Episode 14 What you need to know about reflux and GORD
Did you know that reflux is often caused by low stomach acid?
If you have been diagnosed with reflux or GORD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease), you would likely be familiar with medications that reduce the acid in your stomach, such as PPI's (proton pump inhibitors). Are they the answer? Yes and No, you need to assess the risk vs reward ratio for your specific needs.
In this episode I discuss some of the pros and cons of these medications, some common drivers of reflux, useful strategies for reducing reflux, and why it is important to explore diet and lifestyle solutions as part of you treatment.
I have written more about this topic on my blog here: https://informedhealth.com.au/indigestion-reflux

Episode 13 Your diet is not only what you eat and drink
Although I will always champion the healing power of food. Food is not the only way you nourish yourself.
Food is not only what you eat and drink; it's also what you watch, what you listen to and read, who you spend your time with and your narrative (the stories you tell yourself).
It's everything that you feed yourself whether it be emotionally, physically or spiritually.
When you are on a wellness journey, it is important to look at all of the things that contribute to or undermine your health.
What do you consume? Is it nourishing you?

Episode 6 Be careful of your language around food
In this episode Fiona discusses the pitfalls of some of the common language we use around food. Language is very powerful and can leave you feeling empowered or dis-empowered.
The way we use language can close the door forever or leave the door open to future possibilities. The child like language we often use around food such as "I've been good" or "I've been bad" can also bring out the defiant child like part of you; and this is the part of you that is most likely to sabotage your healthy eating and lifestyle choices!

Episode 5 Diet culture, what is the perfect diet and can you have health at every size?
In this episode Fiona explores the way we approach diets. Many people adhere to diets as if they are a religion, rather than looking at their results and doing what works. Nutrition is a science, you don't believe in a diet, you test and measure and adjust based on actual results.
Fiona then discusses the health at every size movement and if it is healthy. Finally, the genetically robust, do you have the constitution of Brian Jones or Keith Richards? Your constitution will have a big effect on what you do or don't "get away with"....

Episode 4 The truth about self-care and Hi Ren
In this episode Fiona explores the question - what is self-care and why does it matter? We have all sorts of ideas about what it means based on the # used by many influencers.
At the end of this episode Fiona also talks about Hi Ren which is a brilliant song/video/work of art by Ren Gill that anyone who has had physical or mental health challenges would likely relate to. There are many reactions videos already on YouTube, this is Fiona discussing his final words at the end of the video and how they really resonate with the healing journey that Ren clearly knows intimately.
On the day these notes were written, Hi Ren had over 10 million views on YouTube, so well deserved, I am so happy for Ren finally getting some of the recognition he deserves!
Correction: In the video I say Ren is from England and in his late 20s, he is actually from Wales and in his early 30s.
