Official Rub a Dub Tuesdays ft Ricky Trooper and Friends Live In Jamaica 2024
Official Rub a Dub Tuesdays ft Ricky Trooper and Friends Live In Jamaica 2024
Born in a small district in St. Mary, named Mount Regale on a Saturday morning, Trooper came into the world hearing a sound system playing from the night before because the house he was delivered in was in a dancehall. He grew up seeing a lot of sounds coming and going out of his birthplace and that's where the love for the sound systems kicked in. As a child he used to make speaker boxes and amps out of mud and soap boxes and kept imaginary dances with the kids in his birthplace. He then moved to Spanish Town where he was then exposed to a lot of different sound systems playing in front of his home once again. The sound system bug was biting him again.
He linked up with a famous sound owner by the name of Copey who had a sound by the name of Coptic Hi-power, at the tender age of 8 years old and that's where he began to learn the art of one of Jamaica's biggest musical culture known as the sound system. That was going to let him be famous all over the world. He was taught every trick in the sound world by Copey the prof and that's where he learned to play studio one music and the art of selecting for a packed dance of patrons as a kid going to primary school. His mother used to take him to the dances sometime and wait until he finished work she took him home. She is still supportive of his two talents he moulded from he was young child. A selector and a snare drummer in a drum corp he helped formed that goes by the name of the Magnificent Troopers where Trooper got the famous name.
He then moved on and started to dj on diffrent sound sytems and his selecting skills were forgotten for a couple of years because Trooper became a full pledged dj with Creation Rock Tower with Papa San, Bunny General, Lecturer and the late Dirtsman.
He then moved to Killamanjaro as a dj with the likes of Ninjaman etc and that was when again is selecting skills came back into play. And after that history in the sound world was written again. Trooper killed the most sounds, won the most trophies, played in the biggest dances to date eg Killamanjaro & Addies the biggest clash in history. He made a lot of artist famous like Sizzla, Luciano, Anthony B, Garnet Silk, Beeniman etc.
He started Sound Trooper in the year 2000 and history was written again because Trooper once again put a next sound on the road that gain worldwide recognition in no time so the struggle is still on.

Caveman International Sound System Interview
Official Reggae History: Caveman International Exclusive Interview Live in Jamaica 🇯🇲 2024
The sound system known as Caveman International started out in Nannyville, an inner-city community, located in East Kingston Jamaica West Indies. The sound started from humble beginnings with the original name, Caveman sound Shaper.
Caveman ‘The Brave One’ International, formally known as Caveman Sound System ystem Shaper was founded in the year 1975, by Sir Stainton Moore. At that time of the launching of Caveman Sound, it’s founder was employed at a record store owned by his cousin, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. This record shop was located at 36 Charles Street, Kingston. His sons, ‘Dr. Cave’ Moore, and Anthony ‘Lion Man’ Moore began managing the sound professionally in 1980. Caveman Sound played at dance sessions in and around their community gaining much recognition. Soon after it’s debut, Caveman Sound got it’s first major out of town dance session in Highgate, located Saint Mary. From that day onwards, there has been no looking back for the sound and it’s crew.
Caveman sound rose to become one of Jamaica’s most sought after, Dancehall ‘Rub A Dub’ sound, featuring live artistes, the likes of Nardo Ranks, Tumpa Lion, Chicken Hawk, Steve Machete, John Junior, Hero Ranks and Donavan Champion. These were just some of the many dancehall artistes who made up the team of artistes Caveman sound had employed to tour the Island of Jamaica, thus gaining the sound it’s popularity locally.
Around 1991, the phenomenon known as dancehall juggling began. This new form of dancehall entertainment took the dancehall to another level, making the need to have live artistes performance in the dancehall less required. This actually means, artists were no longer required to physically travel around with the sound systems to gain recognition, as dub specials quickly replaced that aspect of the dancehall. With sound systems now playing bud plates specials done by the artistes, in which the artistes would ‘big up’ the sound, and the sound letting the artist voice be heard. This then led to artistes appearing in dancehall sessions as special guest.
