Top Ten Biggest Man-Made Changes To The Natural World
People have left a definite physical mark on the planet. Sometimes this mark is made accidentally, but many times it is intentional. This occurs even when that purpose may be destructive. This video covers the top ten biggest man-made changes to the natural world.
First on the list is Lake Peigneur in Louisiana. As the video states, when an oil drill hit a salt mine, it turned an eleven feet deep lake into a thirteen hundred feet deep sinkhole. This was devastating to this aquatic habitat.
Next is Betsiboka Estuary in Madagascar. Removal of the native forest has caused massive soil erosion. How massive? 112 tons per acre annually! This is monstrous.
Number eight on the list is Three Gorges Dam in China. Building the world’s largest power station may have been monumental and at the forefront to many people’s visions, but the downside of this destroyed people’s lives. 1.3 million people were displaced because of this.
Number seven is The Scottish Highlands in Scotland. Scotland is known for its natural landscape beauty and breathtaking scenery. The Highlands were once vast forests stretching on for miles without end. They were the epitome of perfection and tranquility. However, they have been razed by farmers and the ancient Romans for the last 3,900 years. Devastation such as this destroys so much more than just a few trees. This cuts much deeper into our beautiful planet, and there is monumental loss on the earth.
Next is the Amazon Deforestation Project in Brazil. This was actually done in the name of science. A massive study was done in order to understand the effects of deforestation. The problem is that in order to complete the study, huge swaths of rainforest were cut down. This seems to be defeating the entire purpose of studying the problems of deforestation.
The Aral Sea in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is another extreme example. This was once the fourth largest lakes in the world. However, it no longer stands the same. This may be the most visible difference on the list, and it is absolutely gut wrenching to see the location as it stands today. The Aral Sea was drained by the Soviet irrigation policy.
Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah is the world’s deepest open pit mine. If it were a stadium, it could seat nine million people.
Bravo Crater in Bikini Atoll provides another shocking example. The United States government dropped fifteen megatons of TNT on the island. This created a crater that now stands 6,500 feet wide. This seems absolutely heartless on the government’s part, and it shows a blatant disregard for the natural earth.
Second to last on the list is the Hull-Rust-Mahoning Mine in Minnesota. This open pit iron mine is three and a half miles wide. It was yielded 690 million tons of iron ore that humans have stolen from the earth for our own purposes.
The last example is the Great Wall of China. This wonder of the world is over 2,300 years old, and it spans more than 13,000 miles.

Top Ten Animals That Could Be Brought Back From Extinction
Thanks to some scraps of DNA and a lot of scientific ingenuity there's hope that some long-extinct creatures may walk the Earth again. The first up is the Raphus Cucullatus. This animal is more commonly known as the Dodo bird. This is the flightless bird native to the tiny island of Mauritius. This bird was killed for food because it was so easy for people to catch.
Next up is the Tympanuchus Cupido Cupido: The Heath Hen. The likely feature at the Pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving dinner, this bird made quite a filling meal. These animals were plentiful in the early 1900s, but they were literally eaten out of existence.
The Neomonachus Tropicalis was the Carribean Monk Seal. This was originally known as the sea wolf. This creature was a tragedy of the human population as well. Humans first depleted their fish, then hunted them to extinction for their oil.
The Megaloceros Giganteus, or Irish Elk, was once the largest deer to ever walk the earth. These beautiful and majestic creatures stood twelve feet high. They died out toward the end of the Ice Age.
Number five on the list is Thylacinus Cynocephalus. This is also known as the Tasmanian Tiger. This was the biggest marsupial of modern times. It is quite a strange looking creature, and it almost looks like it is a cross between a few different animals. The last of these tigers of Tasmania died at the Hobart Zoo in 1936.
The Dinornis Novaezealandiae was the Moa: A giant flightless bird that once inhabited New Zealand. Moa were wiped out by Polynesian settlers, who hunted them for food.
