Music journalism's ideological chokehold MUST be broken
After ten-plus years of silence, it's time to speak out. Music critics -- my peers -- have played a role in fostering the hyper-polarized state we now find ourselves in. Those same critics, I argue, can also help lead us to a place of greater understanding and healing. Instead of clamoring to keep old-guard outlets like Pitchfork on life support, we should look to create a less restrictive ecosystem for discussing the arts. We'd all be much better off. In fact, the time has come to demand heterodox, truly diverse arts and culture commentary NOW.