In 1992, a new selector named ‘Pirahna joined the Caveman team, at which point sound-clashing began. Caveman has had the privilege of clashing with sound system, the likes of Metromedia, Kilomanjaro, Black Scorpio, Down Beat and Katarac Sound as a few named ones.
In 1993, Steve ‘Iniman’ Burgher joined the team as an older selector. This addition to the team opened new doors for the sound and it’s team. Iniman, helped the sound to gain well coveted venues such as Skate Land in Half Way Tree, where Caveman would play every Sunday night, to a sold-out venue. Caveman stayed booked-out for all holiday’s sessions.
With the addition of Iniman, and Percival Clarke, aka ‘Jah P’ a good friend of the Caveman family, who had now became a member of the road management team. Caveman became a formidable force to be reckoned with in the dancehall circuit.
Being a member of the dancehall fraternity was good for, soon came up with the notion, if their sound could be out playing music of these artist, he could also be producing some of these artist. So he started his very own recording studio in Nannyville. He soon moved his recording studio to 2B Grove Road. Now things were looking up, and to make the most of what They had and to best poise themselves for success, the studio equipment was the actual the sound system. They got a lot of jeering for it initially but it sure worked out in the not so long run. Soon after moving to Grove Road, Piranha left the team but Iniman remained and became the A1 selector for caveman sound system.
Having settled down at Grove Rd.
The Caveman family instituted a musical program which sought to groom aspiring artists. So they hosted weekly stage shows for the display of talents called, ‘Culture Shock’. Back-line equipments for the event was loaned to them by the 809 Band. Reggae icon, Bunny Wailer who used to be at the Grove Road Head Quarters, Donated a stage for the stage show. Another icon in the industry, Mr. Homar Harris was the man responsible for grooming artistes out of the camp.
Artiste such as sizzla and Mikey general. Dr. Cave also played an integral part off the grooming process of these and many other artists. While at the Grove Road location representatives from sound systems all over the world including, Europe, Japan, USA, Canada, Africa, and the Caribbean, came through Caveman’s studio all wanting specials and jingles for their sound systems.

Official Reggae Live Performance: Capleton at BRT Weekend Jamaica 2024
Official Reggae Live Performance: Capleton at BRT Weekend Jamaica 2024
Along with Buju Banton and Sizzla, Capleton spearheaded dancehall's return to reggae tradition, tackling Rastafarian spiritual themes and using classic roots reggae as a musical foundation. Capleton was born Clifton George Bailey III on April 13, 1967, in the rural town of Islington, in Jamaica's St. Mary parish. Capleton's namesake was a prominent local lawyer, and young Clifton earned that nickname as a verbally gifted youth with a similar talent for logical argument. He also loved music, counting both Bob Marley & the Wailers and dancehall DJ Papa San as early favorites, and sneaking into sound system shows at age 12. At 18, he moved to Kingston in hopes of starting a music career, and performed with several small sound systems before catching on with Stewart Brown's African Star, a combination sound system and label with connections in both Jamaica and Toronto. Visiting the latter in 1989, Capleton shared a concert bill with the hugely popular Ninjaman, and impressed enough that he was offered the chance to record with major producer Philip "Fatis" Burrell upon his return to Jamaica.
Capleton's first single was the risqué "Bumbo Red," which was banned from Jamaican radio for its sexually explicit lyrics, but became a huge word-of-mouth hit. He made a well-received appearance at the 1990 Reggae Sunsplash Festival, and issued a series of popular -- and often slack -- singles for various producers, the biggest of which were "Number One Pon the Look Good Chart" and "Lotion Man." The 1991 LP Capleton Gold gathered some of these early recordings, and he also appeared on several split albums, the most notable of which was 1992's Double Trouble, shared with General Levy. By 1992, a distinct cultural consciousness was becoming apparent in Capleton's work, starting with the landmark hit single "Alms House." An album of the same name was issued in 1993, collecting further singles in the same vein like "Matie a Dead," "Unnu No Hear," and "Make Hay," among others.
