We won a food security grant from the USDA and were able to build a high tunnel and get a freeze dryer to preserve what we grow. We decided to grow a good garden this year from nothing. We hauled in some soil and tilled a new garden spot. We rented a small excavator to build our high tunnel and put in some fence posts to keep the moose and the dog out. Finally, we were able to harvest some kale and spinach to see how it turned out in our freeze dryer. It's been a good year for our outdoor crops but our high tunnel crops need a little more help.

This year we did our best to get away from other hunters on our 4 wheelers, but ended up in an area with over 2 dozen hunters. With a lot of work though we managed to harvest a nice 53” bull moose despite the competition.

My buddy Jesse drew an any ram tag for Alaska Dall sheep, so we rafted across a river an headed up into the mountains for a 4 day hunt. We learned a lot as it was our first real sheep hunt.

Overflow is often called glaciation, but it doesn't actually form true glaciers. However, it does cause problems for us in Alaska. The creek in our back yard has started glaciating due to the lack of snow and cold temperatures. Now we have to move our snow machines before they get engulfed in the ever growing ice.

We were able to get a group of guys together to break ground for our off grid cabin. I went back to get the wall tent through an inaccessible canyon and fell through in the process. Even still we were able to get a lot of progress done on the cabin.

We got our mine plan approved with the DNR and are excited to get working on it. The plan includes a cabin for lodging in. This will be a remote, off-grid cabin. In this video we are making our first run in of materials and selecting a location on our mining claim for the cabin. Come along and see how we do it.