The Bos Primigenius was the Aurochs, and it is the ancestor of domestic cattle. The last recorded live aurochs died in 1627 from natural causes unfortunately. Even if it does look incredibly similar to the cattle we see today, it is not the same animal.
The Coelodonta Antiquitatis or Woolly Rhino, was depicted on cave walls in France thirty thousand years ago. It resembles a cross between a rhino and a wooly mammoth. The worst part of this animal’s story is that they survived through the Ice Age, but they were ultimately exterminated by human hunting. The number of species of animals who were run into extinction because of human interaction is staggering and sickening. This beautiful creature was one of these casualties.
The Smilodon Fatalis was the saber toothed cat. This cat is a pretty recognized iconic image with most people. It was a lion sized predator with long canine teeth. These beautiful creatures went extinct after the Ice Age over eleven thousand years ago.
At the end of the list is Mammuthus Primigenius. This may quite possibly be the most iconic extinct creature that ever existed. Everyone knows the wooly mammoth. Even children’s movies depict this animal. They are the classic symbol of the Ice Age. Unbelievably, scientists are actually trying to bring these animals back into existence. They plan to use a surrogate elephant to perform this feat.

Top Ten Hardest Prisons To Escape From
Criminals sometimes find themselves where they do not want to be. Some of the prisons in this country are known for being the hardest prisons to escape from. Number ten is a prison in China that has the tallest watch area in the world and sits three thousand feet above sea level. The China prison was built to hold the most dangerous criminals of the Chinese Democracy Movement.
Number nine is a prison in Syria known for prisoners not having the chance to escape and the survival is very slim. The Syria prison is located in the middle of a desert and even scary, there is only one way in and one way out. You have to crawl through an underground tunnel to enter and exit.
Number eight is the prison in Indiana with the minimal number of guards but is one of the worst prisons to try to escape from in the U.S. The prison boasts high security through fingerprint detection - there are 360 degree cameras and facial recognition, and biometric locks on each cell.
Number seven is in Japan and it houses the most dangerous criminals in Japan. No one has ever been able to escape from this Japan prison. The prison is so locked down that the details of the prison have always been kept secret.
Number six is in Massachusetts which has the most technologically enhanced security system. The security system was designed by MIT, one of the technologically advanced schools in U.S. Cameras are everywhere and monitor every move inside all day long.
Number five is Alcatraz in the U.S. which has been known for its attempt escapes. Some of the most noticeable celebrities and criminals of the U.S. such as Al Capone, Whitney Bulgar, and Rafael Miranda. There have been fourteen attempts with five escapees unaccounted for and they are presumed dead by drowning. Some escapes from Alcatraz have been investigated for decades.
Number four is in India, the oldest, largest, and most overpopulated prison in India which is known for its inhumane conditions. The cells and walls are surprisingly bomb proof, no one coming in or out.
Number three is in France which is known for its brutal and secure levels of security. It looks like a brick with carved out holes for prisons. Prisoners have attempts to escape through the sewage pipes and the pipes were closed off leading to the prisoners being suffocated.
Number two is in Cuba, known for being near impossible to escape. It is one of the most unique prisoners in the world as it sits in the middle of an American Military Base. The highest profiles criminals live here and one prisoner is watched by twelve guards.
Number one is in Colorado, known as the Alcatraz of the Rockies and is considered the most secure supermax prison in the world. Prisoners are locked into their cells for twenty three hours a day. One hour is given for leisure time.
It is a wonder why anyone would commit a crime to live in such places as the hardest prisons to escape from.

Top Ten Animals Brought Back From The Brink Of Extinction
Thanks to some scraps of DNA and a lot of scientific ingenuity, there's hope that some long-extinct creatures may walk the Earth again. This video will teach you about ten animals that have been “brought back from the brink of extinction.” Check it out!
