Tom Brady retiring after 22 seasons, seven Super Bowl wins with New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sources say Tom Brady is retiring from football after 22 seasons in which he won a historic seven Super Bowl titles, sources told ESPN on Saturday. When Brady, widely considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history, left the field after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, he knew it was likely his final act as a football player, sources said. In the days since, he has spent time digesting that mindset and is preparing his retirement announcement along with the next chapter of his life and career, sources said. Sources said that Brady's decision to retire is based on several factors, including family and health. Although it's less significant, Brady also recognizes that the Buccaneers are likely to undergo significant roster turnover, sources said. Brady, 44, has been adamant for weeks that he never wanted a "farewell season," and many who know him believed he desired a decision made without much drama leading up to it. He will shift his focus to new endeavors and believes this is the right moment to end his playing career, sources said. It is unknown when Brady will formalize his plans to retire, but that move will be made with consideration to not upstage the NFL's postseason games, including the Super Bowl. Brady's company, TB12 Sports, sent a tweet that appeared to confirm his decision but later deleted the post. Don Yee, Brady's agent, deferred any comment on the quarterback's future to Brady himself. "I understand the advance speculation about Tom's future," Yee said in a statement. "Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what's being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy. He knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon." Buccaneers executives and coaches have been bracing for Brady's retirement in recent weeks, recognizing that it was more likely than not that he would hang it up after the season, team sources told ESPN. One source said as recently as this week that "all signs point" to Brady's retiring. The Buccaneers hoped to make an emphatic pitch to persuade Brady to play one more year, but Tampa Bay recognizes that that effort is not expected to have an impact and the team is resigned to the challenges that now lie ahead. Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians told ESPN's Jenna Laine that Brady had not notified him or the team of his plans to retire. Tom Brady Sr. also told ESPN in a text that "Tommy has made no such determination" regarding his playing future. Even so, Buccaneers wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans showed love for Brady on social media, but later deleted their tweets. When Brady makes his decision to retire official, the former New England Patriots quarterback will end a storied career that spanned three different decades on the path from Foxborough to Tampa to Canton. He won seven Lombardi trophies, the most championships won by a single player in NFL history, along with five Super Bowl MVPs. He piled up career records such as most touchdown passes (624) and most passing yards (84,250) in his 22 seasons. His performance during the final year of his career -- finishing the regular season as the NFL leader in touchdowns and passing yards -- suggested that Brady could have continued playing at an elite championship level. But he recognized the sacrifice it would take from him and his family and felt it was time to tackle other challenges, sources said. Earlier in the week, appearing on his "Let's Go" podcast with host Jim Gray, Brady used the word "satisfied" to describe how he felt about his NFL career, which caught the attention of many who know a man who rarely was satisfied with his achievements. Brady cited his family's desires as a heavy factor in his upcoming decision. "I said this a few years ago, it's what relationships are all about," Brady said on the podcast. "It's not always what I want. It's what we want as a family. And I'm going to spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what's next." Brady and his family have been building a South Florida home just north of Miami. "I'll know when I know," Brady said during the podcast. "I think for all of us, you know, we can all decompress a bit. It's been six straight months of football. Every day consumed by day in and day out football. And I think now it's just some time to spend some time with my family and spend some time with my kids." Brady will become the second future Hall of Fame quarterback to call it a career this postseason. On Thursday, Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon in a €50.1 million deal, both clubs announced on Sunday, their third signing since being taken over by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in October. The move for Guimaraes follows the arrivals on defender Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and striker Chris Wood from Burnley. The club said in a statement: "Newcastle United are delighted to confirm the signing of Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes on a four-and-a-half-year deal. "The 24-year-old midfielder joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee from Lyon, where he has been one of the outstanding performers in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons, and will wear shirt No. 39 -- the number of the taxi once driven by his father." Lyon said in a statement later on Sunday that the deal was was worth €50.1m, including €8m in performance-based clauses, with a 20% sell-on fee. Sources have told ESPN that Newcastle offered Guimaraes a £120,000-a-week contract -- four times his wage at Lyon. "Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I'm delighted to secure him," manager Eddie Howe said. "He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead. "He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him. We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty." Guimaraes began his career at Atletico Paranaense before joining Lyon in January 2020 for €21.5m. The midfielder also has three international caps for Brazil and has been away with Tite's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

