selling the kits does genuinely help the channel, and I highly appreciate all the orders I receive. But it is not pushing me out of my day job either. Yet!

Filament Printing Stone Engine House Door Covers
In this video, I make the pitch for why filament 3D printing still has a role in 3D printing for model trains, especially for larger items. What genuinely shocked me was how much faster filament printing was for this part, even with the fact that I did not print it in the most efficient orientation. This was printed on my Artillery 3D Sidewinder X2 in Geeetech HS-PLA.

Printing A Stone Engine Shed Entrance
This is a 3D-printed faux stone engine shed entrance for one of the members of the On30 Facebook group. This was one of those "fun to do" projects and it is always nice to be able to help pay it ahead for the model train community. The order was for 4x total, although I showed one being printed in the video on my Artillery 3D Sidewinder X2 in Geeetech HS-PLA.

Bay Area S Scalers Switching Layout
While I was at the 2023 O-Scale West show with the Yosemite Short Line On30 group, next to us was the Bay Area S Scalers small switching setup. For those not familiar with S Scale, it is 1:64 scale, so it falls between HO at 1:87 and O at 1:48 scale. It is a lesser-known scale, but some argue it is the theoretical happy medium between larger models for details and smaller models for scenery.
A huge thanks to the two gentlemen who were operating the layout for not only letting me film but also for chasing me down with a controller to operate it! Turnout at the event was low so I was able to do a lot of switching, and not feel that guilty! Later my friend Fran got on and I was his brakeman for some switching ops.
If you are at all interested in how the layout is operated, or what the Bay Area S Scalers is, links to their website and switching manual are down below.