The world is negatively affected every time a species gets endangered population wise and when a species goes extinct. This video gives very important and useful information that all of humanity needs to pay attention to see that we as a species can help protect the current animals that are nearing extinction. Knowledge is power; if we do not have the knowledge and are not aware of these species and how we are affecting them, we are powerless to help. That does not do anyone any good. Learning about these species is the first step.
The first species discussed in the video is the Pygmy Tarsier which is one of the smallest mammals in the world, and also the most vulnerable. For over 80 years, researchers thought they were extinct. This changed when one of these beautiful creatures was found in a mousetrap in Indonesia in 2000.
The Przewalski’s Horse is a wild Mongolian horse almost went extinct due to inbreeding with domesticated horses. It would be devastating to completely lose these marvelous animals from the face of the earth. At the turn of the century, farmers in Mongolia successfully bred the species back from extinction.
Little critter Cuban Solenodon has been seen fewer than fifty times since 1861. In the 1970s, it was believed to be extinct. However, researchers found and released one in 2003.
People all over the world have joined forces to help preserve the Giant Panda from extinction, but they are still in danger and in need of protection. There are many theories as to why this species has struggled with population so much; one of these states that the species has such low reproductive numbers because the animals literally are “too lazy” to reproduce and are more focused on food. Due to deforestation and trouble reproducing, this species almost went extinct completely not that long ago. China has made substantial efforts to create new habitats and to help the species breed; this has allowed pandas to thrive a bit more in recent years.
This is an example of how humans can turn around some of these issues if there is a little bit of time and care taken to try to help a fellow creature in the world. This is especially important since many of these species have gone extinct or neared extinction as a result of how humanity has somehow interfered with either their natural habitats or poaching or any other number of reasons.
To learn about the rest of these incredible and interesting species, keep watching this video! What do you think about this video? Make sure you tell us more in the comments down below. If you like what you see, don’t forget to share it with others who might like it as well. It just might be the highlight of their day! Enjoy!

Stray Dogs Ride On Moscow’s Subway On A Daily Basis
If you happen to be riding the subway in Moscow be sure to bring along a dog biscuit or two. Strays in the city know how to get around on the subway, which makes it official: commuting is for the dogs.
Watch this amazing video of stray dog’s learning their way around Moscow’s subway system. These smart canines have figured out how to ride escalators, make their way through busy lobbies and get onto the subway, just like any other Moscow citizen. Packs of wild dogs are finding warm, safe corners of the Subway to cuddle up and get a good night’s sleep. They can be found all over the subway and are completely harmless. They have become a part of the Subway and most people don’t even notice anymore.
These stray pups have taught themselves how to properly navigate the city’s subway and it really is impressive! They can be seen walking around with the people coming and going to work. Some dogs live in the subway full time while others “commute” from the suburbs. These clever canines travel downtown on the subway on a daily basis, going to find where there are more people and more food. They know which stations to get off there they will find tourists and large masses of people who are willing to sneak the dogs a treat when no one is looking.
These smart little dogs don’t mind being in crowded platforms and love to get attention when a passerby reaches down for a little petting. They have even taught themselves how to use escalators to get around. This video shows them walking up the escalators on their way to their destination. They know to recognize their destinations based on smell, landmarks and even the announcer’s voice. Just like any other dog, they are capable of understand certain words and learn what those words mean.
These stray dogs actually ride in the subway cars beside the people. Daily commuters have made friends with these canines and know to bring treats and food for them and often cuddle up with the dogs while on the subway, giving them some much needed attention. Friendly passengers are remembered by these smart pups and they know to look for them everyday on the subway, hoping to get more food and be pet while on their travels.
When the day comes to an end and there are no more people, these crafty canine commuters head home or go back to their subway space for the evening until the morning comes and they do it all over again! Just like all of the passengers on the Moscow subway, these dogs have a job to do and it really is amazing to see the people and dogs live and travel together in such harmony! No one seems to mind them on the Subway, actually it is the opposite. Many daily commuters look forward to see their favorite pooch everyday and most pack food and treats to give them on their way to and from work.

