How I make more friends
I used to hesitate before sending positivity, reaching out, or texting first
I no longer really hesitate, and I've made better connections with people as a result.
That's not to say some people might not subconsciously keep track of bizarre things like "hmm he liked 5 of my posts but I only liked 1 of his - I'm winning."
But I decided that life was too short to worry about things like that. I'm okay with supporting someone even if they feel like they're better than I am as a result. It just doesn't hurt me.
And YES, of course we should respect people's reasonable boundaries. If someone doesn't want to be our friend, they don't have to be! And if you feel like someone is taking advantage of you, feel free to move on to people who enjoy you more!
But it's been the mindset of supporting, helping, and giving without hidden expectation that's really helped me connect with more people and ultimately have better peace of mind.

POV: it's your first day at the "jim"
Most people know to start with weights they can lift and use heavier ones as they get stronger.
For whatever reason, there's an idea that this somehow doesn't apply in calisthenics.
It makes sense because some exercises might look cleaner or more impressive than others. For example, learning to do a proper full pushup, squat, or pullup with good form is a major milestone for some people - and that's wonderful!
However, at the end of the day, those are just some of the many pushing, squatting, and pulling exercises out there! Depending on your fitness level, they might be too hard, too easy, or just right (Hmm, Goldilocks reference in a future video?).
Yet, there's the stereotypical "just keep trying" mentality. Imagine if you wanted to bench 225 and just kept trying to lift that amount even if it didn't budge. (instead of just starting with a weight you can bench!)
It's okay to test your strength, but spend most of your time doing variations you can do competently with good form. 5+ repetitions can be a rule of thumb, but varies depending on the exercise.
For the examples above, there are also knee pushups, assisted squats, and horizontal pullups!

Are your joints talkative lately?
Joint noise while moving and exercising?
While this can seem concerning, it's not always dangerous - especially if you don't feel pain.
If you DO feel pain, consider finding an easier or different exercise. Sometimes our muscles are strong enough for a movement, but are joints are not. Of course, consult your doctor if concerned!
Anecdotally, I've never known an individual - however strong or healthy - not to occasionally have joint noise. However, this SEEMS to decrease as we get stronger in our full range of motion.
Warming up also seems to help!

How much coffee do you drink? ☕
Why I drink coffee every other day!
Feel free to drink coffee however you like - it's up to you! Some of you may not like it at all.
However, I personally just found that I needed more and more just to feel "normal." A cup to wake up. Then 2 cups, etc. It just seemed more efficient to cycle it throughout the week.
Also, I think it's beneficial to resist our urges (drink coffee) regularly. Or at least have the ability to do so.

I tried Athletic Greens for 3 Months (Unsponsored Review)

Is this stylish hat worth $600?
I kept hearing about the Iron Neck so I decided to buy it and review it!
It's advertised to fix poor posture, prevent neck injuries, back injuries, and more.
I think it can be a valuable tool for athletes - especially those in high-impact sports.
The PRICE will the main barrier to entry for a lot of people. Even for their cheaper models like the 2.0. BUT this usually matters less and less as the athlete gets more serious about their performance.
(A good example would be professional pool players who spend thousands of dollars on cues DESPITE knowing that cheaper cues can work just as well. You get to a point of dedication where you just think "might as well.")
It can still work well for most people. The premise of the Iron Neck isn't complicated - it's simply another form of resistance training for your neck. The manufacturing is solid and they really try to add all possible features you might want.
If you want to explore the world of neck training without spending $600, try bodyweight variations OR cheaper options on their store. Even the "harnesses" attached to light weights can get you an idea of how it feels.
Conclusion:
The product itself is good. If you can afford it without issue, try it out! It's another tool in your arsenal. If not, try some other methods first.

How strong is your grip?
You can train your grip strength at home! Try building up to the double towel hang. It's an uncommon exercise that builds strength (and muscle!) in our palms and forearms.
The "type" of grip strength this uses seems to be different than the ones we use to do pullups or lift barbells. It's not uncommon to struggle at first. Rope climbing uses the same grip!
Training grip AFTER your pull sets for a 2-3 sets is a great way to incorporate grip training.
Simply build up to around 3 sets of 60 seconds on each exercise before moving on!
An older version of this video showed how to build up to a one-arm towel hang. While this is an impressive feat of strength, I got the feeling most people wouldn't care enough to try it. So I recommended the double towel hang instead!
Similarly, a one arm bar hang (which I show here) is a good exercise, but sometimes causes the shoulders to fail before the grip does. So I left it out this time.

Three sets to failure is a good rule of thumb that can be used to accommodate most peoples' fitness goals.
Other set and rep ranges work, of course! In fact, the Hybrid Routine has both higher and lower ones for a variety of reasons.
To be clear though, those are GOAL standards. For example, you do 2-3 sets of Wall Pushups of as many as you can. After you're able to do 3 sets of 50 - move on!
However, I THINK most people watching this aren't on a regimented fitness plan and may be confused as to the different numbers they see.

Always feel exhausted?
I think sometimes we get so bogged in exhaustion and misery that we lose sight of a better life.
I've been in similar places, and I'm really glad I continued taking steps to try to get to a better spot.
I know it's not simple for everyone, but I've found that maintaining this pursuit keeps a bit of hope in my life - which already makes it more enjoyable.

Build a mindset that motivates you
I think our mindset is the foundation for SO MUCH of what we do.
I didn't have time to mention during this video, but changing our minds mindset is often a process - not a "switch."
Hanging out with people who uplift us, teach us, and motivate us to do more helps.
It can be hard to change physical locations (especially if you're in your teens), but you can also get a similar effect by consuming positive content. Think videos, podcasts, articles, books, etc!
It's common in the fitness industry to hear "push yourself out of your comfort zone."
I agree with this, but I think it's also important to find a balance with what feels natural to you.
So the upshot is that you don't have to hang out with people just because they make you uncomfortable.
