So now I'm going to talk about vibrato. First you need to set up your left hand position the right way. Now we spoke about how to set up your left hand in the first position but now we need to talk about the left hand positioning in the third position because that's where I like to start learning vibrato. Your hand in third position is rested at the shoulder of the instrument. I like also doing the second finger on the A string to start because it's the most centered finger, the strongest finger. My finger is on the tip of the fat of the finger, there's a nice platform here and that's how you start. Then to vibrate what I usually do is, I put a little arrow on the finger going this way; that's the direction the finger has to go in. Back and up. So back and forth, back and forth. And as you can see the knuckle is going down and then it's going up. Going down and going up. So an exercise you can do is, that's an E on the A string, third position and then collapse it, back, back. Then you can do a slur. That's a two note slur. We can do four notes. Or you can do six. Then eight. And until you reach normal vibrato speed. You need to do that kind of vibrato for each one of your fingers. When you vibrate also another issue that you have to think about is your arm position. Now we spoke about correct arm position is you're flat as a pancake here, everything is straight, nothing's sticking out. When you vibrate you do need your wrist; the most popular vibrato is wrist vibrato. So then you would do, this does come out when you flatten the finger a little bit. So the wrist is moving back and forth when you're doing that finger-wrist vibrato. You need to do that with all of the fingers. The only exception is the pinky. The pinky fourth finger does not use as much wrist just because of the physicalness of the actual finger. You're still doing the same motion but it's just a little bit smaller. It's mainly the finger vibrato with just a little bit of wrist. That's how you would start to learn vibrato. Start slow. That's the vibrato.

In Scrabble, players earn points by constructing words with letter tiles and placing them on a grid. Step 4: Choose new tiles After placing a word on the board, draw an equal number of new tiles from the tile bag so that each player always has seven tiles. Step 5: Continue until game ends Continue playing. All letters played must touch at least one letter that is already on the board to form at least one complete word. When one player has used all of their tiles or no one can make any more words, the game ends. Tip If a player uses all seven of their tiles in one turn, they add a 50-point bonus to their word score. Step 6: Challenge words Consult a dictionary only if you're challenging another player's word. If the word isn't in the dictionary, the player loses their turn. If the word is allowed, the challenger loses their turn. Step 7: Calculate the scores Calculate each player's final score by adding up the points from all of their word scores. Then, subtract the sum of their unplayed letters. If one player has used up all of their letters, add the sum of everyone else's unplayed letters to their score. She's going to have her knees bent, feet spread apart, and she's just rocking her hips from side to side. Now as a guy, if I see her dancing like this, and I want to dance with her, I have to come up and match her movement. It's not about coming up and doing a freestyle, and busting out my best moves. Right now it's about finding a connection, and matching her movement. So I'm going to come up and find her groove. And as she's going to side, I'm going to match this with her. I'm going to keep my knees bent, so that I'm at her level. And keep the contact light. You don't need to press into her, like grab onto her, for her to feel that you're dancing with her. Now, if she decides she wants to switch it up, in this case we're going to go to a circle. So the same movement, but now she's going to circle her hips the whole way around. Just making circles. Knees are still bent. Nice and low. She can groove it out. You can add in arms if you want to, but it's not really necessary. The most important thing is your hips. So again, I'm going to come behind her, and I'm going to follow her movement. So whatever she's doing, I'm going to copy this groove. Less is more. When you're going up to dance with a girl, you don't want to freak her out or be aggressive with her. You just want to match her movements. You can use any combination of hip rolls, body rolls, or side to side, to keep things fresh.