During this era, Capleton was truly coming into his own; still recording prolifically in 1993, he scored several signature hits with "Everybody Needs Somebody," "Cold Blooded Murderer," and "Buggering." Those tracks all appeared on the 1994 album Good So. By that point, Capleton's conversion to Rastafarianism was complete and now dominated his music to a greater degree than ever before. His success also earned him a shot with an American major label, Def Jam, for which he debuted with the album Prophecy in 1995. Hip-hop remixes of "Tour" and "Wings in the Morning" (the latter of which featured a guest spot from Method Man) made Capleton a significant crossover success on the rap and dance singles charts, and Prophecy sold quite respectably in the U.S. Def Jam also issued the follow-up album, 1997's I Testament, which continued in a similar vein: R&B accessibility fused with Rastafarian militancy.
Capleton subsequently returned his focus to the Jamaican market, and although his music was now rootsier than ever, he began to temper his Rasta obsessions with more romantic lyrics. 1999's One Mission gathered some of his work, but a better chronicle of his highly consistent output over 1999-2000 was More Fire, which contained all of his biggest hits of the period: the rootsy-sounding "Who Dem?," the antiviolence anthem "Jah Jah City," the female-positive "Good in Her Clothes." 2002's Still Blazin' gathered much of his best work from the next two years.

Official Reggae Live Performance: Sizzla Kalonji at BRT Weekend Jamaica 2024
Official Reggae Live Performance: Sizzla Kalonji at BRT Weekend Jamaica 2024
Born Miguel Collins on April 17, 1976 in the Scotts Hall community in St Mary, Jamaica, Sizzla Kalonji knew from an early age that he would become someone great. Raised in the community of August Town, St. Catherine to devout Rastafarian parents, it was instilled in him that education is a very important asset. During his early schooling years, Sizzla developed a love for music, and excelled at writing. Thanks to his Father, he also found a love for Mechanical Engineering in High School, and would pursue studies in the field. While he was focusing on his studies, music soon became a part of his curriculum. Under the guidance of Homer Harris, Sizzla would pursue a music career under the moniker “Sizzla”, which was given to him by Harris as he would express a passion for burning the fire musically, and he enjoyed hot sip. He would develop his skillset through Homer Harris, and in the process, landed his first gig with the Caveman Hi-Fi Sound system.
Sizzla recorded his first single for the Zagalou label in 1995, and it sparked a conversation about him between Mr Harris, and Musician Dean Fraser. Sizzla would later be introduced to Producer Philip “Fatis” Burrell, who gave him his official break in music. Shortly after Sizzla’s break, fellow Artist and longtime friend Louie Culture took Sizzla to meet with Producer Bobby “Digital” Dixon, and Recording Artist Luciano. These series of events eventually lead to extensive touring with Luciano, later earning Sizzla critical acclaim.
When Sizzla connected with Philip “Fatis” Burrell, it marked the beginning of Sizzla’s rise. Armed with sharp lyrics, an ear for great sounds, and his dedication to the Rastafarian faith, Sizzla quickly became a hot commodity in Jamaica’s music scene, and a name to know around the world. With a string of successful singles, Sizzla put his best foot forward with the release of his debut album, “Burning Up”, which was done in collaboration with Phillip “Fatis” Burrell. His sophomore album, “Black Woman & Child”, which was a collaboration with Bobby “Digital” Dixon, proved that he was built to make classics. His 3rd album, “Praise Ye Jah” showcased his staying power, and was a small taste of his impeccable work ethic that would follow for years to come.
Now with a career spanning a few years that came with critically acclaimed albums and singles, accolades, and a fanbase that grew exponentially every year, Sizzla found even more success in the 2000s. Thanks to his 2003 album, “Da Real Thing”, he crossed over to the American market, joining a list of Caribbean Artists who have successfully performed the feat. With a presence in the US, Sizzla collaborated with a few prominent acts over the years, became affiliated with Record Exec. Dame Dash, and continued to bring his content to new territories. Sizzla Kalonji has close to 100 albums to date, some becoming award winning releases. He has scored numerous collaborations with some of the best in music around the world, and he has been sampled a number of times.
