Time4Learning Review / Time 4 Learning Kindergarten / Time For Learning Honest Review Welcome to Everyday Blessings. We have been using time for learning for almost 2 years now. ‘I've had people asking how we are liking it and if we are still using it. We are still enjoying it, and we are still using it. I still highly recommend Time4Learning to anyone looking for an easy going virtual option to homeschooling. Today’s video is about Kindergarten through Time4Learning. Everything I speak about in today’s video is either coming straight from the Time4Learning website and from my own experience using the program with my children. Time4Learning’s kindergarten math curriculum includes over 200 kindergarten learning activities in many different themes. Guided and motivated by animated characters, students will learn the following: Counting and recognizing numbers and patterns Addition and subtraction and Identifying differences between 2D and 3D shapes Time For Learning’s Kindergarten Language Arts covers 350 activities spread across 24 chapters, Time4Learning’s kindergarten language arts homeschool curriculum will help your child: Recognize letters and their sounds Read sight words Develop a basic vocabulary and Develop spelling skills Time4Learning’s kindergarten science homeschool curriculum teaches different branches of science through interactive activities, fun songs, and hands-on projects. Using fun, interactive animations, students learn scientific concepts such as: Qualitative and quantitative observations Differences between living and nonliving things Different types of animals and their characteristics and Earth’s materials and how living things use them Kindergarten is not always required in every state. I find that my children have been ready and eager to start learning around the age of 3 or 4. The kindergarten program really helps with the basic skills they will need in the higher grades. The thing I love about this program is that we can go over struggle spots as many times as we would like. I have gone back though the phonics with one of my children a couple of times, and it was really beneficial to her. We didn’t have to start all the way at the beginning and do everything all over again. We could just focus on the struggle spots and master them before moving onto another grade level. No curriculum, and no program is going to be 100% perfect. The one thing I would say is a downfall in time for learning when it comes to our homeschooling is that it is not a christian based curriculum. Sheltered is not the word I would use to describe homeschooled children. Homeschooled children are anything but sheltered. Instead their innocence is protected. I am sick of seeing kids grow up too quickly. My son started out in public school and let me tell you it was terrible!! The things he saw and heard in public school were disgusting. Homeschooled children are out and about in the real world probably more than public school children. We are able to talk to our children in real time about the things they experience and see. I would argue that public school children are sheltered from the real world. How many times has a high school teacher said "That will never fly in the real world..." well duh! because indoctrination institutions are not the real world!! Are Homeschooled Kids Weird?/Homeschool Myths/ Homeschool Myths Busted! Welcome to Everyday Blessings. God didn't make me Pinterest perfect. I don't even pretend to be. Today we are talking about the myth that homeschoolers are weird. To say that homeschoolers are weird implies that public school children are normal I believe this myth comes from children who are homeschooled being seen out and about and not necessarily acting like a stereotypical school age child. This difference in anti stereotypical behavior is weird. But is it really? Is it weird to not act in the same way as a group of children your own age merely because you are all the same age so must then act the same? homeschooling its self is considered weird because we go don’t fall in line with the masses. This would naturally conclude in our children being then weird because they do not fall into the masses either. Can you think of any extraordinarily weird individuals throughout history that thought outside the box and ended up inventing something incredibly amazing? We embrace weird in our homes We allow our children the time to explore the things they are interested in. We encourage them to follow their passions. We love when they ask difficult questions. Where someone else sees weird we see inquisitive. Where someone else sees weird we see passionate, where someone else sees weird we see invention. If weird is the word that you would like to stick with I cant stop you. I can only suggest you look at children as individuals and you will see that the weird you speak of is beautiful. Homeschooled Kids WANT to be in public school / Homeschool Myths/ Homeschool Myths Busted! Welcome to Everyday Blessings. If you're new here my name is Nina I am a homeschooling mom with five kids at home and six kids total. Here on my channel I talk about all things homeschool from tots to teens in real life. Today we are talking about the myth that homeschoolers secretly want to go to public school To say that homeschoolers secretly want to be in public school you would have to also consider that public school children secretly want to be homeschooled Are there days when a homeschooled child would rather be in public school? Sure. There are also days that a child dreams of being an only child, being emancipated, being adopted by daddy war bucks… If a child has a deep desire one way or the other it has been my experience