Finally got him settled down for the most part....part 2
We worked long enough that he was ready to work the way I was asking him to not the way he was telling me to.

Are we riding far enough to fix behavioral problems? Part 1
Out on Forest. Just wondering if we are riding long enough to to fix behavioral issues like barn sour and pace problems. I am going to guess a lot of us don't. I think that compounds the problem.

Get out Bareback!
Out on Lulu, her first video. I've had her for several years but never recorded videos with her. She's been a great horse. I regularly ride her bareback, shes a bit more happy that way and I find her to be a comfortable ride that way. Shes a very active ride but in a different way Forest is. Her walk and trot is amazing.

Moonlight telemetry
I thought it would be interesting to get a little telemetry data on part of my night time ride. I kept him to a trot most of the time.

By the light of the moon
A really great moon light ride. I really think your missing out if you've never tried to do this. It's so much easier than you think it is. The video doesn't give you the best perspective of the ride. It wasn't pitch black it just appears that way on camera. Forest seems to see really well in the dark too.

It doesn't have to be perfect to be perfect
Your rides don't have to be exactly what you wanted them to be. Just because its not how you envisioned your ride going doesn't mean that it isn't the perfect opportunity to grow as a rider and have your horse gain experience. It might not be the experience that you wanted to have but that doesn't make it any less valuable. Be flexible enough to use rides
that are imperfect in your mind to be useful to you and your horse. This wasn't the ride or video I had planned but to was a really great learning experience for us both. I am slowly gaining the fitness it takes to go faster on a fast horse like Forest. If takes a lot more balance and strength to go fast on a fast horse than with a slower one. Things happen much faster.

I have to apologize
A short apology video. I haven't had a lot of time to make content and the time I've had I have wanted to spend with my family. I'm not really the content creator I've wanted to be so I am making an effort to change that.
Gear if the day:

Why I don't like wholegrain horse feed *graphic ish content*
Heres a short video explaining why I don't like whole grains in my horses feed. I'm definitely more of a fan of the fully pelitized feeds with things like added vitamins minerals and digestive aids. I also show you this video exactly where your money goes with wholegrain feed.

Oilskin waxing
Heres a short video on how to rewaterproof your oilskins. This is a wax cake type product with other additives. It's not the easiest thing to apply and I can't yet speak to the waterproofing results yet. However it came very highly recommended and once its worked into the cloth I really like the texture and look. I've seen several cream type products that might be easier to apply. Maybe I'll try that eventually.

Iv bag hoof soak life hack!
This is a trick that was taught to me by my veterinarian it's a one gallon IV bag which they use to give horses emergency fluids and meds. In my case you cut a slit in the top of the bag put the solution you're soaking the hoof into the bag and add water then tape around the top of the hoof with a strong tape like gorilla tape and it stays on pretty much no matter how aggressive they get with their footstomping.
This is such a cool idea. Much thanks to my Vet

Pasture Invasion!
In this video I talk more about what I'm trying to remove and why. Having a small pasture area makes me more aggressive in maintaining what I have. In some ways its nicer because I can closely monitor and maintain each plot. In other ways it is difficult because I have to be on top of the forage. I'd estimate that 1/4 of what I have is inedible or toxic to horses.

Pasture maintenance: Herbicide
We'd all really just like to ride our horses all the time and make cool videos. However there's a ton of work that goes on to keeping them on your own property. Things like fencing, mowing and good inedible plant maintenance go into that.
I found that inedible plants were taking over my pastures. Not only were there big patches the horses couldn't eat it also mixes into the grasses but also the horses eat around it leaving a lot of edible grass they won't touch.
I also should have mentioned in the video that this is a broad leaf herbicide and won't hurt the pasture grass.
What I used in the video

Makita Powerhead XUX01 assembly and the EM405MP weed whacker
I hope this video helps people out. The included instructions aren't very well written and the tools they give you don't really help as much as they should.
This is the Makita Powerhead XUX01 and the EM405MP weed whacker attachment. I picked it because I am already vested in Makita power tools and I have several batteries. With the two 3.0AH batteries I managed about 15 min of run time on the top speed setting and only marginally better on the medium setting. Not really spectacular but in my opinion these are kind of small batteries for this draining of a task. The lowest speed setting works ok for edging and light work but wasn't very good at much else. It took extra passes to do the same work the high and medium settings do.
The power of this tool is pretty amazing it blasted through tall thick grass and thick tough stalked weeds with ease.
I have two 5AH batteries arriving tomorrow that should help with the run time.