So the first thing I want you to understand if you are a man looking at this video and wondering what happens when your female partner is having difficulty having an orgasm is to realize it may not be about you. Often in my clinical practice when women are having difficulty reaching orgasm it's often they have never had an orgasm with a partner and sometimes they can't have an orgasm on their own with self stimulation. We're going to make the water disappear using cups that are clear. I like to rhyme. Watch this. Pour half a cup of water, okay? We can make this water green, just so you can see it more clearly, okay? And I'm going to stir it around, and in this cup, that's going to be our magician's hat or the diaper or just in this case, the disappearing water cup. Now you don't want to use a giant heaping teaspoon and that's not going to be in your diaper anyway. You probably could get about a teaspoon and we're going to pour it in. Guys, you're not allowed to take the powder and pour it into the water, because think about it. When the baby goes to the bathroom are you sprinkling the powder when they go to the bathroom or are they going into the powder? They're going into the powder. So I'm going to take this and I'm going to hold this, okay? I'm going to pour and I'm going to pour quickly. Think about it. When babies go to the bathroom, it's pretty fast, okay? You better get into the bathroom fast, quickly. I'm going to take this and I'm going to pour. Ready, set-- uh, oh liquid, liquids flow. Liquids flow, all of a sudden, I'm going to take this cup. Boys and girls, I'm not a magician. This powder is known to be super-absorbent. When something is absorbent it means it's being sucked up. My shirt could absorb water, okay? Think about a paper towel when you have a spill. Mommy says get a towel. You place the paper towel, the towel will absorb and suck up the water. This powder sucked up the water to the point where it will never let it go. Check this out. I could actually squeeze the cup and look at this. I turned the water and it's trapped and it will not come out. And if you want to do a really cool second part to this experiment, but I'm not going to tell you what happens. Put this back in your cup, okay? And ask mom or dad or whoever you live with for salt. Salt that you put on french fries or salad. And take a teaspoon of salt, sprinkle it, one teaspo

Step 5: Take a screenshot on a Mac On a Mac, hold down Shift, Command and the number 3 to take a picture of your entire screen. A file will automatically save to your desktop. Step 6: Take a shot of part of the screen Hold down Shift, Command, 4 to take a picture of an area of the screen. Hold down the mouse button, run the select tool over the area you'd like to shoot, and let go. A file will save to your desktop. House training your puppy really just boils down to a few basic principles. One, you need to have a proper set-up and use management tools. What you're going to want is a short-term confinement area, a crate, and you're going to use that for as long as you believe your puppy can hold it's bladder. If you're doing outdoor training you don't necessarily need to have a long-term confinement area, but if your puppy is really young and not going outside yet, or you're schedule doesn't allow for you to bring your puppy to potty breaks frequently enough, then you are going to have a long-term confinement area. A long-term confinement area is a place where your puppy can do no wrong. You're going to have, in that long-term confinement area, an indoor legal toilet for your puppy to eliminate on in the event that you can't bring them to the toilet yourself. Often we use wee-wee pads of newspaper, some sort of an absorbent surface. You want to start by covering the entire surface with the pads or newspaper. This way you are setting your puppy up for 100 percent success. They can't make a mistake. As time goes on, give it a week, don't rush it, you'll start removing a little bit of the pad or substrate slowly so that you can ensure that your puppy is actually targeting the pad. Eventually your goal might be to have more floor and only one pad. But take your time and if your puppy ever makes a mistake then you're just going to put a little bit more toilet surface down for your puppy. The next thing you absolutely have to remember is that if your puppy is not in their crate or their long-term confinement area and they're out and about with you, you are going to supervise them 100 percent of the time. And when I talk about supervision I don't mean just watching your puppy run around the living room floor and weeing in the corner. I mean really keeping your puppy close to you. The only time they're going to be running out and about and getting a little bit of exercise and fun is right after they've gone to the bathroom. That way you know your puppy is empty and you're setting yourself and your puppy up for success of not having accidents in your house. The way you can supervise them is keeping them on a long, light weight indoor leash. This way your puppy is always tethered to you and as time goes on, if you feel that your puppy might need to go to the bathroom, you're going to tighten up the supervision, maybe even put him in your lap or on a little pad at your feet, chewing a toy. And then when you believe it's time for them to go to the potty you're either going to bring them outdoors, if you're outdoor training, or to their legal indoor toilet. So remember to set you and your puppy up for successful house training, you want to use your management tools, which is your crate, possibly a long-term confinement area and make sure you have your puppy at the right place at the right time so that when they do go to the bathroom in the right spot, you're prepared to tell them how good they are and back that up with a really good treat, so that they know that's what you want.