Our Changing Climate Is Making Hurricanes Stronger
If you are wondering why hurricanes seem to be getting worse over the years this video will explain to you why. Hurricanes and tropical storms seems to last longer, dump much more rain with high winds and travel much further inland towards cities that are not capable or ready for such storms. Guess why?
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana with 38 cm (15 inches) of rain. While in 2017, Hurricane Harvey dumped over 150 cm (60 inches) of rain on Texas. Why did one hurricane drop more water than the other hurricane?
The answer is simple. Climate change! Climate change is described as a change in the distribution of weather patterns that lasts for an extended period of time (decades to millions of years). Certain human activities have been known to be the primary cause of climate change on the planet, also known as global warming.
Rising ocean temperatures are causing hurricanes to become more devastating than ever. Oceans capture over 90% of that excess heat that comes from our emissions. As humans, we cause emissions by using air pollutants and chemicals by burning coal and other fossil fuels, in cement production, in deforestation and other landscaping operations. Humans emitted roughly 40 billion metric tons of carbon monoxide just in 2015 alone. Still wondering why Hurricane Harvey was worse than Hurricane Katrina?
As a hurricane travels over the ocean, it can pick up the ocean's heat. The heat fuels the hurricane, causing faster wind speeds and strengthening the storm. As the strong hurricane winds travel over the hot ocean's surface, it make the water much easier to evaporate. This evaporation requires a lot of energy, so the warmer the temperatures are at the ocean's surface, the more energy is created, making the storm stronger and larger.
The heat also allows the hurricane to hold more precipitation. The scientific term for this is called cyclone. Only tropical cyclones that occur over the Atlantic or Pacific ocean are called Hurricanes. They are like giant cyclones that use warm and moist air created by the ocean's hot temperatures as fuel. This is why hurricanes usually only occur over the ocean and typically close to the equator.
And the ocean heat isn't just affecting hurricanes, but all storms in general. According to NASA, rainfalls snowstorms have increased by 76% since 1948. And the intensity and duration of of hurricanes over the North Atlantic have increased in frequency and strength since the early 1980's, producing many more category 4 and 5 storms.
The problem isn't going away any time soon. Hurricanes and tropical storms will continue to get worse as the human race continues to burn up fossil fuels and emit carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Cities will not only need to improve their infrastructure and reevaluate their evacuation plans, but we will all as a planet need to come up with a plan to use much more clean energy and listen to our Mother Earth if we want make a difference.
Humans will need to cut down on emissions and use more clean energy. Because if we don't...we will be seeing much more of this!

Imagine Being Stuck In The Longest Traffic Jam In The World
If you think that you have been stuck in some ridiculous traffic jams, you won't believe what drivers in China are dealing with on a daily basis! Check out the longest traffic jam in the world, which happened in 2010. They called it the China National Highway 110 Traffic Jam.
You think traffic is bad on your way home? Many of us would consider a 30 minute backup of cars on the highway a complete drag, stuck in a hot car inching down the highway. Imagine getting stuck here for upto 5 days going only 0.6 miles (1 km) a day.
China's 50 lane highway turned every drivers nightmare into a reality. Over 10,000 cars and trucks were completely stuck on at least 100 km's of highway in China, virtually turning the road into a parking lot. It is a very clear problem when a 50 lane highway can jam up the far for that long!
Congestion slowed down thousands of vehicles for 62 miles (100 km) and lasted an unbelievable 12 days! Some drivers literally lived in traffic for up to 5 days. Cars crawled along at barely more than 0.6 miles (1 km) a day.