While Sizzla Kalonji paved his own way in music, he has also taken vital philanthropic roles as well. He established the “Judgement Yard” residence and organization in the August Town community, and has been overseeing various projects that promote unity, upliftment of the youth, and community development. The community has been responsible for the decrease in violence in August Town, and was recognized in 2016 for the success of the “Zero Murders Campaign”.Sizzla has also established the “Sizzla Youth Foundation”, a community based non profit organization that assists in feeding, educating, and creating a safe space for the youth in Jamaica, and around the world. Sizzla Kalonji has also established the “August Town Bicycle Club” and “Crank Up Bikers” initiatives in efforts to enhance the creativity, and introduce new skills to the youth in the August Town community, and surrounding areas.
Sizzla Kalonji is still an active Recording Artist, Producer, Philanthropist, Community Leader, and global Ambassador. Sizzla is currently working on new music, and is embarking on various projects to further build the August Town community.

Official Reggae Live Performance: Sanchez D at BRT Weekend Jamaica 2024
Official Reggae Live Performance: Sanchez D at BRT Weekend Jamaica 2024
Sanchez D is one of the all time favorite singer/performer who transforms his audience into a mass choir at his live performances. He epitomizes elegance and style and is always splendidly attired in a formal suit, enhanced with gold chains and bracelets, giving fans the ultimate in appearance and presentation.
His selection of songs range from soulful R&B to hardcore Dancehall, Reggae, balanced with religiously calming cuts that enhance the spiritual vibes of his act.
Entertainment writer, Howard Hendricks, describes Sanchez’s voice as "a supernatural gift from a loving God that can out sing any Nightingale, and he possesses one of the sweetest male voices in popular music".
At a recent concert at the Hard Rock Cafe, Disney World in Orlando, Florida, Sanchez hit the stage dapper-style, in white shoes, a white three-piece suit and white felt hat. His impeccable performance matched his immaculate attire.. The consummate lovers’ rock exponent, whose fan base is predominantly female, tore down the place, while he was entertaining a full house. That is indeed the norm for this singer who says "I love music to the max." Sanchez's strong church background is evident in his delivery of the song 'Amazing Grace'
Sanchez on stage at the Cross Road night club, Washington
Born on November 30, 1964 in Kingston, Jamaica and christened Kevin Anthony Jackson, Sanchez grew up with his Mother, Father, two brothers and two sisters, in the Stony Hill and Waterford Communities under strong Christian
principles. He says, "I had to go to church every Sunday and often during the week as well. I was a member of the Rehoboth Apostolic Church junior choir and later the senior choir where I was the lead singer.
I just love singing and going to church. However, when I started to attend St. Andrew Technical High School, I started hanging out with a new set of friends, things began to change and we would go to parties where sound systems like Rambo, Small Ax and Crystal would play. I really began to like the music and went through a period of conflict which later resulted in me drifting from the church."
The former choir leader became a selector for the Rambo Sound system; a system on which many of his close DJ colleagues such as Flourigan, Lizard and Red Dragon also worked out. (By this time, he had been renamed Sanchez by his friends. and soccer team mates because of a highly skilled pass he made that was reminiscent of the great Brazilian soccer star Hugo Sanchez). As he gradually moved on to singing at these parties/sessions, the response he received was encouraging.
Sanchez soon began voicing for some of the top record producers in the business: Red Man, Winston Riley and Fattis Burrell. In 1987, Sanchez’s first single "Lady In Red" was released; soaring to the # 19 slot on JBC Radio record chart and that was very encouraging for young Sanchez. "It was a great feeling to hear my song playing on the radio."