Got a mystery to solve? Somebody's been making off with your stuff, and you don't have a clue who it is, do you? Here's your chance to catch them in the act. Step 1: Build the circuit Build the circuit. Center the microchip on the circuit board. Pop in the voltage regulator. Connect the battery clip leads to the regulator. Run 2 more leads out from the regulator. Pop in the resistor and the photo cell. Link the chip to the photo cell. Pop in the relay. Link the chip to it as well. Link the other side of the relay to "power." Step 2: Disassemble camera Disassemble the digital camera so you can access the board connected to the camera’s trigger button. Tip You may have to remove the camera’s board to get a good solder point on the terminal. Step 3: Solder wires to terminals Look for the two tiny terminals that lead to the trigger button. Solder wires to each of these terminals and feed them through the trigger button hole. Step 4: Reassemble the camera Reassemble the camera. If you can’t get it back together easily, use duct tape to keep it closed. Just don’t tape over the lens. Step 5: Position circuit inside soap caddy Position the circuit inside the soap caddy so the photocell is exposed behind one of the holes. Step 6: Connect battery to circuit Connect the battery to the circuit, and use tape to secure the whole assemblage inside the box. Step 7: Attach wires to voltage relay Slip the two wires coming from the camera through another hole, and attach them to either side of the voltage relay. Step 8: Cut & tape coat hangers Cut the coat hanger into several pieces. Tape one piece to the laser pointer and the others to the back of the mirrors. Step 9: Place camera Place the camera in an inconspicuous location with the lens pointing at the object you want to protect and secure it in place. Step 10: Position laser pointer Position the laser pointer in another inconspicuous place and secure it too. Step 11: Place mirrors Place the mirrors to create a perimeter around the object you’re protecting, adjusting them until the laser hits the photocell. Step 12: Test the system Now break the beam to test the system… And get ready to confront the perpetrator with your irrefutable evidence. Did You Know? I'm going to show you guys how to do a volley kick. A volley kick is a very advanced technique, it's a very advanced technique, so beginners shouldn't try this yet. If you have at least two years of training, maybe you can give this a try. I'm going to demonstrate, and I'm going to first explain to you as easy as possible. I'm going to stay in a fighting stance. First, a volley kick is like a back turn, but this time with an angle, so like this. One. I'm going to throw my back leg up in the air, two. One more time. One, two. It's almost like a roundhouse kick, but you have to kick and try to land with the same leg, something like that. One more time. One, two, three, and these are the drills that you guys can go in the beginning. I like to now to a step four. I like to do my volley kick with my left leg, so I'm going to bring my left leg behind. I'm going to step forward for the momentum, one, one more time. Don't turn your shoulders, make sure. One, turn, bring the leg up, and throw that kick like this. Now it's a little harder if you go slowly. It's actually a lot more easier if you go fast. I'm going to actually demonstrate it now with my partner over here. He's going to be holding the target. Again, beginners, you don't have to go this high, okay? You can hold it like here. This is the best distance for me. I like to stand up, again, left leg back fighting stance, because I'm going to be kicking with my left leg because I'm going to be stepping forward. Now I'm going to step forward and do the volley kick. I'm going to demonstrate, and have a good landing. One more time. I'm in my fighting stance, step forward, and that's how you do a volley kick.