that parents explore the options and make a decision they believe is best for their child. I didn’t decide to homeschool my child because i just thought it would be neat. I made an informed decision based on research and discussions with my child. Does that mean I let my child make this decision? No. I talked to him about the experiences he was having while enrolled in public school and took that into consideration in my decision. This myth that all homeschool children are sitting at home begging their parents to be enrolled in public school is just silly. After enjoying the freedom of homeschool majority of children would NEVER want to public education. A lot of individuals have begun working remotely these last couple of years. Professions that once required driving to an office, complying with a dress code, etc have now moved to home offices. I think it would be fair to say that some of these individuals working from home would like to be back in the office, and that some of these people working from home enjoy being able to sit in their home offices and work from the comfort of their home. Not all homeschool kids long to be enrolled in public school. It is possible that children are intelligent enough to understand that a public government one size fits all education may not actually be suitable for everyone. Homeschoolers are Antisocial /Homeschool Myths / Homeschool Myths Debunked / Homeschool Misconceptions / Homeschool Myth Welcome Back! Here on my channel I talk about all things homeschool from tots to teens in real life, because God didn’t make me Pinterest perfect. I don’t even pretend to be. This video is part of a summer series I am running here on my channel. Debunking homeschool myths / homeschool myths debunked / homeschool misconceptions / homeschool myths / homeschool myths vs reality Today we are talking about the myth that homeschoolers are not well socialized. Oh boy, buckle up it’s about to get bumpy. Where does the idea of this myth even come from? My assumption is that it stems from the idea that homeschoolers are always at home and when children are in public school they are surrounded by kids their age. Homeschoolers are Not always at home. In fact i think its safe to say homeschool moms log a lot more miles with their children in the car than public school moms. Is public school socialization the best option? I believe some people still have this idea that homeschooling looks like sitting in a log cabin in the woods cut off from the rest of the world and only having the ability to converse with your immediate family members. This is not real life- it is only my fantasy world. In reality homeschooling looks a lot like going out and living life with your children. Imagine spending all of your time with your children and taking them everywhere you go. This means they would have daily interactions with people of all ages, races, backgrounds, industries…you see what i mean. “But what about making real friendships?” Not only do homeschool children have actual friends but they get to spend a lot of time playing with them. Arguably more time than they would in public school. Don’t you remember that phrase every teacher loved? “We are not here to socialize we are here to learn.” So recess, lunch, and passing periods…those are socialization times… got it… I wont argue the fact that children in public schools are surrounded by anywhere from twenty to thirty children their own age all day long. Just picture your typical classroom. Is this sort of set up the way socialization should be? “Here is a group of people that are your same age. These are the people you can pick from to be your friends. You will go through twelve years of indoctrination - i mean education- with this group of people. Their opinion of you will matter more to you than your opinion of yourself. You will log more hours around them durning the day than your own family. Choose, but choose wisely…” Not all children are social butterflies. What about the kids who like to work alone, or are overwhelmed by social situations, what about the kids who would rather read a book than look up silly memes online. Those kids are immediately labeled as “weird” or stuck up. The long and the short of it is simple. Homeschool kids do have social lives. They may not be the sort of social life you incision in your head for a typical child, but they do have as much or as little of a social life as they would like. Can Homeschoolers Go To College? /Homeschool Myths / Homeschool Myths Debunked / Homeschool Misconceptions / Homeschool Myth Welcome Back! Here on my channel I talk about all things homeschool from tots to teens in real life, because God didn’t make me Pinterest perfect. I don’t even pretend to be. This video is part of a summer series I am running here on my channel. Debunking homeschool myths / homeschool myths debunked / homeschool misconceptions / homeschool myths / homeschool myths vs reality Today we are talking about the myth that homeschoolers will have a harder time getting into college than public school children. The idea that it will be harder for homeschooled children to get into college than public school children is one that I think scares a lot of people away from homeschooling. Or they will homeschool up until 9th grade and then opt to send their children to highschool so they will have the best opportunity for college. Now this is a total myth. If you have a highschool age child that wants to continue onto college they absolutely can. They do not need to take a GED or receive a general education diploma. You will need to provide transcripts to the college they would like to attend. You can do this by either using an accredited