Receiving the South Florida 1999 Reggae-Soca Award for best gospel song. "Amazing Grace"
His first hit, the Winston Riley produced, 'Loneliness,' recorded in 1988, is still one of his biggest hits. In that same year, he was voted Singer of the Year, Best Up and Coming and Best New Artist by Rockers and Bins awards respectively. 'Loneliness' was also voted Song of the Year, and this led him to his first appearance at Reggae Sunsplash.
Since Loneliness, Sanchez has scored with big hits such as, "Wild Sanchez", "Love Mi Lover Bad"(a combination with DJ Florigan), "Fall In Love," "If I Ever Fall In Love Again," "Pretty Girl," "One In A Million," "Hello," 'Amazing Grace,' and "Frenzy.” Frenzy won for Sanchez the 2002 songwriter of the year award from The Martin International Awards.
Sanchez most recent achievements are: An Award from Authentic Real Music in recognition of Sanchez's 20th year in Reggae Music. Award from Sanchez's UK Fan Club, for being an excelent Reggae ambassador to the world. A Crest of the Township of Harrow, City of London, presented by the Mayor. Receving a Proclamation and the keys to the city of Hartford, Connecticut, March 5th 2004. Presented by Jamaican born Vice Mayor Veronica Aird-Wilson, on behalf of the Mayor Hon. Eddie Perez. On the birthday of Haile Selassie, Mackabee Studio International made its first outing as a sound system on July 23rd, 1981 with a box van loaded with equipment: 16 Bass Speakers; Mid-Range and Tweeter Boxes and Transistor Amplifiers.
The statistics speak for them themselves. Having played in nearly every city or town in England and clashed against numerous prolific sound systems.
Mackabee is rightfully listed and recognised on the official Sound System map of England. It is also one of the few sounds in the UK to have played out at dances, consistently across 4 decades.

Lloyd Coxsone - Highlights ICON Sound Systems [Black History Month 2023]
Lloyd Coxsone - Highlights ICON Sound Systems [Black History Month 2023]
Lloyd Coxsone is an influential figure in the growth of the UK reggae scene, Lloyd Coxsone left his home in Morant Bay, Jamaica, and arrived in the UK in 1962, settling in south-west London and setting up his first sound system, Lloyd The Matador. This venture floundered due to inexperience and Coxsone joined the UK-based Duke Reid sound, but he eventually left in 1969, taking some of that operation’s personnel with him. He went on to form his own sound system, adopting the name of the biggest sound in Jamaica at the time, and also, pointedly, the main rival to Jamaica’s Duke Reid, Sir Coxsone. Coxsone sound soon gained a strong following that eventually led to his residency at the famous London nightclub the Roaring Twenties, in Carnaby Street. Throughout the 70s Sir Coxsone Sound’s success lay with maintaining the sound to rigorous standards, playing the most exclusive dub plates direct from Jamaica, and keeping abreast of trends within the music. Rather than specializing in one particular style, Coxsone Sound offered music for all tastes.
Coxsone, like other sound men, also expanded into the record business, licensing music from Jamaica at first, then trying his hand at his own productions using local UK artists. In 1975 he enjoyed huge success, and kickstarted the UK lovers rock phenomenon in the process, with his production of ‘Caught You In A Lie’ - originally a US soul hit by Robert Parker - featuring the vocal talents of 14-year-old south London schoolgirl Louisa Mark. That same year he issued one of the best dub albums of the era, King Of The Dub Rock, which featured dubwise versions of his own productions and those of Gussie Clarke, mixed in part at King Tubby’s. Other notable records appeared on his Tribesman and Lloyd Coxsone Outernational labels and elsewhere during the late 70s and early 80s, including Fabian’s Jack Ruby -produced ‘Prophecy’, ‘Love And Only Love’ and ‘Voice Of The Poor’ by Fred Locks. Others included ‘Stormy Night’ and ‘Homeward Bound’ by the Creation Steppers, a version of the Commodores’ ‘Easy’ by Jimmy Lindsay (many of which are available on 12 The Hard Way) and many more. During the mid-80s Coxsone handed control of his sound over to the younger elements in his team, notably Blacker Dread, and a new breed of DJs. Blacker released his own productions by the likes of Fred Locks, Frankie Paul, Mikey General, Sugar Minott, Michael Palmer, Don Carlos, Earl Sixteen and Coxsone DJ, Jah Screechy. Recently, as interest in the roots music of the 70s has increased, Coxsone has emerged from his semi-retirement to stand again at the controls of his sound.