How do you create the proper release? There are two factors, the proper fit and the proper grip. The proper fit will determine how you grip the ball and also, how you release the ball. Getting the proper release is gonna create not only speed and rotation, but control. By having the proper release, you're gonna create a much stronger game. A much more consistent release creates a much higher caliber in your game. For the proper release, your thumb will come out first, your fingers will follow and it will create not only the right speed, but the rotation and control down the lane to help you score. With the proper release, you also create and help the dynamic of your layout in the bowling ball and the bowling ball itself and how it's moved. By releasing the ball properly, you gain control. The control will determine on how much easier you'll be able to score and the lane condition. You don't want too much pressure inside the ball. You want enough pressure to hold the ball properly to release it when you want to and create good timing at the point of release. Having proper grip pressure in the ball will determine your release and create the dynamic down the lane to create the reaction and also pin action when the ball's going to hack it. By creating a proper release, you're allowing the dynamic of the bowling ball to come through. When having the proper release, you must clear the ball from having some sliding out when it's entering the lane and your fingers will follow. When you downswing, the ball's coming around the downswing towards your leg, passing your leg as your thumb is sliding out, the ball will transfer into your fingers and create rotation. Without the proper release, in order to get a better dynamic on the ball and the reaction you need down the lane. That's how you improve your release.

To do a squat jump, first you gotta make sure that you have good basic squat mechanics. So just real briefly going over how to do a squat properly. Take your feet about shoulder width apart, make sure your knees aren't going to cave in or bow out. But really maintaining that alignment. Good rule of thumb is to keep your kneecaps just kind of shooting right in between your big toe and your second toe. You wanna come back with your hips. And your chest should always be higher than your hips. So what I mean by that is as you go into the squat, my chest at the bottom is higher than my hips. As opposed to ending up in a position like this. This would be more action in the lower back. And the purpose of the squat is to really get action in the legs and maintain a nice good posture up top. So then, from there, you just jump it. So you're going into your squat, jumping up and then landing. When it comes to jumping, it's mostly about the landing mechanics. You want to decelerate. So that there's not a lot of shock in your joints, but you're really absorbing the shock through your muscles. So thinking about the landing as being slow and controlled, rolling through your foot, toe, ball, heel. Making sure you get your weight back onto your heel before you take off again. So a good test is make sure you can lift your toes a little bit inside of your shoe. That ensures your weight is far enough back. You don't have to keep your toes up the whole time, it's just a good test. Exhale as you jump up, inhale as you go down. If you use your arms to help propel yourself, it's going to be a little easier. If you want it to make it harder, you can do something like a prisoner squat jump, with the hands behind the head. And now you take away any assistance, any momentum from the upper body and you've got to power yourself up all just with your legs. You could also do a squat jump where you bring the legs together and then land back in the squat, getting a little bit more work with the adductor muscles, the inner thigh muscles, to draw the legs inwards. You could also do it really fast, where your goal would be to gain more speed. You could go for greater range of motion, by making it a top squat jump. So those are just a few examples of the many different types of squat jumps that you can do.

So much of my experience, ever since I first got period cramps, was one of the great pain. I used to pass out, have to take 1,000 milligrams of Motrin every three hours, really really painful. So when I experienced reflexology and then on a more regular basis with certain reflexes in mind, with this protocol in mind, it shifted a lot and my whole approach to my body and my PMS changed. So we are going to be looking at the reflex points certainly, you have the ovaries on this outer area of the foot; this heel the calcaneus, this outside the lateral aspect and you'll also have it in the inside which is where the uterus reflex is, so you're gonna want to do thumb walking on both of those areas, so I'm gonna thumb walk this area for you, gonna thumb walk here, be really detailed. This will be the time of the month when you wanna be very detailed in this area. In addiction, you can also pay attention to the whole of the endocrine system reflexes. Your pituitary gland reflex, the master gland right in the center of that toe. It might feel sometimes like a button or like a pea, so you wanna press on that always supporting with your other hand so you go a little deep in there and then out back again. Your pineal gland reflex is right beside it, here you have your thyroid and para-thyroid reflexes and those are right through here. So again if you're in doubt and you think you don't know where you're going, just get this whole area going over with your thumb walking and then your thymus, that'll be right through here; you could only just do one press with the thumb walking or you could do the whole area if you're not sure if you're getting it just right. And have a map beside you that you can reference and then you wanna come in through here, this is your adrenal gland reflex. You will, once you''ll do it a little bit you will almost feel it right through there. Again you can thumb walk a little more if you're concerned that you're not getting right on the point. Come right through here for your pancreas reflex. And then you come right back down to your reproductive points again, which is also part of your endocrine system. For good measure I will do finger walking across this top area which is the fallopian tube reflex and I'll give attention to the lower back because that often is an area that might be painful during that time of the month, I'm gonna detail all around in there, and then I'll end with some heel holding and maybe a little bit of ankle traction. And then I like to end with the solar plexus reflex, which is right there, you're just pressing in, and then you can lean your weight a little forward, just slightly; this is kind of telling the body to relax.

