1st Rule of Firearm Safety 1 of 5
The first rule of firearm safety is: Treating every firearm as if it is loaded 100% of the time. The first rule encompasses the first three. If you properly implement the first rule of firearm safety all other rules should fall into place chronologically. If you treat every firearm as if it is loaded 100% of the time you are going to always keep it pointed in a safe direction (2nd rule) you are going to keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot (3rd rule) knowing your target and what's beyond it (4th rule applies while shooting and moments leading up to that point) and of course long term storage of our firearms unloaded (5th rule)

5 Things you MUST know before buying your first firearm
1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
2. Always point the firearm in a safe direction.
3. Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you have made the conscious decision to fire.
4. Always know your target and what's beyond it.
5. Always store your firearms unloaded.
Every firearm owner and especially those who are interested in becoming an owner of a firearm should be able to recite these rules off the top of your head. Firearms are unique tools that serve many purposes: defense, recreation, hunting, ect...They can also be dangerous when not respected in their entirety. Memorizing and implementing these 5 simple rules not only gives you the ability to educate others but could also potentially save your life.