Official Notting Hill Carnival King Tubby's Sound System Highlights Live 2023
Official Notting Hill Carnival King Tubby's Sound System Highlights Live 2023
Cecil Rennie AKA King Tubby’s, was born in the parish of St Thomas,, Jamaica.
He came to England as a teenager in 1965. His love of music wasn’t left behind in Jamaica; it developed in England to become a lifelong passion.
Cecil started his quest to be a leading soundman by serving his apprenticeship as a dedicated follower/selector of Duke Reid Sound System, This association lasted until 1969.
In March 1970 King Tubby’s hi-fi was born making Cecil at the age of 19, one of the youngest sound system owners in the UK.
The name was styled after the legendary Dub Master from Jamaica, Osbourne Ruddock AKA King Tubby’s who Cecil saw as his inspiration and mentor in Reggae Music. This friendship and close working relationship remained right up to the day of Osbourne’s untimely death in 1989. King Tubby’s hi-fi became King Tubby’s Sound System and went from strength to strength.
In 1973 introducing dubplate specials on sound systems, King Tubby’s led the way.
The Sound’s reputation grew and from playing locally in the Brixton area, soon there was not a venue in the UK King Tubby’s had not played at. King Tubby’s caught the imagination of reggae music lovers everywhere and the dances were always packed.
King Tubby’s Sound System has been hailed as one of the if not the most consistent sounds over the last four decades. The consistency and success is down to how the sound is run. Everybody in the sound is considered equal and everybody’s role is important.
The years of hard grafting in London, England and Europe have paid off as Cecil, aka King Tubby's took home the crown of No.1 London sound system in 2003.

Official Boomtown Festival Beenie Man Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Beenie Man Live 2023
One of Jamaica's biggest exports, Beenie Man's recording career stretches back to 1981, although it was in the sound systems where he later made his mark. The witty toaster began his true ascent to stardom in the early '90s, and by 1994, his reputation couldn't be beaten. Beenie Man was born Moses Davis in the tough Waterhouse district of Kingston, Jamaica, on August 22, 1973. By the time he was ready for school, the toddler had already decided on a career as a DJ. He wasn't the first tot with dreams of the limelight, but Beenie actually had a true gift for gab. His shot at stardom came when he was only eight when he took first prize at the national Teeny Talent contest. This led to a meeting with producer Junjo Lawes, who recorded the diminutive DJ's debut single, "Too Fancy." Bunny Lee then took the boy under his wing and put him to work at his Unlimited sound system.
Junjo Presents Two Big Sound
By 1983, the youngster found himself appearing on Lawes' Junjo Presents Two Big Sound, which was recorded live and featured such DJ heavyweights as Dillinger and Fathead. Along with Unlimited, Beenie was also DJ'ing at Prince Jammy's Volcano sound system, had a hit single to his credit, "Over the Sea," produced by Niney Holness, and even had a debut album out. Produced by Lee, The Invincible Beenie Man, the 10-Year-Old DJ Wonder's title pretty much summed it all up. He recorded some songs with Barrington Levy in 1984, two of which, "Under Mi Sensi" and "Two Sounds," would resurface in remixed form later in the '90s. But for the moment, his recording career came virtually to a close, bar the occasional single. But the young DJ remained a sound system favourite, even as he now turned his attention to his schoolwork.
