An LGBTQ2 group in Regina calls that unconstitutional and is taking legal action against the province.
As Touria Izri reports, advocates say rules like this will put students in danger.

NEOWISE: Revealing Changes in the Universe
#Nasa #universe
New time-lapse movies from NASA’s NEOWISE mission give astronomers the opportunity to see objects, like stars and black holes, as they move and change over time. The videos include previously hidden brown dwarfs, a feeding black hole, a dying star, a star-forming region, and a brightening star. They combine more than 10 years of NEOWISE observations and 18 all-sky images, enabling a long-term analysis and a deeper understanding of the universe.
0:44 – NEOWISE all-sky scan animation
1:03 – Feeding black hole
1:14 – Pulsing star reaches the end of its life
1:21 – Protostars in star-forming region
1:34 – Brown dwarf moves across the sky
2:00 – Unexplained stellar brightening
The NEOWISE mission uses a space telescope to hunt for asteroids and comets, including those that could pose a threat to Earth. Launched in December 2009 as the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, the space telescope was originally designed to survey the sky in infrared, detecting asteroids, stars and some of the faintest galaxies in space. WISE did so successfully until completing its primary mission in February 2011.
Observations resumed in December 2013, when the telescope was taken out of hibernation and re-purposed for the NEOWISE project as an instrument to study near-Earth objects, or NEOs, as well as more distant asteroids and comets.

“Shut up!”: Ukraine's foreign minister snaps at critics of slow counter-offensive against Russia
#News #Ukraine #Russia
During an informal European Union (EU) Thursday meeting in Toledo, Spain, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba demanded that critics of Kyiv's tactics in its counter-offensive against Russia's invasion “shut up,” saying that they were spitting in the faces of Ukrainian soldiers.
"Criticizing the slow pace of (the) counter-offensive equals spitting into the face of (the) Ukrainian soldier who sacrifices his life every day, moving forward and liberating one kilometre of Ukrainian soil after another," Kuleba said.
"I would recommend all critics to shut up, come to Ukraine and try to liberate one square centimetre by themselves," Kuleba said, standing alongside Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares.
Addressing ministers separately, Kuleba pointed out that his country doesn’t only need more weapons in its ongoing war, but also armoured ambulances to evacuate wounded soldiers.

Pakistani women burn bills to protest against soaring electricity prices
#News #Pakistan #Protests
Hundreds of women took to the streets in Pakistan’s biggest city, Karachi, on Thursday to protest against soaring electricity prices.
About 1000 women, holding banners and placards with some even burning electricity bills, gathered on one of the main streets of the city in a protest organized by major Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami.
There have been sporadic protests across the country after consumers received July power bills following a recent increase in electricity prices and taxes, which was a key demand of the International Monetary Fund for revival of a long-stalled financial assistance package.

Canada's plan for Emergencies Act inquiry recommendations to come in 2024
#News #Canada #TruckerConvoy
Canada's Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc outlined some of the progress done in response to recommendations following the Emergencies Act inquiry in a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Thursday.
But the letter makes clear that much of the government's response remains a work in progress.
The report by Commissioner Paul Rouleau was a result of weeks of testimony and analysis of documents, ending with him concluding that the Liberal government had met the threshold to invoke the Emergencies Act in the winter of 2022 to respond to the “Freedom Convoy” demonstrations.
Rouleau made 56 recommendations in his Feb. 17, 2023, report summarizing the inquiry, including many targeting a lack of action and coordination among policing, intelligence and security agencies.
