All Nations International April 26, 2015 Floyd McClung - "What does God look like?"
Floyd McClung’s young daughter once asked him, “What does God look like?” He doesn’t look like a mean old grandpa, an exacting judge, or Santa Claus. God looks like Jesus—welcoming little children, talking to the Samaritan woman, saving the wedding feast. Floyd tells the story of throwing a birthday party for Jesus in the red light district of Amsterdam, where the party-goers brought gifts for Jesus—poems, songs, cookies. A prostitute came to the party and, without anything else to offer, offered herself as a gift to Jesus. We all have images of God in our heads, and it is a lifelong process of getting rid of the inaccurate images. Jesus wants to break into our lives, dispelling the untrue pictures of himself.
Floyd McClung is the founder and leader of All Nations, an international movement of churches and church planters. All Nations partners with existing local churches to send short term and long-term church planting teams to more than 30 different countries. All Nations provides specialised training courses in Kansas City, Missouri, Tainan, Taiwan and Cape Town, South Africa.
Floyd has spoken on more than 100 university campuses and has traveled to 193 countries. He is the author of fourteen books, including the best-selling books, The Father Heart of God and Living on the Devil’s Doorstep, Follow, and You See Bones – I See an Army. He graduated from Vanguard University in 1967 with a BA degree in New Testament studies.
Floyd and his wife Sally were married in 1967. They have two children and two grand children. In 1970 they pioneered a live-in community in Kabul, Afghanistan for young Westerners traveling on the hippy trail. The McClung’s moved to Amsterdam, Holland in 1973 to establish an inner-city church planting ministry, which eventually grew to over 300 staff and volunteers.
During the years the McClungs lived in Amsterdam they developed a passion for establishing missional communities among the poor and most neglected peoples of the world. This led to them establishing All Nations Family, a network of churches, communities and individuals who share a common vision and values to make disciples, train leaders and ignite church planting movements.
The McClungs live in Cape Town, South Africa where they serve on the leadership team of a missional community that equips church planters to work among the poor and unreached in Africa and Asia.