Guns Out
Not surprisingly, Beenie's younger brother, Little Kirk, was keen to follow in his footsteps, and five years later the siblings hooked up with producer Patrick Roberts and began recording a series of singles that quickly brought them into the national spotlight. In 1992, Beenie appeared at Reggae Sunsplash and such was the response that the DJ now felt ready to take on the big guns. Beenie's first target was the acclaimed Bounty Killer, although the young DJ had cause for his attack as the veteran had stolen his catchphrase, "people dead," and the war was on. There was a lull in the very public battle in 1993 when Beenie left Kingston for almost a year after being booed off the stage at a national show celebrating the visit of Nelson Mandela. Upon his return the next year, there was a public reconciliation with Bounty Killer, which resulted in the split album Guns Out.
Beenie had a major change of heart, further evidenced by his single "No Mama No Cry," a version of Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry," a scathing indictment of violence, inspired by the murder of fellow DJ Pan Head. The song topped the Jamaican chart and brought the DJ instant acclaim. Pan Head's murder would go unsolved, adding to Beenie's emotional devastation, with additional contemporaries lost to violence later that year. Beenie was affected by these events and Sly & Robbie, the producers of his "No Mama No Cry" single, were instrumental in guiding the young DJ toward his conversion to Rastafarianism.
A new attitude and a hit single instantly turned Beenie's career around. Now working with all the island's top producers, the DJ recorded a slew of songs, many of them religiously themed, including "Praise Him" and "World Dance" (which took the Best Single Award at the Jamaican Music Awards). The hits-heavy Defend It and Dis Unu Fi Hear were both released in 1994 and combined more culturally themed raps with a hardcore dancehall sound. Many of these singles, bar the Taxi releases, were rounded up on Gold by the British Charm label. Beenie's stardom was confirmed by his taking the DJ of the Year Award that same year. Signing to Island Records, Beenie released the seminal Blessed album, which featured another clutch of hits, including the dancehall smash "Slam."

Official Boomtown Festival Queen Omega Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Queen Omega Live 2023
Jean Osbourne, 31 August 1981, Trinidad, West Indies. In her early schooldays, Queen Omega initially performed calypso at various talent contests, but in her teenage years, she began providing backing vocals for a number of Trinidad’s leading soca stars. Her debut as a soloist was a dancehall soca fusion, ‘Fire’, which was followed by the Rastafarian-influenced ‘Babylon Bus’. While Trinidad is celebrated for carnival, calypso and soca the island’s younger generation embraced the music of Jamaica. The popularity of ragga on the islands resulted in appearances from artists such as Anthony B., Bushman and Determine. The visiting Jamaicans were supported by Queen Omega and her association led to ragga recording sessions with Doctor Marshall who produced ‘Warning’ and ‘Highest High’. The songs were assured hits when the producer overdubbed lyrics from Capleton and Sizzla. The dread DJs accepted her pseudonym Queen Omega as an acknowledgement of her Rastafarian ideals (Omega is described as the Ethiopian woman who was arguably the queen of the world).
In the new millennium, Queen Omega was recorded with Tony Rebel in Jamaica. He produced the uncharacteristic ‘Love Yah’, which was relegated to the b-side of ‘Big It Up Fah’. While on the island she met the indomitable Mickey D who introduced her to Trevor ‘Juggling’ T. who produced her self-titled debut. The release featured contributions from the Ruff Cut Band, Anthony B. and Archie Wonder.

Official Boomtown Festival Barrington Levy Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Barrington Levy Live 2023
One of the great success stories of the '80s, Barrington Levy, arrived on the dancehall scene and swiftly remodelled it in his own image. Although numerous DJs and vocalists would rise and fall during this decade, Levy was one of the few with staying power, and he continued releasing massive hits well into the '90s. Born in 1964 in Clarendon, Jamaica, as a youngster, Barrington Levy formed the Mighty Multitude with his cousin Everton Dacres. They started off playing the sound systems and cut their first single, "My Black Girl," in 1977. All of 14, Levy broke out on his own the next year and recorded his debut solo single, "A Long Time Since We Don't Have No Love." It didn't have much of an impact, however, the teen's appearances in the dancehalls were eagerly awaited events. It was at one of these that Levy met former singer-turned-producer Junjo Lawes and New York-based producer Hyman "Jah Life" Wright. The pair took the youth into Channel One studio, accompanied by the Roots Radics, and recorded a clutch of cuts. The first fruits of this union were "Ah Yah We Deh," quickly followed by "Looking My Love," "Englishman," and "Wedding Ring Aside." Success was immediate, but it was the mighty "Collie Weed" that really cemented the teen's hold of dancehall. "Shine Eye Girl" was a smash follow-up, and the young Levy was now in great demand. A stream of singles followed, "Wicked Intention," "Jumpy Girl," a lovely version of Horace Andy's "Skylarking," the humorous "Disco Music," "Reggae Music," and "Wicked Intention" included. Levy joined forces with producer Alvin Ranglin for another sting of hits -- "Never Tear My Love Apart," "Jah," "You Made Me So Happy," and "When You're Young and in Love."