online program for homeschool that keeps transcripts for you-or you can do it yourself. I can do a separate video on highschool transcripts for homeschoolers if you would like let me know in the comments down below. Often times homeschool educated children have more extensive transcripts than public school educated children. This is simply because they have more opportunities and more time for additional areas of study. Not only can homeschool educated children attend college they can often enroll in college while they are still in highschool. This is called dual enrollment. They will receive highschool credit and college credit for theses classes. Remember how annoying it was to take English comp 101 again after having done it in highschool? Duel enrolled homeschoolers will do this once and it will count for highschool and college. Your home educated high schooler can graduate early, and complete college classes ahead of schedule. Can homeschool kids go to college? YES! Debunking homeschool myths / homeschool myths debunked / homeschool misconceptions / homeschool myths / homeschool myths vs reality Today is not necessarily a myth but a definite irritation that falls into the myth that homeschool children dont actually learn anthing. When someone asks a child, “what did you learn today?” and that child responds with “nothing” its almost comical from a public school child but when a homeschool child responds the same way its alarming. Children know when you are actually interested in what they’re learning and when youre just fishing to see if they’re learning. Maybe not on a deep level but they can tell the difference between someone who is actually asking to have a conversation about it and someone who is just participating in some sort of small talk. Ask any child, public school charter school homeschool what htey learned that day and they’re not going to sit and gabb your ear off unless you are actuallty interested. Stop asking children what they have learned that day as if that is going to be the proof you need to see that they are actually learning. If you want to see a child learn-teach them something. Show some actual interest in what children are learning. Rephrase your question. Instead of What did you learn today, ask What was the most exciting part of your day? What surprised you today? What was the most boring part of your day? These questions are open eneded and leave room for you to ask more questions. I encourage you to sit down with the next homeschool child you meet and show a true interest in what they are interested in and you will be shocked at how much they know-and how much you can learn from them. Today this video is all about teaching your children to write. Writing is one of those things that is just a daunting task for children. It requires sitting still it requires focus and attention, it requires handwriting, it requires research… My children struggle to sit down and write a paper so I decided instead of writing a paper we were going to do presentations. Three-point presentations. Ironically in these presentations you need to cite your sources you need to write out an outline you need to research your topic and you need to be able to explain yourself clearly for somebody else to understand. As a bonus this also includes public speaking. Public speaking in this case might be in front of grandma and grandpa or mom and dad either way being able to Speak clearly and convey your opinion on a topic is a huge huge huge bonus. You have to do everything that you need to do to write a paper in order to give a presentation and presentations are more fun it requires drying on a drawing board it requires standing up and being presentable and it’s not just sitting in a chair writing endlessly on a piece of paper. Today is a short snippet video of a little of what it looks like for us to homeschool on the weekends. Homeschool on the weekends? Am I crazy? Well I don’t know if I’m totally crazy but I’m not normal. Yes. We are homeschooling on a Saturday. Why in the world are we home schooling on Saturday? Why not? Some people say we should just relax and enjoy our weekend, our life is pretty much run like a weekend. If we wanna go to a museum a park do some impromptu nature study go out and hang out with our friends in the middle of the week we can do that because we homeschool and make our own schedule. If we wanna do school on the weekend for a couple of hours here or there we are more than happy to do that cause honestly everything’s a little Bit crowded on the weekends. We take it vantage of Park space and museums and things of that sort during the week when everything’s a lot less crowded you can take your time you can really enjoy your experience there and when things are more crowded like during the summer or on the weekend we do a little bit more school during that time. Homeschooling on the weekend is not weird to us. It’s probably very weird to a lot of other people homeschooling on the weekends is not for everybody but homeschooling on the weekend works for us. In todays short clip I’m showing you how I prep for dad to take over the homeschool day. There are days that I need to take care of appointments or other obligations. On these days homeschool must go on. It’s easier for my husband to jump into my place if I have a checklist so the kids know exactly what in expected of them. When the kids know what is expected of them they can’t claim “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do” I have no doubt my husband can handle homeschool, but removing any chance for the kids to pretend they have never done this before helps a lot. When dad homeschools I know things are going smoothly.