2nd lap Canter for the Cause 2018 Pemlico Track
This is the raw video footage from my SECOND lap in the 2018 Canter for the Cause ride. It was done on Pimlico track. Forest and I hadn't been riding together very long and he was only a little over a year off from racing.
I wasn't terribly confident in our relationship at the time. I was also really annoyed that there was constantly slow people hugging the rail and were in the way of us going fast.
I was in my Australian saddle back when it fit him really well. Prior to his growth spurt and me having it modified by the master Colin Dangaard to fit Forest again.
We get right into the rode, at the 33 sec mark Diniah makes her move on us and right away he goes to race mode and stops listening and you can hear our conversation and he gives me control back
So many riders on the rail. I really should have let him go there in the corner and home stretch. I didn't have the confidence to do that. I needed another lap.

You can see that he wasn't really interested in going into the starting gate which is interesting. I really didn't think that would be an issue.

I modified a hackamore for the ride and pretty much threw it away right after the ride. It gave me real control over him at all and never fit him right. You can see my fleece nose wrap that I made to keep it from rubbing on him.
The video really gets rolling at the 11min mark. I really wanted to spend the first lap warming up to do a fast second lap. I really wish we could have warmed up off of the track somewhere. at he 12:20 mark we get rolling and he and Dinah get into racing mode. lol at the 12:40 mark he starts to not listen and goes for the win! at the 16min mark there's a rider that got bucked off and their group was all over the track.

Ford F350 460 Banks Engineering power pack 3of3
A second driving clip of the brand new exhaust from Banks power. This is the full power pack, probably a bit overkill for this truck but it was cheaper to get the pack than piecemeal it.
https://www.bankspower.com/i-764-powerpack-bundle-for-1989-1993-ford-f250-f350-7-5l-460-extended-or-crew-cab-automatic-transmission.html#!year%3D1989%7C%7Cmake%3DFORD%7C%7Cmodel%3DF-350%7C%7Csubmodel%3D7.5L%20GAS
There's a very noticeable difference in power probably due to both the new exhaust and airbox top as well as the new O2 sensor that's finally able to get a reliable reading.
A big thank you to AP exhaust products

Wild ride in the snow
This is the first ride together in the snow he was all amped up. Things always seem to be more exciting on race horses, they seem to get more excited about things than most other horse breeds.
It was kinda funny to have him spook at that killer chicken there in the pen next to the red barn.
This was my first time using the chest mount on the gopro. I think it was mounted a bit low I'll try to put it higher up on the next ride.

Almost synchronized rolling
The first real snowfall of the season. Lulu and Forest over course need to get out and roll in it. Hopefully we will get more than a few inches and I can go riding through it.

I went and did it, Horseback through the drive through
I have been wanting to do a video like this for a long time! It was a beautiful day and decided to go for it. A big thank you to the nice ladies that bought my nuggets and a big thank you to the Chic-fil-A staff. He was only a little fussy once we got to the drive through but not bad more excited than anything else. I can't blame him I was too and whose not excited about Chic fila? I was about a 4 mile ride to get there but well worth it. I really think it is important to expand Forests world to new and different things. It defiantly builds trust and builds his courage to do new things. Judging by the FB posts I have seen this was a pretty welcome activity. Please like, Rumble, and share this video for me.

Its alive!
The 1966 Ford Mustang is finally running after at least 6 years of not running probably much longer than that. New ignition system a bunch of wiring to replace dry rotted and disintegrated wires, Rebuilt carburetor, New fuel pump, new fuel tank, new fuel lines, new fuel sending unit. We found that the dash needs rewiring and much of the car it also needs brakes. BUT IT RUNS!

The best ways to make coffee: Cowboy and French Press
Here are my 2 favorite ways of making coffee cowboy coffee and regular French press coffee. Both of styles this time are finished in a French press. The difference is how they are brewed.
Boca java
https://www.bocajava.com/
If you join their coffee club they will send you emails when they have $5 bags of coffee well worth joining.

The herbal coffee. I buy mine at organic markets like MOM's or Whole Foods but Amazon has a selection too.

Much more exciting than I'd planned
A little Telemetry on a short canter. The road is a bit short for real speed and Forest is currently without shoes so he's a little more tender footed about stones and things. He was really pulling hard at the end.