Speaker 1: This is the difference between the conga and the djembe. If you look closely, you see the conga is a little taller, djembe in this time is a little shorter. The tension on the skin is achieved by the pulling with these metal rods. The djembe is with a rope. Okay? The bass that comes out of this small bottom is played here. Your bass? My tone is played here. Speaker 2: My tone is right here. Speaker 1: My slap has an advance from the tone area to the slap area like this. More center. Speaker 2: So my slap doesn't go in the center. My slap stays into the drum. My slap is like this. Speaker 1:Wow. I hope everybody caught that. We're going to play a little bit for you to show you the color and sound of this wonderful instrument playing with another wonderful instrument. The conga and the djembe. Now you've heard the difference in sound, but there's really not that many differences. You can appreciate the differences in both instruments, the conga and the djembe.

So I'm going to demonstrate how to do a side plank. So there are a couple ways you can do a side plank. I'm going to start with the basic, I wouldn't say regression but, this is good for beginners. Number one your elbow has to be completely under your shoulder. You want to make sure your alignment is always intact. Your elbow should be right under your shoulder. Okay you're keeping your arms flat like this, your hand flat like this. Now, for a beginner you can keep your knees on the ground, you can stack your legs like so and you're going to lift from your hips. You can either keep your hand on your hip like this, or you can raise your arm up to the sky. Now, this can be challenging for a lot of people, this alone. You want to make sure you squeezing from your glutes. You want to make sure that hips are going up to the sky as much as you can, as if somebody had a string around your hips and they were pulling you up. Now, you're going to hold this for 30 seconds or one minute. If you find that to be too easy you can go into a normal side plank. Couple of ways you can do this. Again, your shoulder under your elbow or your elbow under your shoulder, feet stacked and you can lift from here, your hand can stay on your hip or you can put your arm up like that. Again, you want to make sure that your hips are going up to the sky you're very active in this. I don't want to see you down here like this. Your hips should be up the whole time your squeezing your glutes. If you want you can also do it as you would in yoga on your hand. This is just more shoulder and leaning on your forearm is more core. Now, an even more harder version, more difficult version would be to go back to your forearms come up, you can do variations with your arms to make this more challenging. So you could reach underneath you, come back up, reach underneath you, come back up let's stay for ten reps. You can come up and down with your hips or you could do something called a starfish side plank, and hold that guy. And, that's how you do a side plank.

