When we get exposed to a toxin via our airway or gastrointestinal tract, tiny nerve endings activate to inform the vagus nerve that a toxin/intruder has got in. This initiates an elimination cascade that results in returning us to homeostasis, but what are these nerve endings? What if these nerves are damaged?