This massive traffic tie-up is a recurring problem in China. The traffic on Highway 110 in China has grown approximately 40% a year for the past several years, making this a major concern for the Chinese. At the time of the China National Highway 110 Traffic Jam, the Highway was 60% over capacity, with over 10,000 vehicles inching only 1 km per day. The congestion slowed down thousands of vehicles for 62 miles (100 km)
This massive traffic tie-up was due to road construction, and compounded by a transportation network that has been over capacity for years. It was largely due to heavy transport trucks heading to Beijing during a huge coal production in Mongolia. The excess of trucks on top of the road construction that had recently begun caused traffic to become so overloaded that it just stopped, unable to fit everyone on the Highway. Minor breakdowns, accidents and improper paperwork for coal carrying transport trucks also aided in the problem. Police requested that coal mining company suspend operations and halt transportation until the traffic jam was resolved.
Enterprising locals came to sell them food and water - at inflated prices, of course! They stood at the edge of the highway selling items such as instant noodles, cigarettes and bottles of water. Their prices were raised due to the fact the drivers were stuck and had to pay them. Drivers had to spend 15 yuan for a bottle of water which would normally cost 1 yuan. Some local vendors created mobile convenient stores on bicycles travelling down the highway selling items at triple the cost.
To avoid gridlock, many Chinese prefer bikes and public transportation. 30 minutes in a packed subway beats 3 days in a crawling car.
What is the worst traffic jam you have been in? Has it been anything like the one in this video?

Ten Deep Sea Creatures That Seem To Come From Another World
The ocean can be a very scary place. Many people fear the ocean because of how big it is and how much about it we do not know. There can be some scary creatures down there that we have never heard of. If you are someone who is scared of the ocean, watching this video will not help you. Most people are aware of lots of ocean animals. The ones we know are usually close to the surface level and others can be seen at the beach, movies, or an aquarium. These sea animals can be jellyfish, fish, sharks, whales, dolphins, stingrays, and many more.
They can be scary, such as sharks, but most would consider them scary because they can be dangerous. The real creepy looking creatures live in the depths of the sea where there is no light. Most people do not know what is down there because we have never been down there and these creatures aren’t in aquariums. This video discusses 10 deep sea creatures that look like they come from another world. Be prepared to be creeped out and amazed!
One of the crazy creatures that live in the oceans is Chauliodus sloani. It is also known as Sloane’s viperfish. Just the name alone sounds pretty terrifying, a viperfish. Viper is a popular deadly snake and this fish looks like it can be deadly as well. It looks like it has the body of a common long fish but once its face is shown, it looks different. It has big beady eyes and giant sharp teeth. It is sure to scare anyone that comes in contact with it. Another scary fish is bathysaurus ferox, better known as deep-sea lizardfish. This actually does look like a big lizard that swims on the bottom of the ocean. It has a long thick body and some seriously sharp teeth. You would not expect these creatures to be from our world, but from a fantasy horror movie. It is amazing that they actually belong to our oceans, but in reality, we have never seen them.
One of the interesting creatures on this list is the Kiwaidae. These creatures look like crabs, but are much scarier and usually have characteristics that are different from crabs. The ones shown in this video look like a crab but with long spikes all over it. It looks as if a child wanted to draw a crab but made it much “cooler” by adding spikes to it. It looks pretty frightening and it must hurt to step on one of those! Another is the Psychrolutidae or better known as the blobfish. This is a very creepy fish because it looks like it has the face of a cartoon character. It kind of looks like the face of Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants. It looks funny but at the same time, very creepy. There are many more fish and creatures on this list. The oceans are very interesting places and these deep sea creatures definitely prove that!

Ten Uncommon Food Related Phobias People Suffer From
Lots of people have phobias and they are very common. Phobia is an anxiety disorder where the person has extreme fear of something. There are phobias for nearly anything you can think of. The most common ones are Arachnophobia, which is fear of spiders, Acrophobia, the fear of heights, and Claustrophobia, a fear of closed tight spaces.
