Fixing a muddy chicken run
Good morning from Henderson Acres! Today we are fixing a muddy chicken run utilizing wood shavings and scraps from cutting up firewood. We try to do what we can to compost here on the homestead. Here in Wisconsin, we have been having wintery mixes followed by rain causing a lot of water and mud in our run. As you can see in the video, our run is very muddy shavings and/or wood chips are a great way to help with that. As mentioned in the video, check out your local resources for your own chicken run. Please leave a comment or suggestion how you get through the muddy aspects of spring with chickens. Have a great day and thanks for watching!

Chicken Run Tour
Hello again from Henderson Acres! Today I will be showing you a tour of my chicken run. As you can see in the video a few things are a work in progress primarily pulling the netting to completely cover the run. For reference this netting has been in place since November of 2022. We have not lost any birds to predators thus far. The netting has also held up incredibly well throughout our Wisconsin winter. This run is for 16 chickens granted it is way larger than the amount recommended for 16 birds. In the spring once the ground is thawed we will do a follow up video with the netting as well as some of our fruit bushes that are planted inside the run. Please leave a comment below for any questions regarding chicken runs or regarding our run at Henderson Acres. Thank you for watching our video! Hit that like and subscribe button!
Heavy duty netting that has done great all winter in WI

Cheap but effective wire I have used to help hold up the chicken wire around the run as well as for my garden. I will always have a spool of this around.

Firewood storage setup
Hi from Henderson Acres today we are turning an unorganized pile of wood into a nice firewood stack. This is my setup for stacking and storing wood close to the burner in order to make it easier to load it up. I use this setup for my long term storage as well but I just cover the top with plastic and drape it down 6 inches to a foot for water shed. You want to make sure you do not cover it up or it could cause it to hold moisture and rot. If you use this setup make sure you secure the sides and stack your wood evenly to help keep the pile as sturdy and safe as possible. Also use caution when you tip the dump trailer to make sure the pile does not slide down onto you. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below.

Chicken coop and run waterer and feeder setup
Hello again from Henderson Acres! Today we are discussing the food and water set up for our egg laying chickens. You'll notice in the video I have noted a few differences between summer and winter. Another thing to clarify is the oyster shells. The rationale behind oyster shells is for calcium, which provides the birds with a thicker egg shell. I do not feed my chickens "layer feed" because I have a rooster. The excess calcium in the layer feed can cause health issues to the rooster. Roosters will not typically eat the oyster shells, but the hens will eat these as needed. My chickens do have a large run and are basically free range but I still supplement with grit. I hope you find this video informative. Please leave a comment and hit that like button

Splitting Setup for Firewood
Hi from Henderson Acres! Today we are going to be showing my log splitting set up. You'll see the amount of wood that we split today. Typically you would cut, split, and stack and allow one year to dry but because this is dead ash it is mostly dry and will likely be used this season. Leave a comment if you have any questions!

Tools and tips I use for cutting dead ash trees for firewood.
In this video, I show the tools, tips, and safety gear I use. This is the dead ash pile from the previous video. enjoy. Always make sure you are comfortable with your chainsaw and wear all of the proper safety gear. In the video, I forgot to mention I always wear safety glasses.
Turning standing dead ash trees into firewood
Today I am showing you how I gather my firewood for my Crown Royal Wood burner and camp fires. This is one of the easy spots to get wood because it is so close to my driveway. I have about 10 acres of woods, which are mostly ash trees that were taken out by the emerald ash borer. In this video, I don't show any cutting but if you do cut the trees yourself please be safe and make sure you follow the directions for your chainsaw. Make sure you have proper skills and safety gear. Any questions or comments let me know.

Weekend burn in 7400e with full load of dry ash
Hey everybody in this video we are seeing how long I can get a burn with a Crown Royal Pristine 7400e. It burned for 46 hours total with all dry ash wood being used. For reference, all the wood that was used was well below 20% moisture. Not too bad with the weather we had. Friday high 32 low 23, Saturday high of 33 low 25, Sunday high of 25. I didn't jam it completely full but it is still a big load of wood. Thanks for watching leave a comment below if you have any questions.
Cold Start kinda
Today's video is a semi cold start. The video was made after I was away for the weekend. The water got down to 70ish degrees. The fire was out for hours and I was assuming there would be no coals. However, when I stirred the ashes I saw some orange. This video went quickly from a complete emptying of the ashes and unburnt coals with a cold start to building a coal bed video. You might be wondering why I don't throw a bunch of wood in there right off the bat, sometimes you can get too much of a head fire and over shoot your set temperature.
Hope you enjoy the video!
Crown Royal 7400E will one load last the weekend PART 2
The temperature was in the 40's during the day and 30's at night as expected. I have a monitoring system which I have had for a little over a month and really like so far. It is called MOCREO Sensor. They are not a sponsor just a product I like. It showed that the wood boiler fired 16 times and the fire died on the 17th cycle. My boiler is set to turn on at 170 and off at 180. I hope you enjoy the video and if you have any questions let me know.