Alright let's take a look at this wall. We could have just slapped paint on this wall, but to really do a good job let's take the time and learn how to fill the nail holes and smooth out the blemishes and make a really smooth nice finish. These here are your mud knives. Spatula, scraper tool, mud pan. Pretty basic tools. This is your basic joint compound, plaster repairers and something that I like to use for smaller holes, bring Pat. Let's took a look at this. Now these were bolt holes from a television mount, much bigger than nail holes. I'm going to scrape this open of it with my scraper and see what we've got. I'm going to scrape it's a bit to loosen the particles. These are definitely larger holes. Now I'm going to take a wet rag I'm going to what this down. I've got the wall board, the sheet rock underneath and the paper backing of the sheet rock or drywall is loose and it's kind of peeling off. I'm going to let that down and I might use the backside of my scraper here to push that in to make sure that my hole in indented rather than having particles sticking out. And these are the little tricks that you can do that will really make a nice paint job and are often overlooked by the average homeowner... Let's take some of this ready patch. Ready patch dries faster, it's harder, doesn't crack, but it is a little harder to sand so you wouldn't use this on big wide areas. Let's put one coat of ready patch here... Now it's not perfect, but that's going to dry as our first cold and we'll sand that down. Now this is what you call really getting to know your wall. These deep holes may take three hour, three or four hours to dry and we'll come back to sand over that and do a skim second coat on top. Okay these mounting holes for the television are just about dry. I'm going to hit it with a little bit of sandpaper and I'm going to go ahead and put this skim coat, second coat topping and make it nice and smooth and beautiful. Alright and we're going to wait for that to dry and do another light sanding and she's ready to paint. Okay these television mount holes, the first coat of plaster was dry, I sanded down slightly and put a second skim coat on top of the joint compound. I let that set, sanded it again nice and smooth and I went ahead and used a mini-roller and puts a water-based primer just over that whole area. So that's good, that is solid, that is smooth, it's invisible and is ready for paint.

Let's talk about hair with a round face. What should you do with a round face about your hair? You should either have your hair very long on the sides, so it actually takes it down. You can actually do a middle part. What happens with that is it splits your face in the middle and makes it less round. You can also do some framing layers. When I say by framing layers, your layers shouldn't be starting up here. They should start right through the cheek here so it actually breaks that in and breaks that round face effect. With a round face, you shouldn't have bangs because if you have bangs, it will make your face much heavier on the side. Your hair shouldn't be too short, meaning if you're here, it's not good for a round face because you would actually concentrate on being even more round. Remember either straight line, straight down or a little bit of long framing starting through the cheek.

Many people think that you can't train a cat. Well, they're wrong. If you know what motivates your cat, you can train it. Now, training with Fria today is going to be a little difficult because she's pretty snooty, but I'm just going to see if she has a reaction to her favorite treat bag. That can be a great place to start for coming when called. Many cats know the sound of their treat bag and get excited right off the bat when they hear it. So, let's just see if she wakes up. Oh, suddenly we're interested. Well, it's not an ideal time to practice coming when called. It is a good time to reinforce the association that hearing the treat bag means good things. Now, many cat owners already know about the treat bag effect, but what they don't know is that it's really easy to capitalize on it to teach your cat to come when called. The way to do that is to pair your cat's name with a treat. The great news is since your cat knows the sound of a treat bag or a treat canister, you can build on an already strong association. So, in this case, you might say your cat's name and then give them a treat. So, I'll go like this. Fria and then I crinkle the bag which means a treat is coming and then I give her one. Now first, when you're starting this you want to start right by your cat because they don't really know what you're trying to do. Start at a place where cat and you are most likely to be successful. So, rinse and repeat. Fria, crinkle, crinkle and then give a treat. Now, when you're ready to start working on coming when called you can begin working from a distance. I'm not going to do this with Fria today because she might walk right off the table if she happened to get up, but what you would do is the same type of behavior. Say the cat's name, crinkle the bag and as soon as they come over give a treat. Eventually, the name that you give your cat for this exercise will become as powerful as the treat bag and you'll see that when you give the sound of your cat's name that your cat comes running for that treat. Over time you can stop using food and use scratches or other positive attention that your cat enjoys as a reinforcer. Just remember that it's not normal for cats to come when called in the wild, so it's definitely a behavior that's worth paying for. That's how you teach your cat to come when called.

