Arrested and sentenced to 21 years in prison at 21 years of age. Sentencing day. Being processed into state prison. This is where my journey began in 2003.

Shower time in the county/city jail is entirely different than in a supermax prison. Maximum security to minimum, all the way down to pre-release, every spot has its own way of doing things. A few thoughts I've developed on the mentality of some who pass through the prison system. Some claim to be somebody when it's not the case. You can talk about it or be about it. These are a few items that have been taken out of the prison system over the years due to the nature of what they can do to people if used maliciously. Throughout my time inside I made several stingers to cook with. This was my method. Please don't make one of these at home & start an electrical fire, just use your microwave or stovetop. If you mess with kids you'll have a REAL hard time in prison, even harder if you happen to be in a wheelchair. Try not to get stabbed in the eye either. You won't get a discount on sunglasses later. Crazy Dave was a notoriously wacked out guy I knew for about 6 months. Very few people got close enough to him to even have a conversation. Sometimes people will try to pull your card the second you walk through the door. Happened to me after being re-classified to a new prison. Your first impressions go a long way in the joint. In Prison you have to communicate with the guards at several points throughout your BIT. Never stay in their ear & ALWAYS take a witness if you have to go off tier to speak to a guard. "The wise man doesn't get himself into what the smart man has to get himself out of"

Cautionary Tale!! I watched a guy lose literally everything he had to give over a gambling debt in State Prison. No claims for bankruptcy, you HAVE to kick out when the collector comes knocking. "The wise man doesn't get himself into what the smart man has to get himself out of"

Is it true that you HAVE to join a gang if you go to prison?

Be wary of who tries to give you help inside. The extreme majority of the time there's going to be strings attached whether you realize it or not.

It's not "CAN you fight" but "WILL you fight" in prison. People will try you right out of the gate to see what you're made of.

After you get your sentence handed to you but before you actually end up in the prison you'll be doing time in, everyone has to go through an intake process.