These are all pretty reasonable fears and most people either know someone who has it or some even have it themselves. Some more unusual phobias are when people are fearful of food items or food related things. Many people probably haven’t encountered someone with these types of phobias, but this video discusses ten food related phobias you might not know about. There are some very interesting items on this list and you might even think that it was impossible to be scared of some of these things. There are phobias of all kinds and it is important to remember that when watching this video! Are any of these familiar to you?
One of the more interesting phobias that appear on this list is Deipnophobia. This is the fear of dining with others or just dining in general. Most people who suffer from this love to eat alone and by themselves in silence. Don’t mistake this for preferring to be alone and eating, Deipnophobics are actually scared of dining and fear it.
Another one is Oenophobia, which is the fear of wine. Who knew that wine, the alcoholic beverage, can actually make people scared of it or fear it. This problem stems from being unable to choose which wine to drink, both for an event or to drink alone. The inability to choose which wine will satisfy most of the people leads to anxiety, and thus fearing wine and the choice of wine. These are very interesting phobias and they get even more interesting! Keep watching!
Lachanophobia is the fear of vegetables and it gives nausea. This person must have a hard life because vegetables are everywhere. They come as part of almost every meal and are very hard to avoid. They must have some great vegetable substitutes in their diet! Many people in fact have unbalanced diets due to lack of vegetables and experience many problems with their health. This is a very unfortunate phobia since it is taking away a big part of a diet and you are missing out on all the benefits of vegetables.
Even some of the best foods have phobias attached to them, such as peanut butter and chocolate! Arachibutyrophobia, or the fear of peanut butter, stems from people scared they will suffocate while eating peanut butter. Since peanut butter can be pretty thick, people are afraid of suffocating. They really hate when it sticks to the roof of their mouth, this is unfortunate since peanut butter is delicious!
Xocolatophobia is the fear of chocolate and is equally as confusing, since most people love chocolate. They often find it disgusting and must wash their hands immediately after touching anything with it. This list has many more interesting phobias to discuss. It is very interesting to see what types of phobias are out there in the world.

We are beyond impressed with this amazing program catered to the inmates wanting to become better people and more productive members of society. This is something that really should be going on in all prisons. This is definitely without a doubt a controversial issue though. Find out more!
There are many people who believe that this kind of effort and special programs shouldn’t be put into prisons for inmate rehabilitation. The reasoning behind that belief often stems from the thought that inmates have done something they should not have done to even land themselves behind bars in the first place, and therefore, these people believe that putting this much effort, this much time, and this much in resources and extra materials is not only a waste of time, but they also believe it is unfair.
Some may say that these resources are then being taken away from those who have been productive members of society for their entire life and haven’t been involved in activities that would put them in a prison. However, our argument to this belief and mindset would be as follows. Obviously, a common goal for everyone would be the hope and prayer that the number of people committing crimes that put them in prison would reduce. The question is, how do we get there as a society?
Well, growth of a community, society, and nation will always start with education. That is true to any issue, any problem, any community. This education does not only refer to traditional classes or “book learning” either. Education comes in many forms. This group of people have created their own unique form of education through Shakespearean plays and performance. Now, if there are people out there in the world trying to make us a better society as a whole through positive change and positive experience, should we not absolutely be supportive of that?
We understand the point of view about millions of dollars being poured into the prison system, and we get the frustration there. However, sometimes, people have to get past their egos; we have to get past our jealousy and our own shortcomings, and we have to recognize that we have to put in the work and resources to build something meaningful and purposeful. If this experience causes an inmate to be released and stay released without reoffending, then does that not make it totally worth it? We think that it does!
Remember that these are people we are talking about here, not just bodies. These are human beings with families. These are daddies and brothers and sons and husbands. There are people out there who care about them. Specifically, if these programs help even just one inmate to grow as a fellow human being and perhaps raise their child better than they would have otherwise, that right there is enough to make more of a positive impact on the world. That right there makes everything worth it. That is what really matters in life isn’t it?