TikTok: everything you need to know about the video production app Despite only launching in 2018, TikTok has enjoyed a dramatic rise to become one of the most popular social media apps on the planet. Young people, in particular, love its short-form video focus, and it is now one of Generation Z’s favourite tools of expression. There’s a good chance your child is either using it already or asking to be allowed on it – but what exactly is it, and are there any risks you should be aware of? Here’s everything parents and carers need to know about TikTok. What sort of content is on TikTok? You can find videos relating to almost all interests on TikTok, from DIY tricks and make-up tutorials to gaming and sports. People are allowed to let their imagination run wild on TikTok, as there isn’t really a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ type of content. Your child might use TikTok to pick up new skills, learn how to play an instrument or even connect with people they share an interest with. The videos are often playful and take maximum advantage of the editing tools to make the 15 seconds of video as memorable as possible. Although most of the content you will find is upbeat, funny and joyful, people also use the platform to respond to current events such as the #BlackLivesMatter campaign and the COVID-19 pandemic. This has led to controversy in the past, with TikTok having been accused of censoring politically-charged content which was especially critical of the Chinese government. But TikTok has a set of community guidelines all content must adhere to and does not permit, for example, violent, racist, extremist or sexually explicit content on the platform. How does it work? Users don’t need an account to watch videos on TikTok but if they want to like, comment, customise their feed or create their own video content, they’ll be prompted to sign up for a free account. Like most social media platforms, TikTok requires its users to be at least 13 years old, although there’s no robust age-verification in place. When logging in for the first time, the user will be asked to log in using either their email, their Google account, or by linking TikTok to one of their other social media accounts, for instance Facebook or Twitter. After entering their date of birth and selecting which topics they’re interested in – such as sports, pop culture, music or gaming – the user will be dropped straight into the feed. In contrast to most of its competitors, TikTok doesn’t require the user to add any information to their profile: they’re issued with a user number, but whether they add a name, profile picture or any other personal information is their choice. Users are given complete creative control of their content. Putting together a video is very easy and there’s a range of tools available to spruce up the content, such as filters, effects, text and stickers. Depending on their age and how they’ve adjusted their settings, users can share their content with their follower base and/or the larger TikTok community – and even reshare their content on other platforms such as Instagram or YouTube. Many high-profile TikTokers – such as the dancer Addison Rae and magician Magic Singh – have achieved stardom by simultaneously building their audiences across platforms. Are there any risks? Data collection: TikTok has previously come under fire for illegally collecting the data of children under 13, which resulted in a record-breaking fine from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of £4.2m and harsh criticism from the UK’s Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Fortunately, TikTok doesn’t require users to give much personal information to join the app anymore, but it’s a good idea to minimise the amount of data your child stores on the app and turn off personalised ads in the settings. Contact with strangers: Although connecting with new people on social media is not harmful in and of itself, TikTok has previously been in the news for failing to remove sexual messages sent to teenagers. The platform’s guidelines include a section devoted to ‘Minor safety’, which states “We are deeply committed to child safety and have zero tolerance for predatory or grooming behavior toward minors.” To further address concerns, TikTok introduced a feature that prevents under-16s from both sending and receiving private messages – but nothing stops young users from faking their age. Be sure to adjust the app’s settings (more advice below) and let your child know that they can come to you if they’ve had a bad experience which has involved being contacted by a stranger. Risky challenges: The social media platform is famous for spawning viral challenges which are a big draw for many users. But TikTok has received a lot of flak for allowing potentially dangerous challenges – such as the Skullbreaker Challenge and the Outlet Challenge – to reach popularity on its platform.