Don’t let a dermatological disaster get you down. Here are a half-dozen ways to zap those zits fast! Step 1: Don’t squeeze it! Resist the urge to squeeze a pimple. You might push bacteria further into your skin, causing an infection that could lead to scarring. Tip Keep tea tree oil or witch hazel in the house so that as soon as you feel a pimple starting to bloom, you can dab some on. Both have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that will help nip a zit in the bud. Step 2: Give it an aspirin Woke up with a full-blown blemish? Crush an aspirin, mix it with a few drops of water, soak the tip of a cotton swab in it, and hold the swab against the zit for about 15 seconds. It won’t make the pimple disappear, but it can reduce redness. Tip Eye drops--the kind for bloodshot eyes--work too. Step 3: Slap a paste on it Look in your cupboard: If you have lemon juice, instant oatmeal, honey, and an egg, you can make a paste out of a teaspoon of each and some of the egg white. Wash your face, smear the paste on the pimple, leave it on for 20 minutes, and rinse with warm water. This should further reduce the redness. Tip If you have hydrogen peroxide, dab some on the pimple first to disinfect it. Step 4: Get some manuka honey Now that you’ve stopped the pimple in its tracks, it’s time to blast it off the face of … your face. Pick up some manuka honey at a health-food store, smear it on a bandage, and stick it on your pimple before bed. The zit will be far less noticeable by morning. Step 5: Try toothpaste If you can't track down manuka honey, take some toothpaste--the paste kind, not the gel kind--and dab a pea-size amount on your pimple. When you wake up, the zit should be a shriveled shell of its former self. Take care not to spread it on the skin surrounding the pimple, or that will dry out, too. Tip Forget that movie that touted glass cleaner as a zit remedy. It doesn’t work. Step 6: See the doctor If a gi-normous zit is threatening to ruin a big day and no home remedies have helped, visit a dermatologist, who can make it disappear--sometimes within hours--with a single injection of cortisone. Did You Know? Though greasy foods are often blamed, acne is actually due in large part to genetics.

Hi, this is David Sullivan for Chess NYC and I'd like to talk about the center and gambits. In chess, we generally try to bring our two pawns to the center of the board to free our pieces and also, if black pieces come out, we can use that center to move forward and attack black. But black will try to stop us from making our center. If we play, let's say, E4, black might play E5. And then if we play our other center point out right away, pawn to D4, black can take the pawn, white can take back with the queen, but then black will develop a piece, attacking the queen, making it waste time by moving again. And then black will develop another piece. And then, all of a sudden, black has more big guys out than white. Black has two pieces developed, white only has one piece developed. Pawns are not considered pieces, they're just pawns. So, white wants to bring the two center pawns out, but black is fighting against it with his first move. He's saying, "Well, you bring this pawn out, I will take you right away." White can use, in this position, what's known as a gambit. Gambit comes from the Italian word, gambito, which means to trip up. So, white is trying to trip up black. White plays his pawn to F4. He offers black a pawn. Black can take the white pawn and white won't be able to capture back. What white is trying to do is deflect the pawn so that later, he'll be able to more easily bring his other center point up and black won't be able to take it. Another example of a gambit, and this is an opening that shows up in my own games occasionally, is when I would play white, I would often play D4. Black plays knight F6, I go C4 and black plays C5. I advance my pawn to D5 and then black plays his pawn to B5. This is known as the benko gambit. Black intends to offer me a pawn and then offer me another pawn, so that later in the game, he'll have two open lines for his rooks that he can use to put pressure on me down here. For your entertainment, I will show you what I use to play against this. When they play B5 and then A6, I would actually play my knight to C3, developing a piece. Black would take a pawn. This pawn is unprotected, but I don't grab it. I play pawn to E4. I free my bishop, black attacks my knight, I bring my knight to B5. And now, it looks like my pawn on E4 is hanging, that is, it's unprotected. But if black takes my pawn on E4, I can then attack his knight and if his knight runs away, I have knight to D6, checkmate. Smothered mate. So over here, we have black offering a gambit, white declining the gambit, then white offers black a pawn and if he takes the pawn, he will get checkmated. These two examples of gambits to give you a little idea of what we're talking about here, as with any subject in chess, we could talk about this for months, but just remember, gambits are basically, it's a small sacrifice in order to make some sort of game.