Bounty Hunter
Levy's rich vocals were made for duets, both with other vocalists and DJs, and it wasn't long before the young star was also recording collaborative singles. Toyan was a great foil on "Call You on the Phone," he paired with Jah Thomas on "Moonlight Lover" and "Sister Debby," and joined forces with Trinity for "Lose Respect" and a follow-up, "I Need a Girl," in 1980. That same year, Levy made a sensational appearance at Reggae Sunsplash, then returned in 1981. During these early years, the singer seemingly spent all of his time between the recording studios and the dancehalls. Amidst the deluge of singles, four albums arrived as well between 1979 and 1980. First up was Bounty Hunter, which boasted three smash singles -- "Reggae Music," "Shine Eye Girl," and "Looking My Love" -- and a clutch of other tracks that were just about as good. In Britain, the Burning Sounds label released Shine Eye Gal, also a hits-heavy package which included the title-track, "Collie Weed," and "Ah Yah We Deh." It was swiftly followed by the mighty Englishman, an absolutely fabulous record which was overseen by the unbeatable studio grouping of Junjo Lawes and two of King Tubby's protégés -- Scientist and Prince Jammy. Jammy was the veteran of this trio, but Lawes, barely into his twenties, was swift to establish his reputation as one of the island's top producers. Scientist, meanwhile, was still only in his late teens, but already a noted engineer and famed remixer, and Lawes would utilize his talents at every opportunity. The Roots Radics' rhythms would form the basis of Lawes production sound, which was heavily roots-based, but had a toughness that swept across the dancehalls like a machine gun. Roots music itself, though, was losing its grip on the contemporary Jamaican music scene, and the time was ripe -- musically, politically, and culturally -- for a change. People had tired of the more militant rasta-fired visions and were searching for something lighter, but with the immediacy of the dancehalls. Levy provided the perfect answer. A veteran of the clubs, he brought the spontaneity of the DJ to his records, while returning vocals back to the sound system scene which had been purely the realm of the DJs.

Official Boomtown Festival Mr Williamz Live 2023
Official Boomtown Festival Mr Williamz Live 2023
Mr Williamz's first ever live stage performance was at the tender age of 8 on the local sound system in his community, it was a clash (lyrical competition) of which he was crowned winner which inspired him to begin writing lyrics. Returning to London at age 16 he and his younger began setting up a small sound system, recording specials onto tape/cassette and then getting them cut onto steel plates creating their own dubplates.
Emerging onto the reggae scene in 2008 with his debut single "Babylon in Helicopter" (Produced by Necessary Mayhem) which reached No1 in the U.S singles charts, No2 in the German reggae charts and charted No 15 in the German reggae charts the year 2008. This led to Mr Williamz being honoured by the BBC as the UK artist of the year 2008. He has since released follow-up singles such as "No Cigarette" which features on The Biggest Reggae Anthems 2009 (Greensleeves CD). and "Real General" which reached No 1 in Japan's singles charts only weeks after being released, other tracks include "Better Meds" with Tony Curtis & "London" both on the JAM1 riddim and getting good rotation worldwide.
Having toured Central America (Costa Rica - Panama) and many countries in Europe, Mr Williamz is fast proving to be one of the most promising reggae/dancehall artists out of London, U.K
