KXIX-TV 19 NEWSCAST [1978] - Victoria, Texas
10 PM Newscast on Fri. night, Dec. 29th, 1978. - - From videotape & recorded as it happened. Now KVCT, the station was founded in 1969 by KIII-TV 3 in Corpus Christi as a translator. It was sold in 1976 & operated out of a small building & a trailer out on the Port Lavaca Hwy. A tiny UHF station back then, they ran a mere 15KW effective radiated power visual. (That's compared to 5 Million watt UHFs in larger markets). KXIX was an ABC affiliate at the time, but left the air sometime in the 90's & returned as a TBN affiliate, but no longer. As of this writing, it's a FOX affiliate. Back when we had a free country, people REPORTED the news rather than injecting their own bias and snide insinuations that are so prevalent today. Sometimes Ch. 19 had a problem being picked up 5 miles away, but they did a pretty good job on the news overall. The few commercials at the end were recorded about 2 years later and this was the first & only TV station in Victoria at the time. This is 100% real & expert "know-it-alls" that think it isn't are dopey kids or just plain ignorant. .TV Broadcasting began in Texas in 1948. I've made a few short edits & was 24 years old when I recorded it . The idea was to try to capture "the station" itself, rather than just than just a single program. - If that makes any sense.
NTSC System M, - Antenna 495 ft. AGL, 500-506 MHz (CH 19)
REMOVED from YouTube & placed here.
At least it's saved online somewhere before I die. . Other than that, it's just history.
Might as well upload it after more than 40 years of sitting on a shelf. . . Cheers.
